“Antiquated yet classy and original”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

A must for avid shoppers and tourists who appreciate an original and decadent hotel. I stayed at a suite room and had a wonderful weekend here.

Upon arrival the reception was very welcoming and the decor of the building was a welcome change to the "cut and paste" style of more modern hotels. My room had a very high ceiling which made the room feel more spacious and although the furniture and carpets aren't brand new, it does have rather a homely and warm aura. The hotel is close to all the major shopping streets and tourist sites and the dinner at the "Don Carlos" was of high quality. The only qualm I had was the rather bland choice of breakfast although the espresso was admittedly excellent.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for your kind comment; we are pleased to learn that you appreciated your stay and the welcoming decor of the Grand Hotel et de Milan. Some of the features of our property are willingly kept “vintage” to preserve the nature and family feel of this traditional 18th century milanese mansion which is continuously updated and well maintained to always offer the best to our guests.

Thank you for letting us know that you enjoyed! We hope to have you back with us soon.

Sincerely,

We stayed three nights as part of a high end tour. We asked for a quiet courtyard room based on other reviews here and were given 219. The room was so small we could not open both of our suitcases as the same time. The bathroom was almost as large as the rest of the room. The air conditioning blew on my head all night, a comment I also heard from others on my trip staying in other rooms
The biggest problem occurred when we went to Caruso's for some water and my wife asked if we could have some fruit that was displayed. The waiter told us to take some as it was "complementary" as we were having a drink. When we checked out we were charged for two lunches, and the desk personnel would not make an adjustment when we explained the "complementary" we were told about in the restaurant.
Our trip of northern Italy continued for another 10 days and this was the poorest hotel we used. Certainly not the "Grand Old Lady" we thought we were getting.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the personal judgment received through the site of Tripadvisor.com

We are sorry to learn that the accommodation provided was not quite spacious and comfortable; the Hotel building is very historic and it has preserved features and space configuration of an 18th century Milanese Mansion: as a result , some of our accommodations are in fact of reduced size. Nevertheless most of the Classic category accommodations are larger and we have made a note to provide you, on your future stays with a more spacious accommodation.

We appreciate your comment about the air conditioning; a new system has just been installed in all rooms, which as a result may require some adjustments, as you indicated.

We have also been very sensitive to your comments with regard to the charge of € 24.00 pertaining to the fruit, we believe that there must have been a misunderstanding since the sliced fruits displayed on the buffet as well as the pastries are at an additional cost and are not complimentary with the purchase of a bottle of water. We are deeply sorry if this created a bad feeling.

With our reiterated apologies, we thank you for your understanding, and hope to have the pleasure to welcome you back to the Grand Hotel et de Milan in a not too distant future. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally.

Yours sincerely,

With trams rolling past, La Scala two minutes away, and the via Montenapoleone pretty much on the door you could not ask for much more. The restaurant is a bit disappointing but with with the best of Milanese cuisine all around this is not really a problem

Dear Guest,

I am pleased to learn that you enjoyed the central location of the Grand Hotel et de Milan.

I have also taken good note of your comment relating to the restaurants; while we take pride in being careful to details, we are sorry to learn that we did not succeed in meeting your expectations and in making your gastronomic experience a memorable one. We will certainly endeavour to provide a better quality and service to our restaurants. Please feel free to let us have, if you wish, more information on this subject on occasion of your future trip to Milan, in order to better understand where we need to improve.

We hope to have soon again the pleasure of your return visit; thank you for taking the time to write a review on Trip Advisor as it is very much appreciated.

The Grand Hotel ET de Milan has been my hotel of choice when staying in Milan for years. Incredibly good location, superb historic building, true luxury experience. It is not a modern hotel but for once, it is not a problem. The clientele is very international and is a mix of well-off families and couples, as well as businessmen. The rooms and bathrooms are nice, with a sense of high quality materials and robustness. I particularly like the bar of the Grand Hotel, which perfectly corresponds to what you would expect from a high-end hotel bar. Beware, the hotel can be very expensive during the fashion weeks or the salone.

If you are looking for a historic Hotel in central Milan - look no further! Oozing charm and character this Hotel offers a fabulous location in the centre of Milan. Our room was bright and airy with a sofa bed provided for our daughter. Huge elegant bathroom with all the usual trimmings. All expected of a 5* Hotel. Pleasant breakfast with attentive staff and great coffee!! Unfortunately we were slghtly disappointed that we were not informed prior to making the booking that the bar/lounge room was being refurbished. This room we adore as it is full of glamour and elegance. When questioning this with the reception staff we were simply informed there was still a bar open, albeit not the same bar or room or splendour we had experienced in the past whilst at this Hotel. Staff need to advise clients of any refurbishments occuring within the Hotel prior to the client booking. This Hotel may ooze charm, splendour and history but it is not cheap! All amenities should be available to the guest, or the guest should most definitely be advised prior.

If you are looking for a truely boutique experience with modern amenities look no further. I have stayed here 3 times in the last month and felt compelled to write a reivew. Typically I am a devoted Starwood Hotel "resident" but decided that the opportunity to stay here was worth taking a chance on a independent.

Location is outstanding most major attractions within walking distance along the bricked streets of central Milan; offices are also short taxis away.

Staff are attentive and remembered me the second time. Some of the rooms can be small, with surprisingly large bathrooms (with toiletries from Etro); ask for a top floor room and you will be treated to a small terrace.

The gym was great - felt private in high spec and fit nicely into the hotel overall.

They still use manual keys, with a massive wooden fob (so be sure to leave the key with reception when you come and go).

Overall super service - i stay here every time i am in Milan now.

Room Tip: Ask for something on the top floor!

The Grand Hotel is one of the few Old world Luxury hotels in Milan.Upon Entering you feel the ambience of the real Italian splendor although the Hotel remains warm and the service very personal. The staff is very warm, helpful and after just 1 day the already know your name.We took the regular room facing the courtyard ,the room itself was small and simple but the bathroom was very large and beautiful and well appointed. The breakfast was a bit on the pricey side (35 euros) and when we ordered the breakfast it came so quickly and was very good.We did take breakfast at the Armani Cafe right beside and it was very good and inexpensive.Location was wonderful,Monte napoleone just across ,the scala was on the same street and the Galleria .
Everything was wonderful except the room service for dinner one night, pasta was really a disappointment considering it was a 5 star hotel.Internet is not free and very expensive, such a pity.I would definitely come back and highly recommend the hotel to well travelers with a good budget.

Room Tip: go to the Armani hotel for breakfast it is half the price and just as good!
