I went here alone but thoroughly enjoyed looking at the different species of fish. Nothing out of the ordinary - clownfish, angelfish, stingray, coy, etc. but if you're on a budget, or simply want something else to do while in the area, it's worth a look. Free entrance, closed on Mondays, closes for lunch from 1-2pm Tuesday-Sunday.

Just beside the parco sempione, we spent a lovely hour inside the cool aquarium looking at the fish and up on the roof terrace looking at the painted tiles and lovely views over the park.

Go visit the Acquario. The building is spectacular, a step back in time when palaces like this were built to showcase the wonders of the underwater world during the late 19th century. Though the outside is old, the inside has been renovated to show the animals in environments as close to nature as possible , with out the over the type manner that many public aquariums utilize today.

While there, we received a behind the scenes tour from one of the resident aquarist who explained the manner in which the systems were ran and the difficulty of dealing with a building that was so old, but in my opinion, they are doing an amazing job.

This era of buildings and aquarium deserve to be preserved and need to be visted.

Admission is FREE!

My wife and I love aquariums, and when we read that this place was free we were not expecting too much. It is quite a ways from the nearest metro so check out the trams as they seem to go right past it. If you are travelling with kids they will love it because the tanks go all the way to the floor and it is a fairly small aquarium so they can run around and not get lost. They also have cumfy leather couches for parent to rest on while the kids are going from tank to tank. However, from a couples point of view. I would not recommend as nothing really stands out and you can go through the whole thing in 15 to 30 min. Again, it is free and it would be great for a family.
