“A Great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

My wife and myself, together with two friends have just returned from an eight day stay at the Hotel Beau Rivage in Bavino, Italy. The trip was organised by Travelsphere and our tour guide Debbie was an absolute gem throughout our stay. We and others valued not only her ability to assist with trips etc, but also her knowledge about the area and about local cultural norms. Debbie was extraordinary when along with hotel staff she, arranged medical assistance when my wife needed to be transported to hospital for treatment. Debbie was able to translate and also to advocate on behalf of my wife in order to ensure she received a good medical assessment. We were allocated room 209 and our friends were allocated room 208. The rooms were situated at the front of the hotel and were a reasonable size, although a little tired. It has to be said that we have never had such a comfortable nights sleep - the mattresses were superb, the only distraction being the road noise from the busy main road right at the front of the hotel. The noise can be reduced by closing the windows and using the air conditioning to circulate air into the room. Other reviewers have noted the road noise at the front of the hotel being an issue, the noise does reduce during the night though. The hotel staff were really warm and welcoming, and the reception staff dealt quickly with issues of concern. We needed extra pillows, and had a problem with the shower tray. The reception staff dealt with both matters very efficiently. This is despite operating a very busy hotel. The hotel has a beautifully situated swimming pool, accessible via an ascending path through a delightful well maintained garden area at the rear of the hotel. There is an area set aside with sun loungers and the pool is staffed by a lifeguard. Food at the hotel is very nicely prepared, and two choices of starters, main course and sweet of the day. Staff in the spacious dining rooms are pleasant and will change menu options if requested. The dining room manager Phillipe ensures cleanliness of utensils, dishes and table ware and a really high standard from staff. The bedroom linen and towels are changed daily and the rooms are clean. The bar area is very nicely situated and has lots of seating for chatting with a drink. Being central in Bavino, the hotel has lots of useful information about bus and boat timetables. Lots of places to eat, for that special panini our group of four recommends Bar L'in Contro just a five minute walk, near the ferry terminal.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel overlook the garden area and swimming pool and are quieter Rooms at...

We stayed here recently with Travelsphere and Lake Maggiore is stunning.
However our opinion of this hotel is the opposite.
Dining room - Inferior food served by indifferent staff whose mission seems to be to get you out pdq. On our first evening dinner was at 7, by 8 we had had 3 courses and the tables had been cleared. Someone had actually cut up scraps of paper 2 inches by 1 inch and stapled 7 together as vouchers for coffee or tea to be used in the bar up to 9.30 pm. There were so many unfriendly rules, cash only for drinks in the bar and restaurant, can't take your drinks from the bar into the restaurant, 3 euros per night for aircon. Breakfast was basic and we had no variation. (Tip: the next hotel down does a cooked breakfast for 8 euros and offered some of the group a deal for the week). Like many other in the group we ate out a lot.
Bedrooms - clean but "shabby-unchic" and had old tiny televisions. Tatty old furniture covered with threadbare tablecloths - why don't they just paint it all white?

Stayed for seven nights as part of Crystal holiday package. The hotel has a fantastic lakeside location approximately 50 meters away from bus stop and around 100 meters away from ferry terminal. lots of trips possible from Baveno very good destination for touring, excursions etc.
Good selection of bars cafes and a lakeside night club close by
Was not in tour party so were not restricted to dining times as last reviewer. Found staff friendly and helpful. Evening meal consisted of three courses waiter served. Food was good. Portions were not large but adequate. Breakfast was of the buffet variety but with different daily variations.
Rooms were a little on the tired side and probably resulted in the hotel being given a three star and not four. Rooms had both bath and shower, fridge and a very easy to operate safe which required a £10 refundable deposit.
Had a room to the rear which had a large balcony and a nice view of the garden and surrounding mountains.
Good location and good hotel

Room Tip: Rear for peace and quiet, front for lakeside view.

spent a week in this hotel which was booked by Travelsphere as part of a escorted tour.
on the plus side great location on lakeside and hotel had free wifi
on the minus side

