“Budget hotel near Central railway station”
Reviewed August 3, 2011

I stayed in this hotel for a few days during my trip around North Italy. It's conveniently located within 5 minutes walk from Stazione Centrale - central railway station of Milan. If you want to save some money use airport bus shuttle (stops at Stazione Centrale) instead of taking taxi.

The undeground station is in metres from the hotel so it is a good start point to explore Milan. If you want to visit cities near by (Genova or Venice), just take an early train as I did without spendig too much time to get to railway station.

The area around is nice and quiet despite close railway station with some selection of restaurants, cafes and McDonalds. Corso Buenos Aires with a lot of shopping facilities is just 10 min walk.

The room I stayed in was a single, small but clean and enough for overnights. I didn't book breakfast so I can't say about the quality or variety of the food.

The hotel is good for short stays in Milan for solo travellers, couples or business.

We just had a stopover in Milan while traveling. Since we just needed a room, price was important. Hotel Garda was exceptionally convenient to the train station. The room was simple, clean, and cheap. A good choice for those passing thru Milan.

I booked a single room for couple of nights in June. Well…I know that single rooms are normally not high on the hotel managers’ agenda and in most cases they are older, shabbier etc., but this case was particularly sad. Everything looked like it's about to fall apart at any moment.
I did not intend to spend much time in the hotel – that was not my first time in Milan, I stopped there for a couple days of shopping on my way to San Remo, so I just wanted a basic place to throw in my bags in the end of the day, take a shower and sleep.
Can’t say anything bad, I mean , the stuff was helpful, everything worked (even pre-historical air-conditioner was doing its job); the room (eventhough tiny) was more or less clean but still I believe you could find something better even for the same price.
So if it’s your first time in the city and you plan to enjoy it, look for something else.

Well this is a bizarre one. I would recommend the hotel for it's location (right beside central station) and price (very reasonable, especially as they give you a 10% discount if you pay with cash on checkout) - but bear in mind that the decor is slightly dated and it has few amenities. The breakfast buffet is typically european (a few cereals, meat, cheese, boiled eggs and for some reason sweet pies and some pastries), there is a small hotel bar and reception area. The reception staff however were very friendly and spoke good english - they provided plenty of advice and there seemed to be always someone there. There is wifi either paid by 1 or 24 hour period which was very reasonable (5 euro per day). The lifts are old and quite small but there are really nice stairs. I would be concerned about wheelchair accessibility as there are a few steps to get into reception and I am unsure there is a ramp.

We stayed there for a night and my family & extended family stayed for 3-4 nights for a family trip.

We each had slightly different experiences.

There were 3 rooms on the first floor for us
Room1: we were right beside the lift - it was a small functional bright cosy blue double room - the decor was slightly dated but it was clean and I actually quite liked it! The lift was being fixed but was still working and it wasn't noisy until they needed to hammer something into it at around 9am which was fine. The aircon was a little noisy but was very necessary for the weather in Milan! The bathroom was long, narrow and fine - the flusher was unusual (like a tap, needed to be twisted on and off). There was plenty of storage room and a desk which was nice.
Room2: green family room with 3 single beds, one of which was a pull down from the wall bed - this was a great room! - very spacious! and the bathroom was very nice and afforded space for an adult and a kid to be using at same time. There was also a desk and large wardrobe - the whole family managed to squeeze into this room and sit on the beds for chats which was nice.
Room3: the pink double room - we called this the honeymoon suite! it was a large double room - all pink, with a very large desk area! the bathroom was very large - the couple in this room thought it was great!
The last 3 rooms were on the 2nd floor
Room4: blue single room - was large enough to be a double room with a large bathroom - very high ceilings, included desk - it felt quite empty though as it was so large.
Room5: green double room - the couple in this room advised that it was fine - it was the same as the pink double room but a floor above.
Room6: cream double room - this was right beside another elevator but was incredibly noisy from around 6am - the high ceilings were even higher in this room. The bathroom was small. The people in this room had a mosquito there which caused a few issues. The aircon was a unit against the window wall which took a little time to get used to - thermostat is by the door, but the switch for aircon is manual. They still enjoyed their stay none the less.

The room was lovely, the staff was friendly, the shower and bed was nice. AC worked well, which is not always common in Italy. It's really close to the main train station. Parking is non-existent in the area, though. The red line is close as well, but at night traveling to and from the red line can be sketchy--we passed at least 4 prostitutes during our 2 days there not to mention the "massage" parlors in the surrounding blocks. To be fair, the area actually has improved in the past 10 years or so and the hotel really offered good value for Milan. One other note--the "laundry service" mentioned on venere is only a send-out drycleaning, so don't count on it if you're on a long trip and counting on this place for your laundry needs. Overall, we would stay again, but it's hard out there for a pimp :)

Very friendly front desk. Ideally situated for the Central Station, Airport buses and City Tour buses. Cosy lounge and bar. Breakfast OK. Coffee good. Bathroom facilities a bit cramped.

Location was great, it was just across the street from Milano Centrale.

Our triple room was pretty spacious and clean, just that the toilet design was inefficient. See, the shower 'cubicle' was teeny tiny, and the short shower curtain meant that the floor would still be soaked, and every time you move, the curtain adheres to your skin and thereby counteracts your efforts to shower. Small issue, but still frustrating on a daily basis.

The staff was friendly, just as long as you don't get into any room booking problems with them (i.e. number of rooms, forget to check out or extend your stay, etc). Because they'd chuck all your belongings into any random compartment of your luggage and leave the entire thing in their hotel lobby, and later try to offer you a room on a floor that we assume was flooded the days before (there were towels lining the staircase leading down from it!) Everything was just handled poorly.
