Wonderful hotel with the best staff we have ever met - they should run customer service courses here. The reception staff were fantastic, especially Sara, Samantha and Mette who I am sure is telepathic as she knew what we wanted as soon as we stepped out of the lift! Another thanks to Marcello, the cheeriest bellboy ever.

The hotel itself is old-world charming without being stuffy, and our large, spotlessly clean room (340) looked out over the pool, the lake and the Borromean islands. Twice during our visit we were treated to impromptu firework displays over the lake. Very special.

As we booked direct with hotel on a room-only basis we can't comment on the food, but the dining room looked gorgeous. We ate at local restaurants and can particularly recommend Sotto Sopre (about 2 mins walk from the hotel) which has a fantastic 20 Euro tourist menu where everything is home-made, right down to the complimentary bread rolls and bruschetta, to the most fantastic desserts (the warm dark chocolate cake with pears and homemade ice cream has to be one of the best things I have ever tasted).

The town of Baveno is very Italian, and although was fairly busy was much more authentic than neighbouring Stresa which was full of shops, restaurants, cafes and tourists!!

If we ever return to Lake Maggiore we would definitely stay at the Simplon. Grazie millie!!

very warm and friendly staff, nice rooms although ours were situated in the front of the hotel which is located right on the busy main road.
The walls are very thin so we could hear our next door neighbours - we asked to move a room and received a larger and quieter room.
Since it is part of the Zacchara chain hotel, we could use the pools and Jaccuzi of the next door hotel "Grand Dino" which are beautifull and located on the Majore lake. There is an interconnecting corridor which holds tens and tens of pictures by famous artists. The Simplon pool is beautiful and so are its gardens.
Very pricy dinner. Overall we enjoyed our vacation in this hotel very much

Room Tip: Take rooms that do not face the road and ask for the rooms with separate beds - they are larger.

Returned this week after 5 nights at the Simplon! We must add our excellent review of this hotel and especially the staff - together they are the best we have had for a very long time.

if you are looking for excellent, clean and spacious accommodation (we were family of 3) then look no futher. Our room was on the top floor (444) with a lake view and stair case to upper sleeping deck for 3 with lower deck for two in double sofa bed and two bathrooms - it was fabulous!

The food, service and elegance of the restaurant and attention to detail that the chain hotels do not offer was a welcome relief and although not cheap was we think value for money. We managed to book via Hotels.com and it included evening meal which was a 5 course delight each day.

The pool, the gallery walk way link to the Grand Dino busier sister hotel on the lake really worked for us, knowing that the calmness of the Simplon was a treat to go back to.

Well Done to the Simplon!

Room Tip: This hotel is cheaper than the Dino and much quieter - but you can use the services of the Dino as n...

We booked this hotel very late, and were delighted by almost everything we experienced. Baveno is quieter and smaller than Stresa, its larger near neighbour, and The Simplon is set back a little from Lake Maggiore, but that in no way detracts from its location. It is four minutes walk from the centre of the town and the ferry, four minutes from the nearest bus stop, and two minutes from the nearest supermarket. There are several restaurants within five minutes.
The hotel has superb gardens and a magnificent pool, and if you want a more peaceful situation, you can sit in the gardens away from the pool if you prefer, yet still be very close to the pool. We didn't once find the sun loungers over booked - there are loads of them.
The bedroom was excellent - we would certainly recommend a lake view, as that means you are not facing the main road. Our only complaint was the somewhat hard bed - if you like one, fine, if you prefer medium or soft, you might be disappointed, though we eventually got used to it.
The food was excellent. Breakfast buffet was very good indeed - always great scrambled and boiled eggs available, as well as loads of cold meats and cereals, and fresh orange juice. Dinner consists of 5 courses, with a buffet hors d'oeuvres which was excellent, followed by waiter service starter and main course, and finishing with an amazing choice of excellent desserts, and a great choice of cheeses. Service in the dining room was very good and friendly - neither too quick nor too slow.
Throughout the hotel the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Internet is charged for (always a gripe for me) but not too pricey. Just make sure you log out every time!
Only one other gripe - the drinks are too pricey, and as a result hardly anyone buys them in the hotel - they either go out to bars and restaurants, or to the nearby supermarket - they seem to be shooting themselves in the foot, and as a result you tend not to meet other people in the bar in the evening. Yet the wine prices in the dining room were good, and so were the wines.
Good points: Location, service, food, gardens and pool, friendly staff, rooms and bathrooms.
Not so good: Hard bed, bar prices.
Would we recommend this hotel to others? Most certainly

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view, and for a soft bed!

Before the start of the holidays we were a little concerned that the hotel would not match all the great reviews and we would be disappointed but I am extremely pleased to say it matched our expectations and more. The service was first class from everybody and as the week progressed and the staff got to know you, they became even friendlier. Very impressed with the reception staff who always knew our room number! It was our anniversary whilst we were there and despite it being a very busy time we were upgraded to a room with a balcony and side view of the lake which was wonderful and made the holiday just that little bit special. My only niggle was the prices of the drinks, wine 23 euros and water 4 euros so we had a drink with our meal then went to a local bar by the side of the lake where the wine was only 13 euros a bottle. If the hotel had made the price of the drinks more reasonable we would have stayed in. Perhaps something they might consider. Highly recommended hotel.

Room Tip: We had a room on the side (3rd floor) where we had a balcony that went round the corner enabling us...

After reading all the other reviews what more is there that we can add?Simply wonderful hotel, staff friendly and helpful, food out of this world, gardens and pool and hotel spotless as were all the places we visited. The waiters were very attentive and the service in the dining room faultless. We travelled with Thomsons and went on most of the excursions. The guide on all of them was Barbara who is a mine of information about all the places visited. I can recommend the Zermatt tour and Mount Rosa Macugnaga especially, although hope the cable car doesn't get stuck half way down as it did for us in Macugnaga (only for a couple of minutes but long enough to visualise climbing out of the top into another car!! There is a choice to take the chair lift which people said was stunning going over a waterfall and I wish we had chosen this and not the cable car but my courage failed me.We went on the Maggiore Express from Baveno to Domodossolla and then on the centovalli panoramic train to Locarno. From there take the boat to Ascona which is much nicer than Locarno and the boat will pick you up from there around 5.00pm and take you all the way back down the lake to Baveno... a lovely day with fantastic views. The travel agent in Baveno is very helpful and marked the ferries we needed to take to visit the islands. (The ferry timetable is a bit tricky) We will return to concentrate on the local areas in the not too distant future and will look no further than this hotel. People have mentioned the expensive drink which is why the bar is usually empty in most hotels but if yo0u want wine at dinner just make it last a couple of days.

Room Tip: If you don't want to pay for a lakeside room we had 322 which although was facing the road it al...

Have recently returned from a wonderful weeks stay at the Simplon in Baveno. This elegant hotel deserves all the plaudits it receives. The decor is exemplary, the staff are wonderful, the food exceptional and the location perfect.
The Hotel is located in a lovely park with a large well maintained swimming pool and within a short walk to the lakeside and ferry station.
As an added extra, one can access the sister Hotel Dino via a beautifully created art gallery tunnel, exhibiting over one hundred paintings.
The outdoor and indoor pools at the very large Hotel Dino are available to Simplon guests as are the extensive grounds adjoining the lake, however we were so pleased to have chosen the Simplon which could not be faulted.
A lakeside view is thoroughly recommended, our room on the 3rd floor was perfect.

Room Tip: Third Floor Lake View eg:- Room 334.
