We arrived at the canal too late to see the shops and decided not to brave the pizzerias crowded with 20 somethings enjoying the early spring evening. This left us with a choice of about a dozen restaurants and the "coniglio bianco" appealed to me as an Alice in Wonderland fan and it was next to quite an interesting gallery. I was pleased to see that some of the artwork from the gallery adorned the walls. The service was adequate but not terrific, the portions large (my beef cheek was tender and tasty, my wife's veal cutlet huge) but with a small number of tables occupied, we rather wish we had defied our 40+ inhibitions and joined the youngsters for a basic feed and a beer. A bit more atmosphere and this place would have received an extra dot.

The best Ossobuco in town.
That says it all.
Friendly service and typical Italian style.

I just wish I could wholeheartedly write a raving review about this place. We had an absolutely delicious lunch there on an uncrowded wednesday, sitting in the shade on the pretty outside terrace surrounded by plants, looking out onto the naviglio grande, watching the water quietly float ... I wish I could!
But halfway through the meal the waiter knocked my full glass over and I got all the red wine all over my white pants and shirt. "Scusi", he said, picked the glass out of my plate full of pasta (and butter!), set it down without cleaning or refilling it, and left me with the problem how to walk through Milan in my soiled outfit! (My daughter had to bring me a dress from a nearby store...)
Now, of course these things can happen, no need to have a nasty reaction.
But what really is bad, no, worst style, is not to make the slightest gesture of compensating the damage. They charged us for the whole meal, even including the spilled wine! - according to the rule that turning a tourist (= 2nd class guest, anyway unlikely to come back) off does not matter.