Dining Room we were advised that we had to eat and sit at the same table each day morning and night
you cant take drinks from the bar into the restaurant -the bar closed at 10pm each night
you must pay for your drinks at the end of your meal
you cant charge your drink to your room
we only accept cash for drinks - credit and debit cards not acceptable
the food could be best described as Poor fare with a zero creativity level
after the second meal we stopped having dinner in the hotel
meal times for dinner were strictly controlled
staff in the restaurant were surly and the Restaurant manager could do with attending a course in interpersonal skills as groups wee very much made to feel like second class citizens to other guests in the restaurant

whilst the reception area looks well kept
the bedrooms are in need of a major makeover
they were tired and dated
to turn on the air conditioning you had to pay extra
no tea of coffee facility in the rooms vouchers instead to be redeemed in the bar area

would i recommend to anyone -sadly NO

Room Tip: rooms at back are quieter rooms on front noisy from road traffic

We stayed at the Beau Rivage on the side of Lake Maggiore for eight nights and had a most enjoyable. The staff were most helpful from early breakfast to late night bar. For example I had a problem picking up the free Wifi and inquired at reception not being well up in such things. The duty man configured my iPod to receive the hotel's dedicated WiFI and all was well. The breakfast was self service with no limits as to the amount of food available. The evening meal in our case, being on a coach tour, was chosen in the morning from a choice of two starters and mains. A little restrictive but in the main acceptable. The food, all three courses, was well cooked and served and sufficient for our needs. The room was clean and well looked after though we didn't have a view of the lake but this gave us a good excuse to visit the bar to have such a view.

We have enjoyed staying for a week in the Hotel Beau RIvage. The best feature of this hotel is its location. The views from the front of the hotel are stunning and it is a few minutes walk away from the ferries. You can take a ferry to different places around the lake, including Locarno in Switzerland at the northern end of the lake. The Borrowmean Islands can be seen clearly from the hotel and they are also accessible by the local ferries. You can purchase a ticket that allows you to hop on and off at all three islands for one day, if you wish. It takes a full day to explore all three properly. Isola Bella has a beautiful palace and stunning gardens to visit. Isola Superiore (or Pescatori) is the middle island and a great place to have your lunch. We ate at a charming restaurant called Il Covo dei Pirati where we were made to feel very welcome and ate a delicious meal whilst looking over towards Isola Madre. There are botanical gardens and a large villa to view on Isola Madre.

Hotel Beau Rivage is a friendly place to stay. The food was fine and compared favourably to other 3* Italian hotels that I have stayed in. The rooms were big enough but slightly clinical in apperance. We stayed in first floor rooms and we were not disturbed by traffic noise that other people have reported. You could hear some cars but the noise stopped through the night and I can't remember it waking me up in the morning at all. Overall, this hotel provided us with a good, inexpensive base for exploring the surrounding area.

Don't miss the cable car at Stresa or a visit to Zermatt to view the Matterhorn. A highlight for us was a trip on the Lake Maggiore Express, which includes getting on the train at Baveno, travelling up to Domodosolla and changing trains there for the panoramic train up to Locarno, and stopping for lunch in Locarno before taking the ferry back down the lake to Baveno.

Just returned from a fantastic week at the Hotel Beau Rivage Baveno. The Hotel is a very good base for visiting the various towns around the shores of Lago Maggiore, or just sitting on the promenade enjoying the sun. At this time of year the Summer Ferry service operates up to 65 boats a day until the middle of October.
We had a room on the Second floor with a view of the lake across the road, it can be a little noisy, but if the windows are closed and the air condition on there was no problem.
Our room was a little small but adequate and very clean. The towels were changed daily, they were the typical Italian honeycomb cotton but were adequate for a shower, and the bedding was changed regularly.
The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice, cold meats, cheeses, smoked salmon and bucks fizz, fruit juices, croissants, fresh strawberries, melon, cakes and self cooked boiled eggs, I must admit it took me a couple of days to get the timing right.. The coffee was good and the staff would make any coffee of your choice. Espresso, Cappuccino, etc.
We were Half Board and the evening meal was good, a large portion of excellent pasta or soup followed by a smaller meat or fish dish and a simple dessert.
All the staff were very helpful and were able to help with any queries.
We did not use the swimming pool, but used the facilities in the very pleasant garden.
The Hotel's drinks prices were fair, 1 Euro cheaper for orange juice and beer than the lakeside bars opposite.
A " must do" on a holiday in Baveno is to visit the 3 Borromean Islands, they are a joy especially Isola Pescatori and each one has a slightly different feel, and if you feel more adventurous you should try the Cento Valle trip by train to Locarno and return to Baveno by ferry.
The local bus service is quite cheap, but the service is a little infrequent. We took the bus to Lago Orta which is approx. 45 minutes from Baveno but only has 3 return trips a day. I suggest going on the morning service and returning on the 3 pm bus, costs only approx. 5 Euros return.
We went to Baveno with Thomson and the holiday was very enjoyable, the only problem was the mosquitos, they are the size of Jumbo Jets.
We will certainly consider returning for a future holiday
.

Room Tip: We Were in209, but 210 is larger and has a larger bathroom
