“Beautifully remodeled apartment in a great location”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We stayed at Stresa Residence the end of September '13 in the two bedroom apartment. The apartment is at the top of a spiral staircase which is original to the building. Like many older buildings in Italy there is no elevator, so you must climb the stairs, but it's not a long climb up. My parents are approaching 70 and they had no trouble climbing the stairs a few times a day.

The apartment has modern decor with clean lines; it was renovated just a couple of years ago, so everything is quite new. Bathrooms are huge by Italian standards. Our apartment also had a small balcony with a small table and two chairs.

The first level of the apartment has a murphy bed, small kitchen, and a kitchen table. Also has a couple of very nice and large wardrobes. The upper level has a unique feel to it as it has a valuted ceiling and two large skylights which open electrically. Both levels have air conditioning units

The kitchen is clever as it closes off with two large doors, making the room feel more like a leaving room when you want to. The small kitchen has everything you need including an electric stove top, microwave, small fridge and even a dishwasher. Fully stocked with utensils, plates, bowls, cutlery, etc...

The location is hard to beat as it is located in the historic center of Stresa which is a pedestrian area (no cars) so it is very quiet. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, and enotecas right out the door. Also, the ferry boat landing is just across the main street, about 150 meters away, so it is still quite close to the waterfront. There is also a small supermarket only a little over 100 meters up the street. Very convenient.

Only downside is there is no parking right there as it is a pedestrian only area, but we found free parking on the street only a few minute walk away, not a problem.

Giovanni was an excellent host, he was available for any needs we had and had some great suggestions for places to eat dinner.

We stayed in the Mimosa apartment. Newly furnished with everything we required, an entrance foyer leading to a spacious, combined - lounge, bedroom, dining room and kitchen with a separate walk in robe and storage anteroom. A huge bathroom with French doors leading to terrace which we used a lot. The apartment was spotlessly clean.

The residence is perfectly situated in the centre of the town, a Carrefore supermarket 2 minutes walk and a laundrette 3 minutes walk away. Being in the centre of town with everything on the door step including restaurants and shops also comes with the hustle and bustle of a lively night life. Two of our 5 days were very noisy until late with tourists having a great time. The quaint Church bells playing the intro to Frere Jacques at 8 am every morning are so Italy. Just saying..... if you like your sleep.....

One of our best days was a day in Cannobio, check the fast ferry days and times.

Room Tip: Only mentioning this as I noticed someone else had a similar issue and perhaps an arrangement with m...

What to say about the location and room? Simply incredible!

Stresa Residence is located within the old city on a pedestrian way in the most famous and central point of Stresa. The bougainvillea room has a very romantic balcony looking at the main road seeing people passing by, or if you would require some more privacy, there is a huge veranda at the back. The room was one of our biggest surprises we had, modern with hidden furniture, one of the most comfortable beds, incredibly clean and spacious, a fully equipped kitchen (cutlers, etc.) even a dish washer!!! The owner is a perfectionist and highly professional, very friendly and accommodating.

Try the cappuccino and cookies (biscotti) at the Bar Jolly cafe adjacent to the Stresa Residence, and the best cappuccino in town at the Gigi Bar Hotel at the coastal road. Take the boat to Isola island and the other islands around and stop for lunch.

It is the best choice to stay in Stresa and we will surely come back again!!!

Room Tip: Definitely the bougainvillea room

We stayed in the Lavender apartment with 2 bedrooms on the top floor. Very clean, big bathrooms, all very mod. Right in the city centre with a wonderful restaurant next door (Mama Mias). We were all very impressed with this stay, rooms have a kitchen and fridge too. This room has a pleasant small balcony also. Stresa itself is a lovely little place (sort of an Italian Carmel).
Guiliano is very kind and was there to greet us, generally most helpful. Be aware there are 43 narrow stairs to this apartment but Guiliano lugged up our luggage ! One bedroom has a fold down wall bed but it gives you more room, beds are very comfortable. Highly recommended. It is hard to drive to in a pedestrian only area but you can get close by driving. Plenty of free parking nearby.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice. You need GPS to find this place. The street is via DOMENICO Otellini to acquire...

We had a great stay at Stresa Residence last week. The owner is really kind and generous and the apartment is superb. It has everything you need. We even got a baby bathtub for our 3 month old. The location is great. Only minus for us was that the 3 flights of stairs to the top apartment was cumbersome with the baby but should not be a problem for those without a stroller. The loft felt so bright and airy, the bed was comfy and everything is super clean. There's a Carrefour super market with fresh fruit/cheese/bread just minutes by foot away. We recommend also visiting Arona nearby for a day.

The restaurant underneath was a disappointment even though it was recommended to us by the owner. They were not kind when we asked for a table for 4 adults plus a pram. They looked at the pram and said no room but other patrons exiting said there was plenty. When they overheard us, the immediately changed their mind and something opened up. Go to Nonna Italia instead. I made a review on the restaurant and it was rejected saying it was not made by a "real traveller".

My husband and I based ourselves in Stresa for a 3 nights and stayed in one of Stresa Residence's apartments. The apartments are located in central Stresa along a pedestrianised street.

The apartment was huge - a couch folds out to a large double bed, well equipped kitchenette which included an assortment of teas. A large walk in wardrobe with safe & a massive bathroom with a balcony. The apartment was well decorated and well maintained - a home away from home.

There is no parking near the apartment, but Juliano will provide a map and information about free on street parking close to the apartment (Stresa is not massive anyway, so really only a short walk away). There is a supermarket about a 2 minute walk away, plenty of bars & restaurants nearby (Juliano is happy to help with recommendations) and the lake front is also a couple of minutes away.

Stresa is a great place to base yourself to explore Lake Maggiore & other nearby lakes - Lake Orta is tiny, but so beautiful. If you are in the area, do not overlook it.

We stayed at the top floor flat with 4 friends. The rooms were very clean, almost like we were the first people to stay there ever. Host Giuliono was very professional and friendly, helping us by mail before the trip and welcoming us to Stresa upon arrival.
The location was good, with nice restaurant nearby and a very short walk to see the amizing view of the lake.
Wi-Fi worked very nicely and was free.
We were there on low season, so it was very affordable, even cheap!

We highly recommend Stresa Residence!

Room Tip: You can choose from 3 flats depending of how many you are.
