“enjoyed stay at the Della Torre”
Reviewed August 18, 2008

A very pleasant hotel:well decorated and very clean. Very well managed and operated by friendly and professional staff.
In a handy location for ferry, railway and cable car - 20mins walk along a pleasant promenade to centre of Stresa.
Rooms on the front likely to suffer from proximity to busy road.

my friend and i have just returned from the della torre.wehad a two centre holiday with a week in garda and a week in stresa.when we arrived at the della torre we were shown a very shabby room with a cracked washbasin ,towels that i would not use for the dog! all in all it was substandard and the crystal brochure stated that all rooms had been refurbished.when we complained via our rep the owner let it slip that it had not been refurbished since1995 hardly recent? the hotel was full with a coach party so we had no alternatve but to stay on the saturday night,we were moved on sunday afternoon wasting a precious day of our holiday,i must say the room was a huge contrast although it was at the rear of the hotel.we were not disturbed by the noise .the food was good the hotel is a fair distance to walk from stresa so not suitable for all!!

Just back from a week at this hotel booked through Crystal. It is situated on the busy main road like most of the hotels in the town. My room was at the front of the hotel but with the shutters down noise was minimal and we had no problems sleeping.
The breakfast is very basic and a few more choices would help - restricted to a bread roll or sliced bread, tinned fruit, yoghurt, cereal, cheese & cold meat. The evening meal was a different matter - there was 3 options for starters & 3 for main course a sweet or cheese board. The options were very different and did not appear more than once the week we were there. The fish in particular was first class but we did not have a bad meal once. Everything was well cooked and well presented.
The reception were very welcoming when we checked in and supplied maps and information on the town and surrounding area. The hotel is family run and really go out of their way to make sure your holiday is as enjoyable as possible.
The room had everything you would expect and with two women on holiday I'm glad to say coat hangers were ample.
There are many things to see and do in and around the town and surrounding area. It is truly beautiful - well worth enduring the 3 hour transfer from Verona airport.

3*, 500 mtrs. from train station, 112E/nite for two (including breakfast), no internet. Stayed here 7/22 & 7/23. Very nicely furnished and spacious rooms—clearly a 3 star place (or more)with exceptionally friendly folks. Breakfasts served in a large, attractive area but are somewhat disappointing. More in the French style of juice, bread and coffee. No fresh fruit, no meat or cheese. No internet here, but it's available on their computer at a bar-restaurant a couple of blocks down at the water at reasonable rates. You even get a free half hour if you have a meal there. The hotel is located a bit of a walk from the center of town, but it's only two blocks down to the lake and the docks where most of the water taxis to the islands and other towns around the lake pull up.

  • Liked — The quality of the rooms in relation to price, give it's a lake resort
  • Disliked — Mediocre breakfasts and lack of internet connections

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful week in Stresa. Our stay in the Della Torre was extremely pleasant. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and our room, which had lake views, was the most spacious room I have ever stayed in. If we happened to waken during the night we were aware of the trains but that noise was never responsible for disturbing us.
We would definitely return in the future.

I believe that recent reviews have been a little harsh. We had a wonderful two weeks here and I would not hesitate to recommend it. The location (between a main road and a railway line) is of course not ideal from the point of view of noise. We had a lake view room however and once the french windows and the shutters were closed at night we experienced no disturbance. Occasionally when we were having a drink on the balcony the scooters roaring past were a bit of an irritant. There are no coach parties in high season and the air conditioning in the rooms is on permanently so it is always lovely and cool. The rooms are well equipped and spotlessly clean. The new digital safe which was free of charge was a nice bonus as many of the larger hotels make a charge for this.
The staff were very efficient and generally pleasant and friendly. All spoke English and French as well as Italian. A special mention should be made of Caterina in the restaurant and Francina on reception who went out of their way to give exceptional service.
The food was excellent. Each morning at breakfast there was the evening menu on the table so you could select in advance. In the unlikely event that you did not like any of the choices you could ask for an alternative. Nearly all of the dishes were Italian and those seeking British fare abroad should certainly look elsewhere. The pasta starter (14 different varieties in a fortnight) was extremely popular and we had to be careful to go easy on the second helpings in order to save room for the main course.
There were very few English people there during our stay and initially we thought this would bother us. Everyone was very friendly however and efforts were made at conversation. We met some very nice people from both France and Belgium. I enjoyed speaking French and the Flemish could all manage a few English phrases.
Finally a few words about the pool which was set in a very pleasant garden. There were a few very simple rules which had had be adhered to. You left your shoes on a rack, entered the pool area through a foot bath and took a quick shower before you swam. This ensured that the pool was crystal clear and a nice place to bathe. There was a lifeguard/pool barman on duty to oversee procedings. There were ample sunbeds and tables around the pool and in the garden and a good mix of sunshine and shade. There was no problem getting a bed because people did not tend to stay around the pool all day but called in for an hour or two to fit in with excursions etc. Do not bother taking your own towels if you are tight on your luggage allowance as pool towels are available.
We enjoyed all of the above and at a price which was several hundred pounds cheaper than the really opulent hotels in the centre. I would recommend the Della Torre without hesitation.

First the good points the room and the hotel was spotless and well maintained and decorated. the pool area and garden was also very well looked after.
Now the not so good, I booked two rooms 6 months ago expecting them to be adjoining, they weren't even on the same floor which was somewhat inconvenient although to be fair the desk staff did offer free garage parking in recompense.
The air conditioning was switched off.A request to the night porter for it to be switched on was met by a response that this was not possible. We therefore had to leave the window open to get some air and yes the traffic was very noisy.
The hotel caters for coach parties and the food seemed geared to these clients, ie mass catering, get em in and get em out .The food was adequate without being memorable
