After many years of travelling and working in Milan i have at last found the perfect hotel there.
Grand hotel et di Milano is always a pleasure to return to. The staff are wonderful and incredibly attentive and the rooms are charming and very comfortable. It is the perfect small GRAND hotel !

several years ago we discoved the hotel with my husband as we were walking on Via Manzoni. We always used to stay at another 2 popular hotels (again 5 star) but the service we experienced, the great staff always smiling and doing there best to make their guests happy, special ambiance of the hotel which makes you feel living in an old palace, perfect location (max 3 minutes walk to everywhere!) and wonderful rooms which gives you the sensation like you are at home made our minds to stay always at this great hotel. Every year we go to Milano several times and we always stay at this wonderful place.

I also want to mention about their very special ristorante and wonderful bar. The food is really special and the bar is wonderful to enjoy a glass of prosecco!

Congratulations for this success and thank you very much for giving us the pleasure of staying at such special place!

from the moment we arrived the Hotel staff were delightful, they all worked so hard to make our stay one of the most memorable. Our visit was to go to La Scala, and nothing was to much trouble, even to a wonderful meal in there fantastic restaurant after watching Tosca. The room was just fantastic and really recommend this hotel for a stay in Milan, and I am really looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: ask the wonderful staff for advice

The location of hotel is perfect for sightseeing. It is situated on Via Manzoni close to the main Milano touristic and shopping places: just in front of Via Monte Napoleone, 5 min walk to La Scala and Duomo, 10 min to Brera, 5 min to the beautiful public garden and many art galeries and museums.
This is an old style hotel with it's dark wood interiors and old furniture what I personaly don't like. It could be also interesting for those who like old hotel with it's history - just next to my door the were rooms where Rudolf Nureev and Maria Kalaas stayed. The hotel is also famous for that Giuseppe Verdi died here that could be really scary especially at nights.
For me the hotel was good for sleep but not for work because the room was always dark so it was hardly to understand if it is shiny or not outside and it made me feel sleepy. I had a big room with a really king size super comfortable bed - the only thing I really loved there. The other thing I didn't like is that the mini bar and Internet access was about 3 times more expensive than average hotel price.
Also need to say that they have very helpfull, wellcome but not enoying reception and carriers.

Dear Guest,

Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your impressions about the Grand Hotel et de Milan with Tripadvisor.com readers.

We were sorry to learn that your room did not meet your expectations in terms of natural light and have accordingly made a note on your profile to provide you with a much brighter accommodation on the occasion of your future stay with us.

The comments of our guests are of utmost importance and help us to further ameliorate our service. Should you have a few more spare minutes to help us understand where we failed in service at the Reception and carriers we would be most grateful.

Internet service, is provided by “Swisscom” which assures for privacy and safety in transactions; unfortunately we have little to none power on their internet fees.

Hoping that you will not hold this past experience against us, we will be very honored if you would give us the opportunity to welcome you again in a near future.

Yours sincerely,

This was my third time in Milan and I can truly recomend this hotel. It was wonderful in every way. The location was perfect: shopping, La Scala and Duomo close by. The staff in this hotel was very helpful and kind. Housekeeping was more that I could expect. Our room was cleaned twice a day. It seemed almost too much. We had a large room with a balcony as a nice suprise. Breakfast was included in the room rate and I can truly say that it was the best breakfast I ever had. Lobster pasta at restaurant Caruso was also excellent. Beatiful, charming hotel.

We stayed here with our two young children and had a great stay. The location couldn't be better, close to the Galleria and the Duomo. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were neat and clean.

We were in Milan for a total of 6 days and it was a conscious effort for us in choosing this hotel, just to experience something different... for anyone choosing to stay at this hotel, bear in mind it is a historic landmark of a hotel, it's been around for a long time, the decor is elegant and classical Italian in style. Location-wise, to me it was wonderful, I didn't want to stay near the Duomo as the area always tends to be chaotic and unpleasant to stay at. The Grand Hotel, in the lovely Quadrilatero area is perfect for us. Close enough to the heart of the city (about a 5-10 minute walk will get you to the Teatro a la Scala, Corso Vittorio Emmanuelle II and the Duomo) yet far away from the tourist chaos that surrounds the Duomo.

This hotel is however not for everyone. Along with its history, it brings along with it some defects and problems... While I love the understated elegance of it all, the lovely antique furniture and gilded mirrors... my husband who loves technology and all that is new, did not quite enjoy the hotel as much as I did, and I can understand why. Showers do not have constant pressure, the water temperatures fluctuate from the extreme hot to the extreme cold (do not flush toilets or use the wash basins while someone is in the shower!!). Air conditioning in the room does not work, and as the weather turned warmer, so did the stuffiness and temperature in the rooms, to the point where, towards the end of our stay and at the beggining of April, it became unbearable. Windows can be opened but it will also let in the traffic noise. Sleep quality - well, the quality of the mattress depends on which rooms you are given. Our stay at the hotel was broken up by a short side trip to Emilia-Romagna. The first part we were given a dark sombre looking room. It had a lovely airy bathroom, but also a lumpy and soft bed, and very dark and heavy furniture. The second room we were given upon our return had a small bathroom, but also an obviously newer posture support (etc.) mattress.

If you are a light sleeper, be forewarned, there IS traffic noise, the rooms are not entirely sound proof. The sound of other guests opening and closing their door also reverberates.

Service wise, while the concierge will answer your questions and make dinner reservations etc, they are not the most friendly or willing to help, I did find them rather unapproachable and they will not go out of their way to assist. On one occasion, we asked for the location of a convenience store, and we were told where it was, but we were not informed that all convenience stores and pharmacies were closed on Sunday, which resulted in a futile search for us.

Overall, I would still say that it was a pleasant stay. Rooms are bigger than the norm, and its in a great location. However, given the price of this hotel, if the comforts of a modern hotel outranks an experience of the old world charm, then I would recommend the Park Hyatt over the Grand Hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share with us your recent experience at our Hotel.

We appreciate your positive comments and on the other side sincerely regret the technology issues that you have suffered for which we would like to extend our sincerest apologies. The Grand Hotel et de Milan is an eighteenth century Milanese mansion, as you well mentioned rich of history and with a great central location.

We do have some weakness of water pressure particularly when the hotel is heavily booked, as it was the case on your recent visit. This problem is soon to be eliminated this next August with the implementation of an engine which will increase the water pressure in all accommodations. Our air conditioning system is also being totally renewed and already three out of five floors have been completed.

We trust that those two major problems of concern will therefore soon been eliminated. Even though a classic style Hotel may not be exactly what you prefer we hope that you will not hold this past visit against us and that you will honor us again when travelling to Milan.

…. and as for the Maestro Giuseppe Verdi who passed away in his dedicated suite in 1901, no ghosts have been reported as of today but your dreams at the Grand Hotel et de Milan may well be accompanied by some arias like “La Traviata”, the “Nabucco” or perhaps the “Aida” (I hope you do not mind this last note of humor).

Yours sincerely,

Antonio Cailotto
