My husband & I stayed at La Palma for a week in August, it is a family run hotel and the family are very much in evidence. Check in was easy, the room and views were great. We were half board and enjoyed the meals very much , it was part buffet part menu choice. The cleanliness of the room was exceptional , towels changed twice daily, turn down service with slippers placed on the mat next to the bed If this hotel had a Spa it would definitely be a 5 star,

The hotel is right on the edge of the lake and the room we were given was a good size and had a perfect view across the lake and of the mountains beyond. On the downside, we were right next to the lift so were woken up every morning by those guests going for an early breakfast. Breakfast was to a very civilised 10 o'clock and there was a good selection on offer.
Most of the staff were very formal and could have been a bit more friendly (except for the young lady waiting the bar), on the other hand, service was excellent.
I would certainly recommend La Palma, and we may well be visiting again in the future.

we spent last week at la Palma and were delighted to find for ourselves that consultation of tripadvisor led us to a lovely hotel experience. The location is perfect. Our previous holiday in Stresa was based at Baveno, and it involved long walks or taxi fares to reach the lovely little centre of Stresa itself.. Our well equipped room 601 had a nice view to the mountain behind, and the terrace overlooked Isola Bella. Staff could not have been more courteous and helpful. We stayed B+B as we preferred to eat outdoors in the evenings in the gentle bustle of the town squares.
Our only criticism , one that is alluded to in previous reviews, is of the breakfast. While in variety and volume there was sufficient to choose from, the hot food was disappointing. From an irish or British viewpoint the fried bacon was rather overdone, and the scrambled egg was lukewarm .

having said that I would have no hesitation in recommending La Palma
to anyone seeking the comfort of a reliable hotel. The clientele are largely of a "mature" age group--- so what? we have been around for a while and know valueand comfort when we see it.

Stayed for 2 nights in August 2010, lovely hotel with beautiful lawn at front to sit, have a drink and watch the world go by. The service to get drinks was slow and breakfast felt frantic with not enough staff. The pool is on the other side of the road to the hotel overlooking the lake which the kids loved.

Stresa is a great town, with lots of restaurants, bars and shops. There is a lovely park for young children and lots to do from boat trips to cable cars.

We had a family room with a side view of the lake which was lovely with a big bathroom.

I would stay at this hotel again and will return to Stresa.

Visited Stresa and La Palma Hotel for first time last week - and it was a super experience after an initial hiccup. We arrived late evening to find our side lake view rooms which we had booked were not available immediately and we were offered grand lake facing rooms at a cost of an extra 75 euros per night. However, the hotel offered us the rooms at no extra charge for the first two nights after which we moved into the side view rooms which were lovely anyway. This did not spoil a super stay as the hotel and staff were wonderful. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfasts were great. The position of the hotel is ideal - right on the lakeside with magnificent views yet also near the train station and a short walk to local restaurents. Most visitors were older than us and there is an air of sedate gentility about Lake Maggiore which is very relaxing. However, plenty to do on a five day break. Catch the train to Milan and go up on the Cathedral roof; visit the islands; use the chairlifts to the top of the mountain; catch the panoramic train or boat to Switzerland....or just soak up the sun and relaxing atmosphere.

My husband and I have just returned from a long weekend with my parents at La Palma, who had stayed at the hotel some years ago and recommended it.

It's difficult to write anything that hasn't been written already. The hotel is beautiful, and the staff very helpful. We had two rooms tucked away behind our own access door which meant we were co-located with an extra measure of privacy. Our balconies opened onto the left hand side of the hotel which gave us a view of the lake through the fire escape (not complaining, we hadn't paid for a lake view), and a lovely view up the mountains. Each balcony had a small table and 2 chairs, and we could just about get all 4 chairs onto the 1 balcony for an apero. There is also a small fridge in the room with enough spare room to chill a bottle of wine, although do take a corkscrew with you.

We didn't have dinner at the hotel so I can't comment on the food but the breakfast was good, with some hot dishes (bacon & scrambled egg). If we had to have a minor gripe, it would be about the maitre d' at breakfast. We didn't wanted to be seated next to the clearing station 2 days in a row so we asked if we could sit at another table. He then proceeded to ignore us and would not come to get tea and coffee orders - so we went to get our own!

Lots of places to eat in the town, it's a pleasant stroll there and back with lots of opportunities for after dinnber drinks and coffees overlooking the lake.

The pool is across the road - not a problem - and means you have a fab view of the lake while sunbathing or swimming. Beachtowels are provided.

Would definitely come back to Stresa and would stay here again.
