“What a great hotel!”
Reviewed August 17, 2014 via mobile

Went with the crowd when booking a weeks holiday in Milan and booked the number 1 hotel. We know that the ratings often reflect taste and how well expectations are matched, so were a little unprepared to find that the fantastic reviews were TRUE!

Fantastic location near to Duomo - one of the worlds most impressive buildings and plazas but still manages to be intimate, peaceful and friendly.

The staff in reception and not least at breakfast were really nice, helpful, smiling and efficient. Very helpful when required and unobtrusive otherwise.

Breakfast was very good - selection and especially quality. Fruit and biscuits always on offer and very good nibbles if you wanted a quiet glass of wine in the bar.

Finally the room....nice design, good bed, fantastic bathroom and kept so well by the staff. Don't know how they managed it when we were in and out at irregular times, but they managed to service the room effectively without us even seeing them.

A great stay. We'll be booking here again. Highly recommended.

Hotel Spadari is in a very convenient location near the main piazza/duomo/gallery vittoria emanuelle and restaurants. The initial feel of the room (room 45) was that it was industrial, with no charm about it at all. But as we unpacked, we realised that it worked quite well, with spaces for your bags and all the things you need to unpack even for just one night. There's an opening window if you like fresh air. The bathroom was quite big but the shower is tiny. I'm petite and still found it very cramped. This is a shame because there is a huge separate bath that takes up more than its fair share of the floor space, so it could have been designed so much better. After a brilliant meal at a 'locals' restaurant called Borromeo recommended by the hotel staff and just a short walk from the hotel, we had a very peaceful sleep with no noise either from the street or in the hotel. Breakfast the next morning was a treat. In a very comfortable, quiet area there was a beautiful buffet with cheeses, prosciutto, fruit, cereals, eggs to order and a good gluten-free selection. Oh, and welcome to Italy, the home of Nutella. The service in the breakfast room, like that at the front desk and all of the staff was impeccable, very friendly, helpful and efficient. So after our initial disappointment we really warmed to this hotel and on our next visit to Milan it will be our choice for sure.

Room Tip: Room 45 was very quiet.

Traveling in Europe comes with some challenges when you have a large family (we have three children). We typically try to find a holiday rental or an Agriturismo but in Milan (within the city center) there aren't many options so a Hotel is typically the best option. Without a doubt, Hotel Spadari is the best option in Milan. The staff are friendly, the rooms are charming, and the service is unlike anything I have experienced in a hotel in Europe. Drinks in the minibar (the non alcoholic options) are free as is breakfast and internet access. The breakfast is more than the typical continental breakfast and also includes freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs and bacon made to order (or ham) and nice selection of pastries, cereals and yogurts.

The hotel is located near Duomo and within walking distance to the Quadrilatero della Moda and Sforzesco Castle. Next door to Hotel Spadari is a gourmet grocery store, Peck, where you can find a great selection of fine Italian wine, cheese, pasta and much more - everything you need for a picnic. There is a 5 Euro charge to drive into the city center but getting to the hotel by car isn't a problem. You simply park your car in front of the hotel and the hotel staff will take care of parking for you. There is a 35 Euro fee per night for parking but the hotel is easily accessible via train/subway.

Without a doubt, my family and I will be back.

Room Tip: Street facing rooms are well lit and have a great view but you will get more street noise if you are...

Where do I begin? All of the staff was amazing, we seemed to interact with Leticia (sp?) the most. She was most helpful with our questions and gave excellent directions. The breakfast with eggs to order was more than sufficient in variety and exceptional in quality. The room on the eighth floor was perfect, the view is worth the extra set of stairs. Our teenage daughters had a room on the third floor which was also a great room. The location was perfect, we will be back for another visit. I honestly don't know what else to add, we WILL be repeat guests.

First time visitors were made very welcome by the staff. Very helpful with suggestions and directions. The breakfasts were just great. Yes, it's bar and restaurant are not much but then you have he whole city to explore. Would go back in a heart beat.

This is our second time at this hotel and would definitely stay again next time we're in Milan. Super friendly, helpful staff. Wonderful breakfasts (they even provided a terrific bagged breakfast the day we needed to leave for the airport at 4:00 AM) and the location can't be beat!
