Restaurant is on very nice, quiet place. Service is very good, they put a lot of attentionmto our small kid, there is well a castle to pay in. But no any juicy. But we have expected more from the food, rizotto was dry, octopus in too much spicy sauce. The best were pumpkin stuffed tortellini.

This is the first Slow Food restaurant I have been to that did not live up to my expectations. Food was ok but not memorable. Service was fine. We found Osteria ai Ranari to be much better as well as less expensive. But the setting at La Nuova Marasca is very nice. All tourists the night we went.

We found this restaurant by accident tucked away behind the basilica. Our older edition of the Slow Food guide didn't have La Nuova Maresca listed so it was a real piece of good fortune that we ate here.
In a lovely peaceful spot you get to eat wonderful local/regional food. I had pike fillets and my partner had a risotto. Both superb. The menu is all in Italian (a very good thing!) so bring your phrase book if you're unsure of ingredients. The wines were all Lombardy and excellent value. I even had the local cake as a dessert.
Service was very friendly and efficient and the setting is very peaceful and pleasant.
I think this was the best place we ate at during our holiday.

I came across this restaurant as the only central spot in Mantova in 2011 Osterie Italia and I was very glad to have followed its recommendation! The food was delicious (agnoli in brodo and the plate of formaggi), and the waiter was helpful and charming. The house wine was exceptional. I was only surprised that there weren't more people there, perhaps because, while central, it is tucked away in a square behind S. Antonio. Perhaps costs 2 euro more per person than the more tourist-oriented places on Piazza delle Erbe but the quality far exceeds them, and it's good value.

We (from Germany) visited this nice Restaurant on Friday 4 July 2008 and found it just by happy chance. After a morning tour of the wonderful Mantua historic centre, we felt hungry and looked around for a good restaurant to have a lunch. We had the old traveller’s advice in mind:„Prefer to look for restaurants in the side streets - not so much in the main tourist squares“. Finally, we found this gem on a quiet piazza close to Basilica de Sant’Andrea after taking some side streets from Piazza dele Erbe. There are 10 to 15 nice tables on the piazza under big white umbrellas and there are about 70 seats in the air-conditioned interior. The owner Sophie greeted us with a smile! We decided to sit inside in one of the modern and colourful decorated guestrooms. The Trattoria is family-owned - the owner is the head chef – his wife Sophie looks after the guests in a friendly and charmingly manner.
To make the story short: We had a wonderful meal of traditional Mantua Food (some examples: Risotto alla pilota (8,- €), Tortelli di zucca (9,- €), Luccio con salsa con polenta (13,- €), Melone mantovana (5,- €) accompanied by the famous Lambrusco of Mantua (1/4 ltr. 3,-€), which is dry and not so terrible sweet as it is sold in Germany.
What were the positives? Good traditional food of Mantua, friendly owners, good verbal explanations of all dishes by the owner personally (Sophie speaks excellent English), clean dining rooms and excellent toilets. Prices are medium high and adequate.
Which improvements are possible? An additional English Menu would make things easier (but not so important because the owner explained all…)

Summary: We recommend this Trattoria to all who are interested in Italian cuisine
