We had a lovely 9 night stay in the Primavera. I booked through Olotels, and contacted the hotel by email nearer to the start of the holiday to let them know we were still coming. On arrival we were told that we would be moving rooms after 1 night, to a quieter room. The first night we were on the first floor in a triple room (we had booked a double so a triple was OK by us).

The hotel is in a quaint cobbled pedestrianised area of Stresa, but the area can be noisy at night due to the local bars and restaurants. What we did not realise on the first night was that there is an automatic metal shutter that blocks out a lot of the noise and light.

The room we were moved to was on the top floor with a lovely view over the roof tops. We had a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. The room was nicer than the one on the first floor, and was carpeted. The bathroom was large and had the usual shampoo, soap and shower caps. The top floor had larger balconies, but most rooms have a balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The large TV had loads of channels, most in various foreign languages. The English ones were BBC1 and 2 and CNN. The rooms had a mini bar in a small fridge, which was handy for storing our water.

Once we found the switch for the shutter we did not hear any noise from the street. The bed on the top floor was more comfortable than the first floor, which we found very hard. There was a key operated safe in the wardrobe, and spare blankets.

Breakfast (served 7.00a.m. to 10.00 a.m.) was buffet style and included at least 5 different breakfast cereals (muesli, cornflakes, All Bran, rice crispies and Coco Pops). There was chopped fruit and yogurt, bread, butter, margarine and jam, access to a toaster, ham and cheese, tea, coffee, omelette sections and various cakes and croissants. We enjoyed the breakfasts, and my husband really liked the Cafe Latte. There was a TV in the breakfast area playing endless videos of things to do in and around Stresa. The commentary was in various languages but not easy to hear (probably just as well if you are trying to talk) , and a bit tedious after a while.

Guests can eat evening meals in the sister Hotel Meeting, about 5 minutes walk away. We ate there one night and it was fine. Guests of Primavera get 10% discount. There is a restaurant next door where discounts are also available, but we did not try this one. Most of the time we ate in Mamma Mia, which was closer.

There is a small lift as well as stairs and a PC that guests can use in reception. There and a few chairs and settees in reception.

The owner was very friendly and welcoming. We also found the cleaners very friendly. The other women were less friendly, but they were all polite and efficient. Isabella was always very helpful to us at reception, answering all our questions, mainly about the weather.

We chose the hotel as it was reasonably priced with mainly good reviews, and in an excellent location - 2 minutes walk to the ferries, 15-20 minute walk to the railway station, and 20 minutes walk to the cable car. There is a supermarket a few minutes walk away which sold very reasonably priced bottles of water - as cheap as 0.18 Euros. There is also an excellent travel agent Tomassucci Viaggi about 2 minutes walk away, where you can book trips, buy ferry tickets and train tickets. We used them a lot, and they all speak excellent English.

In summary, we enjoyed our stay, were happy with our choice of hotel, and would stay there again. The only thing I would do differently is to book directly with the hotel rather than through a third party, for peace of mind.

Room Tip: We can recommend room 435, with a lovely view.

Can't fault this hotel for location. It's the perfect base to explore Stresa and the surrounding areas. The owner is very friendly and helpful and seems to work 24/7! You are literally 1 minute walk from the lake and in the middle of the market and restaurant area of the town. If you stay here you must visit the wine bar next door AL BUSCION, it's a gem!

Only negative is there is no pool but you can pay extra and use a neighbouring hotels pool, they did not tell us this on arrival which was a pity as we would have been willing to pay extra for this.

The rooms could do with updating but overall good experience and would stay again based on the staff and location.

Best points: Central location, winebar Al Buscion just opposite with great selection of wines, snacks & free WiFi, efficient air conditioning, close to airport bus stop( Fronte Chiesa stop if you are booking on line) , close to lake. generous buffet breakfast, BBC 1 & 2 on modern flat screen TV.
Restaurant Mamma Mia just at end of street - great food & service.

Room Tip: Rooms at front face church (with bells, though only during daytime).

A good three star hotel. Good sized room with air conditioning and a small balcony. Room was kept clean with linen changed twice in a week long stay. Able to keep up with news at home as the TV had more English stations than is usual even in 5* hotels we have stayed in. Staff are friendly and provide good advice regarding area and transport.
Great location, close to restaurants bars and most importantly the lake.
