Stayed at Regina Palace as part of International Congress. Great location and the property has old world charm from lounge area, display cases and rooms. We had Lake view room which was very comfortable. The meals were very enjoyable and the dinning room staff very professional.
The only issue is no matter what time you arrive you can not complete check in until 2pm. This puts a lot of pressure on staff from 2-3.30 and a bit frustrating when you have flown 23 hours to get to Italy then had 1 hour in transport.
Maybe that adds to the charm.
Conference rooms were great and the pool and gardens show that this would be a popular hotel in the summer season.

Built at the turn of the century, the Regina Palace is wonderfully opulent - almost but not quite over the top. Gold and stained glass in the elaborate doors, multi-coloured marble floors, gilt furniture in cozy groupings in the huge lounge, tiny but exquisitely decorated elevators.
But the real magic is in the setting. A vast green lawn with formal Italian gardens slopes down towards beautiful Lago Maggiore - islands in the distance, mountains in the background. We had only a partial lake view but the balcony rooms overlooking the lake would offer spectacular views. Since our trip was in October, we didn't use the pool but it's behind the hotel in a park-like setting.
Our room was small but lovely, in the same period style as the rest of the hotel. Warning: Italian hotel beds tend to be very firm and these were no exception. As a senior with hip issues, I was glad of the foam I'd brought along. The bathroom was a good size with the ubiquitous bidet and a huge jacuzzi tub. We didn't try the jacuzzi feature so can't speak to it. The sides of the tub were very high but we didn't have any trouble climbing in. A flexible shower head and a partial glass barrier allowed us to use the tub easily as a shower. Another couple in our group complained about their tiny shower so it would be best to ask in advance. A few reviewers have complained about noise which surprises me - our room was very quiet.
Breakfast was plentiful - excellent cold cuts (ham in Northern Italy is the best I've eaten), yogurt, cereals, sweet cakes, cheeses, some hot items and an individually ordered espresso drink of our choice. The only negatives were the dry bread and the scrambled eggs, or should I say scrambled egg soup. Apparently someone complained about it and the manager said that he'd never had a complaint before - hard to believe.
The Regina Palace is an excellent base, minutes from the centre of Stresa, close to the ferries over to the various islands in the lakes and central to exploring other towns and lakes in this breath-taking region.

Room tip: Choose a lake view room.

This hotel was in the heart of Stresa. Walk 100 yards to Lake Maggiore across the street. The view is worth it.
Rooms either have a balcony side or water view. Lovely looking rooms small refrig, nice dark drapes for sleeping, flat screen TV, good water pressure, big bath tubs, hair dryer and very nice staff. I loved walking the staircase instead of elevator. Grand looking and the furniture is very nice. Wifi in your rooms, and clean hallways. Guys in the middle of the floors you can use a free shoe shine machine. Women have nice shampoo. I enjoyed the fresh fruit and great breakfast. My only issue was with toilet and noise from floors above me. The walls must be thin so I suggest you keep the fan on all night long. Walk to the coffee shop on your left and wine shop is at the end of the street. Each Saturday in the summer and fall they have a nice farmers market. Take the boat ride across the street to the island too. Beautiful place. Recommended.

Room tip: Ask for a room on the third floor with a lake view

Had room 201 overlooking the lake and side view to the islands which you can visit by boat which docks across the road right outside the hotel. Normally big old hotels from another era 1866 don't have much modern things working well but this place does. Free wifi that works in the room, hot power shower, a round bed! We missed breakfast so you can have free coffee from the bar service. Plenty of parking. Good spa with availability for massages at short notice.

Regina Palace is an “old palace” style building located in the heart of Stresa. Its location is perfect to offer you grand views of Lago Maggiore to the front and the mountains to the back. Just a short walk to the town center, short walk to the train station and just across the street from the ferries. It is decorated beautifully. The rooms are ‘boutique’ style with a sitting room, and small balcony. The grounds are very inviting for eating or having a drink outside. There is an outdoor pool, but make sure visit the indoor pool which is beautiful (see picture) with a very comforting and relaxing atmosphere and filled with surprises. The restaurant is beautiful and has great views of the lake. Breakfast and service in the dining area was excellent (we did not eat at the restaurant otherwise). This is a great place and blends luxury while feeling like you rolled back in time. While in the area visit the islands but also do the Centovalli tour (Train/Boat tour). You take the public train to Domodossola and then you get on this small lumbering train that takes you over the mountains and through the valleys to Locarno Switzerland. Great ride with incredible views. Enjoy some time in Locarno and then take the ferry back to Stresa. Inexpensive and you can get the tickets at the train station (versus the tour companies). You can also do the trip in reverse. It’s a great Day! Awesome hotel, great service and location.
