“Our holiday at Hotel Royal, Stesa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel in Stresa, The hotel is about 20 minutes walk along the lake shore from the centre and it had a homely feel. There was a good cold buffet breakfast, but boiled eggs were available on request, and a good three course evening meal in the hotel restaurant which was partly outside. We had a front facing room with balcony having sun in the morning, there was some road noise; a rear, lake view room would have been quieter but probably more expensive. The room was clean, and of fair size, the bed comfortable. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, speaking good English. Tourist information could be found from Tour Operators files (Inghams) or Lake steamer/ bus/train timetables at reception.
The hotel garden and pool area were beautiful. Overall this is a good 3 star hotel run by the owners, Signor and Signora Rosa. Signor Rosa's paintings adorn the walls of the hotel and its bedrooms. There is a lake steamer landing stage about 200 yards walk down the side road for trips to the islands but the town centre landing stage has a more frequent service to other places on the lake. The Matterone cable car is also just down the side road from the hotel. We loved this hotel and resort and will hope to return. The hotel has a rooof terrace with beautiful panoramic views.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms on 2nd or 3rd floor would be quieter than on the front of the hotel.

Hotel Royal is a good budget accomodation in Stresa. Service is good, Decor a bit outdated but quite good value.

It is decently clean and has also partial side sea views.

Beds are rock hard, but on complaint my mattress was changed and I could actually sleep! So do complain if you don't like sleeping on cement...I don't! :)

ideal for visits to the islands and cable car, pleasant walk to town, terrific views from room and 5th floor terrace, just a bit dated in parts, bed was rock hard and breakfast very average, but all in all a great place to stay

Room Tip: a lake view is a must

I picked this hotel from all the great reviews it had.
We arrived at a very late 4am due to 6 hrs delay with Easy jet, was met by our taxi booked with Tomassucci Travel they let the Hotel know we was delayed which was brill. Checked by the night porter and dealt with very well.
The room was a standard room but we had a good side view of the lake, we asked for a high floor and double bed which is what we got, the room was fine but the bed was hard as a rock.
Breakfast was awful the coffee was terrible like mud (tip ask for hot milk with it).
The Hotel was right by the Cable Car and Water Taxis to the Islands which were great, and very easy to do, there was also a market in Stresa on a Friday.
The Little Train that goes around Stresa is good fun and it helps to find your way round.
The Hotel is a nice walk from the centre but not in the rain!

Room Tip: Try to get a view

We stayed for three nights at the Hotel Royal, the room was large, clean but very basic. The breakfast was not fantastic and a very poor selection for veggies, the restaurant staff did not exactly trip-over themselves to make sure you had been properly served etc. The front reception staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. The hotel does seem aimed at the more mature holidaymaker, my partner and myself seemed to be the among the very few guest who are under 60, which was fine as it meant the pool and sunbeds were very quiet. The centre of stresa is a good 20 minute walk from the hotel, not the easiest if you have mobility issues. Not the worst place we've stayed, but not the best either, we wouldn't go back.

P.s. the surrounding area is stunning!!

We stayed here for 3 nights on way home to England from Tuscany. We had 4th floor room with balcony and superb views over lake and mountains. It is very short walk to ferry boat for the beautiful islands (and hotel have arrangement with what seemed a very good value ferry company for this - it's a fabulous day out), the cable car to alpine garden and on to top of mountain and to the centre of Stresa for huge choice of eating places. The only downside for us was the restaurant. The dinner menu in the hotel seemed unimaginative and was not veggie friendly at all so we didn't try it. The breakfast was dull although there did appear to be a la carte available presumably as an extra. The fruit juice and coffee quality was poor although lovely to have a decent pot of English tea with milk!! Reception were very friendly, helpful and informative as were the house staff - no faults there.

Room Tip: 4th floor with stunning lake view

we booked this hotel which overlooks the lake - if you pay a little extra (its worth it) We had a room on the 4th floor with wonderful views. Less than 5 mins walk to the boat trips across the lake and same place is the cable car. Hotel rooms have a fridge which was needed although there is Air con in the rooms it does not get very cold - like some.
Breakfast is very basic and staff are not quick to clear empty tables and relay for waiting guests - Also beware some will be reserved so don't just sit without the acknowledgement of the Maitre D.

We did not eat in the restaurant at night as was not impressed with the menu price or choice. As with a 20 min stroll into town you have the main square and lots of restaurants, choice and reasonable prices .

Reception staff very friendly and informative - restaurant staff could learn to smile.

Room Tip: pay the extra for the view over the lake. You can sit outside the small bar on terrace which over l...
