Booked a 2 night stay in this hotel and were not able to stay longer than a couple hours. Checked in and were told nothing about the town, the breakfast, basically just given a key. Room was very very tiny, had no balcony and the one window looked at the side of another building. The carpet was at least 40 years old and disgustingling stained, the plaster on the walls was coming un done, there were ants in the tub, I took a 30 minute nap on the bed and my hip still hurts where the spring of the matress was pressing on it - awful bed (was the kicker for me to talk to the desk). I went to the desk and a witch of a women named Iria scowled at me and said she could do nothing as we booked through an online company. I called the online company, who called the hotel, the intial statement from the hotel was "They booked a standard room..what do they expect." When the online company heard this they understood what we were dealing with and canceled our stay even though Iria all of a sudden wanted to show me another room...too late. Oh yea, did I mention the Internet, you could buy "vouchers" for 20 minutes of internet use for 5 Euro per 20 minutes - that's it no other option with the internet.
We spent our 2 nights at the Hotel Royal down the street and what a difference....

Room Tip: Don't book a standard room

Truly Italian with a glorious position directly on the lake and the magnificent ferry service. These are two adjacent buildings. We stayed in the Speranza, but the restaurant is in the Milan. Food is truly delicious and plentiful. Waiters are really good fun.
Also partner to the magnifiucent Regina Palace a few humdred yards away when the pool is available to Milan Speranza guests.
Truly great hotel and holiday

What a super location right on Lake Maggiore in the middle of the town of Stressa. Hotel had excellent food, great service, the staff was friendly and you could use the pool and facilities at the Regina Palace (5 STARS!!!) right down the street. We were on a Cosmos tour and this was our favorite hotel. It is so convenient for lake tours (right out front), town restaurants (right behind the hotel) and everything was right there. If we return to Stressa, we would definitely stay there. The dining room staff even brought second helpings of pasta each night. A real gem!

We visited this hotel as a coach party (24-29 September 2011) with Edwards Coaches, South Wales, UK. We couldn't have been happier with the service and care shown to us this week. Some members of our party were vegetarians, and they were given the utmost care and consideration possible to ensure that they enjoyed their stay.

Ourselves, we had adjoining rooms on the first floor with a balcony with extensive views of Lake Maggiore. The reception staff were always friendly and ready to assist at all times.

All in all a most enjoyable holiday and thank you to all who made it possible.

Room Tip: We stayed at the front of the hotel, and didn't experience a lot of noise during the night, but of course that depends on when you wish to go.

We were upgraded to a lake view room this trip, and agree now that it's well worth paying the extra. The hotel is old but the dinners are excellent (breakfast is continental). If you don't like the bed, complain: they changed ours. Make use of the facilities at the nearby Regina Palace. It's not the best hotel in Stresa but it is excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Pay for the lake view: floor three upwards. Eat in the Milan
