“A bit average but location is not bad”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Marconi in March 2013 (during Easter) and I chose the hotel as we stayed there 10 years ago and I thought it would be fun to go down memory lane. I booked the room online on the hotel website and on average it was 100€ per night including breakfast but note that you also have to pay a few Euros in tourist or city tax.

Check in was fast and we got room 607. The room was pretty standard upon entry – a dark wooden floor with walls in a two tone yellowish color. The bed had a golden bed spread that look exclusive but the bed itself was a bit on the firm side but still it provided pretty good sleeping comfort. The décor in the room was pretty old school with a lavish bedpost, dark wooden wardrobe and an old desk. The TV was really old school as it was not a flat screen but an old tube TV. It had quite a few channels but the TV was a bit temperamental and we had some difficulties turning it on and changing channels – and the digital clock on the TV seemed to run too slow when the TV was of! (just as a weird fun fact). There was a small fridge with some soda and drinks in it and a small safe in the wardrobe. We had a decent view from the room but as the last time we also had a view to the church bell tower and that means that you can also hear the bells toll.

The bathroom was tiled in a reddish marble finish and contained a shower corner in addition to the toilet, bide and sink. There were not that many amenities and we just used soap that we brought along. The shower corner looked good to start off with but in use it had some flaws. The water would splash out on the floor which is always annoying and the drain did not seem to be able to keep up with the water that came out of the shower head. It also had a bad functionality for controlling if you wanted the water out of the handheld shower head or the main shower head. There were also signs of wear and tear on other parts of the bathroom – e.g. the toilet seat.

There is some sort of ventilation in the room and I tried to turn down the temperature but the fan stopped. So I think the conclusion is that the room does not have an aircon so if you want the room cooler and want fresh air you need to open a window. The hotel offers free wifi that worked very well – once logged in you stayed logged in and the password worked on several devices.

The walls of the hotel are not very sound proof to say the least and we could easily hear people talking in the neighboring room, taking a shower etc. So I would hate to stay at this hotel and end up in a room next to someone that is having an all-night argument.

Breakfast is just OK – the breakfast room is located on the ground floor and it did not seem to be large enough to handle all the guests. We saw people standing around waiting for a table and the staff was running to keep up with clearing the tables, refilling croissants and juice and to take orders for coffee (all done by two ladies). The breakfast was pretty simple with a bit of bread and croissants, some cereal, some ham, some juice and some fruit.

The location of the hotel is good as it only takes a couple of minutes to walk to Repubblica metro station and it is only 3 stops to Duomo on the M3. You can also walk to Milan central station and that can be convenient if you are catching a train to other cities in the region (it only takes a bit over an hour to get to Parma). There are also lots of restaurants within walking distance.

Conclusion
All in all this is not a bad hotel –the room is pretty standard and the bed gave good sleeping comfort even if it was quite firm. The location is very good as you can easily get around on the subway and it is close to the train station. Breakfast is not very impressive and thin walls could potential lead to annoying situations when trying to get a good night sleep.

More like a 3 star Hotel to me although there's a big lobby but breakfast area is small and counter rundown.
1) Counter staffs - Some are very friendly and helpful, but some are just typical Italian rude and unfriendly. But anyway after travelling 10 years in Italy I didn't really met any friendly hotel staff especially Italian
2) Room is small but clean
3) Breakfast was standard
4) Location is near to Metro station and 10 mins walk from train station
5) Price - consider average during the fair period, although I pay for Euro 300 per day, I got free breakfast and wifi consider that I book only in March and fair was April.

We arrived very late, so I phoned in advance to confirm and the lady at the reception was so lovely over the phone I knew it would be a great stay and it was! Very good-looking entrance, interesting lifts (elevators) and a perfectly fitted room with embroided sheets and a huge rainfall shower that was all spotlessly clean.
We were in 504 on the street side so you can hear the old tram that storms down the street, but it's not very loud unless you're very sensitive to noise and that will mean you will definitely hear people in other rooms and walking in the hallway, but it was rather indistinct and didn't bother us at all.
Breakfast is fantastic as everyone says: fresh orange juice, cakes, pastries, bread, fruit, cheese, ham, eggs and bacon... and again the staff is absolutely lovely serving you tea, coffee, expressos and delicious cappuccino's!
At a stone's throw away from the train station I definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Maybe people who are very sensitive to noise should consider always traveling with earplugs!

The Hotel is Located about 5-10 Minutes walk from the central train station and is very easy to find if you print out the location map. The check in process was very quick and the staff very friendly. We booked a double room which was clean & large, however the matress on the bed was like concrete. Breakfast was very nice with cereals / fruits / and pastries and boiled and scrambled eggs available. The Main shopping area is about a 15mins walk from the hotel. Overall I Would book this hotel again if I returned to Milan

I would have given a better rate to this hotel if there was not a serious problem with the sound isolation. There is no isolation between the rooms. We heard basically everything from the other rooms, even those which were not directly neighbouring ours: guests entering and leaving their rooms, taking a shower, using the toilet, watching tv (was very loud because no sound limit on tv), talking to each other, etc. Annoying especially when occuring late in the evening when guests come back from being out. There is also no isolation between the corridor and the room itself: hear people taking, chambermaids banging doors in the morning. The hotel seems to have been renovated a few years ago but the rooms are already starting to be detoriated. Positive: sheets changed every day, breakfast acceptable, receptionists profesionnal. Would give a 3 star rating.

We came by the Marconi after spending two terrible days in another hotel (amedeus hotel) we had once stopped in the andreola so contacted them they had no space so advised here and thank heavens they did our room was beautiful clean warm and staff were so friendly that my children didn't want to leave their sides ?!! Given the other hotel wouldn't even supply a cot the Marconi couldn't do enough for us, the breakfast is fabulous an great choice an anyone suggesting its worth less that four stars then my suggestion is you go stop at a 3 star like the armedeus,,,,, I can't

We will return again this year an if we could have we would have stayed longer, I have nothin but positive things to say about the hotel an their staff And if you have booked here then I envy you xxx FABULOUS HOTEL

The first morning after my arrival in Hotel Marconi about 07.00 a.m. i heard noises for a half hour from the next room . It was an unpleasant experience. During my on-line booking for the room of this hotel i had been asked,if i had a special request .
So, i asked a silent room. When later i submited personally in the reception of Hotel Marconi my displeasure about this event, the receptionist thought , that the origin of
the noises was external ! But i don' t think , that i mentioned something like this.
Besides , my room was located in the back side of this Hotel. So, it was impossible for us ( me and my wife ) to be disturbed from external noises. About the rest i' m
satisfied. The receptionist said , that the reason of this disturbance was the checkout of my ex neighbours.
