stayed here early July, rooms are a good size, clean with good bathrooms, breakfast is good and the staff are very helpful speaking good English, the road is closeby but noise is not intrusive, the aircon was very useful with temps at 24+ at night and high humiditiy. We did not eat dinner at the hotel, too many choices in Stresa, but the terrace resturant looked nice.
The pool was warm and welcoming late afternoon to cool down in. The hotel is well positioned for both the cable car and water taxis to the Isles.

The room we stayed in was excellent. Balcony was large and gave us a beautifull view on the garden. Airco was a plus on warm days . It was a pleasure having breakfast and diner on the large terrace facing the garden. Food was good (a bit more choise would be nice) The ever friendly Imad and his team of waiters did their utmost to make everyone feel comfortable. Always correct and helpfull. In every detail one can see it is a family managed hotel. The pool is good. One of the best things is the roof top terrace with views all around.
From the hotel it is only a 100 m walk to a small harbour where the ferry boat trips starts to the islands and other nice places around Lake Maggiore. Also starting point of the cable cabins going up in the mountens. The ferry terminal is also the start of the promenade bringing you along the lakeside in a 20 minutes walk to the centre of Stresa. If anything one could mention the trains and car trafic giving a bit of a city noice in this peacfull area.

My wife and I had a 5 night stay at the Hotel Royal early June.We had a garden view room, try
for lake view. The room was a good size, very clean with a lovely balcony. The windows are
double glazed but when you are on the balcony or have the window open there is rather a lot
of road and rail traffic noise. There is a good pool(too cold for me to use).On the roof is a lovely
terrace with great views all around with plenty of chairs/tables etc. The hotel is very well staffed
and well manged.Breakfast and dinner was served under an outside canopy. It was a little cold at times. Breakfast is a wide ranging continental style.Dinner is good value but could do with more
choice. The hotel is 5 minutes from the lake from where there is a very pleasant 20 /25 minute
walk along the lakeside into the town centre.Stresa rail station is an 8 minute walk or 8/10 Euro
by taxi.Malpensa airport was Euro 90 by taxi .There is a new bus service Stresa/Malpensa Euro
12 although the frequency did not work for us.I had a problem to clearly understand the train
schedule from Stresa to Malpensa.Stresa station did not have the correct info and the information office in Stresa was not staffed by a very friendly person. We took the train to Busto
Ariziio and found there was a far more frequent service than we had been lead to believe. For
us Italian trains were very modern, cheap and punctual.Do not judge the trains by the outside
appearance of the trains or stations !!!

Room Tip: do take a lake view room unless you are ok with windows closed. The rooms are airconditioned. Unofrt...

Stayed 2 nights with my wife and it was sooo nice. 15 foot ceiling in room, private huge balcony, very very friendly staff. Free Wi-Fi , good bed and bathroom, great views and location. Should be ranked as 5 star when you consider the price. Family run and they care about their guests. Highly recommend!!!!!!

Room Tip: Front desk very helpful with area attractions and what to see

Room - we booked for a lake facing view and it's well worth the money. Waking up to amazing view of the islands on the Lake Maggiore was a treat. Room was large but some electric fittings were broken i,e. our bed site lamp. We got a room with a large balcony which is nice.

Service - during check in the guy at reception was friendly. But during off peak hours is it replaced by a security person who hardly can understand English!!

Breakfast - was served on the patio facing the garden. The worst coffee that I ever tasted in the world. Orange juice was cheap diluted cordial!! Oh and the cheese ....avoid!

We had dinner for about €22 per person on the first night when we arrived after a long drive from Switzerland as we were too tired to get into town. Meal was ok nothing special.

Overall - rooms ok, carpark bit of a mess (first come first serve basis) , pool was nice. About 5 mins walk to the ferry terminal for the Borromean islands.

Very nice location within few steps from the lake, so the rooms overlooking the lake have excellent view. Other rooms overlook the garden with a balcony, which was nice as well. Big price to pay if you want a view of the lake, rooms are almost the same except for the TV, the TV was outdated in the room with the garden view.
Rooms are spacious as well as the bathroom. To use the safety box you need to get the key from the reception, just remember to give back the key when checking out.
Breakfast can be better, and the hotel is close to the train station, only few minutes by taxi.

We stayed at the Royal for 6 nights (couple). The athmosphere was totally relaxing and charming with old furniture, fresh flowers all over the lobby area and great terrace area for breakfast. Big plus was pool that was open 24 hours and a beatuful 15 minutes walk by the lake
to the city center. Also the cable to the Alpine Garden and mountain as well as boat service
to Isola Bella (be sure to visit - the palace and the gardens are amazing!) were a 3 minutes walks away. The cleanliness of the hotel and it's garden and pool area were very well taken care of - as well as service by the pool. The hotel offers also half- and full board paggages,
but we never use such, because we like to eat in different places when travelling.
Only thing that we felt that would need some improvment was breakfast; after 6 nights having exactly the same breakfast buffee waiting every morning was pooring.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden and pool also have a lake view - be sure to ask for one!
