What can be said that hasn't already be said...One of western's art marvels that justifies by itself a trip to Italy and Mantova.
Just awesome.
Equal to Giotto's frescoes in Padova or Pietro della Francesca's in Arrezo...
So amazingly beautiful.
So moving
Best it to go and see them...
We were privileged as to visit the room in February, i.e. low season almost alone...This is really the est way to enjoy them as you are spared the selfie freaks and other noisy human brothers in arms...

If you have time just to visit one sight in Mantua, this is it, the frescoes are stunning and in good condition, the history depicted interesting. Worth the separate ticket of 5.5 euros and the nuisance of the timed entrance. Easy walk up to the tower. Reserve in advance via internet, in peak season.

We visited in early November: there was nobody else there, we had the room to ourselves and stayed over an hour, no guards and nobody to throw us out (yes, I'm a real Renaissance art enthusiast). To be able to see the whole room alone, as the original Gonzaga duke and Mantegna had planned, was a wonderful and evocative experience. It's one of the most complete and beautiful fresco cycles of the period, and as it isn't in a church, you can get really close and see all the detail.

This is a very famous room inside the ducal palace.
Its ceiling is amazingly painted, showing a glimpse to heaven with hanging angels in a fantastic perspective. Awesome.

The best thing about Italy is visiting places like this one. You can feel the history, the culture and the value of it. So reccomended!
