“Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2012

Before the start of the holidays we were a little concerned that the hotel would not match all the great reviews and we would be disappointed but I am extremely pleased to say it matched our expectations and more. The service was first class from everybody and as the week progressed and the staff got to know you, they became even friendlier. Very impressed with the reception staff who always knew our room number! It was our anniversary whilst we were there and despite it being a very busy time we were upgraded to a room with a balcony and side view of the lake which was wonderful and made the holiday just that little bit special. My only niggle was the prices of the drinks, wine 23 euros and water 4 euros so we had a drink with our meal then went to a local bar by the side of the lake where the wine was only 13 euros a bottle. If the hotel had made the price of the drinks more reasonable we would have stayed in. Perhaps something they might consider. Highly recommended hotel.

Room Tip: We had a room on the side (3rd floor) where we had a balcony that went round the corner enabling us...

After reading all the other reviews what more is there that we can add?Simply wonderful hotel, staff friendly and helpful, food out of this world, gardens and pool and hotel spotless as were all the places we visited. The waiters were very attentive and the service in the dining room faultless. We travelled with Thomsons and went on most of the excursions. The guide on all of them was Barbara who is a mine of information about all the places visited. I can recommend the Zermatt tour and Mount Rosa Macugnaga especially, although hope the cable car doesn't get stuck half way down as it did for us in Macugnaga (only for a couple of minutes but long enough to visualise climbing out of the top into another car!! There is a choice to take the chair lift which people said was stunning going over a waterfall and I wish we had chosen this and not the cable car but my courage failed me.We went on the Maggiore Express from Baveno to Domodossolla and then on the centovalli panoramic train to Locarno. From there take the boat to Ascona which is much nicer than Locarno and the boat will pick you up from there around 5.00pm and take you all the way back down the lake to Baveno... a lovely day with fantastic views. The travel agent in Baveno is very helpful and marked the ferries we needed to take to visit the islands. (The ferry timetable is a bit tricky) We will return to concentrate on the local areas in the not too distant future and will look no further than this hotel. People have mentioned the expensive drink which is why the bar is usually empty in most hotels but if yo0u want wine at dinner just make it last a couple of days.

Room Tip: If you don't want to pay for a lakeside room we had 322 which although was facing the road it al...

Have recently returned from a wonderful weeks stay at the Simplon in Baveno. This elegant hotel deserves all the plaudits it receives. The decor is exemplary, the staff are wonderful, the food exceptional and the location perfect.
The Hotel is located in a lovely park with a large well maintained swimming pool and within a short walk to the lakeside and ferry station.
As an added extra, one can access the sister Hotel Dino via a beautifully created art gallery tunnel, exhibiting over one hundred paintings.
The outdoor and indoor pools at the very large Hotel Dino are available to Simplon guests as are the extensive grounds adjoining the lake, however we were so pleased to have chosen the Simplon which could not be faulted.
A lakeside view is thoroughly recommended, our room on the 3rd floor was perfect.

Room Tip: Third Floor Lake View eg:- Room 334.

This is a 4 star hotel which deserves 5! The service we received was outstanding. The reception staff could not have been more helpful, the dining room was superbly managed with fantastic silver service, the food was to die for (I am half a stone heavier to prove it) and our room was spacious with highly efficient air-conditioning. We wish we had been able to stay longer. However, having left wanting more, we will return.

Lovely hotel in a charming setting. Dining room is gorgeous and the food is wonderful. Staff was more than helpful. Just wish we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the lake and a balcony. The room we had was on two levels.

Have just returned from a weeks stay at the Simplon. The hotel is excellent in so many ways. Our room was really big and spacious and beautifully decorated. Large bathroom, with a rather strange fully opening door / window which created a room with a view, large TV and lots of wardrobe space and a balcony overlooking the gardens. Our room was on the ground floor next to the conference rooms, having read other reviews I feel we were very lucky.

The dining room had a great view over the pool and the mountains and the food was truely first class. A buffet to start and a slection main meals to choose from. Followed by a wide selection of desserts. The staff were extremely attentive and nothing was to much trouble.

The bar was a lovely place to relax but really quite expensive. Far cheaper to visit the supermarket just a few steps away from the hotel and bring back a bottle or two to enjoy on the balcony. Whilst I am discussing the supermarket, it is very reasonably priced and well stocked, often bought lots of goodies for out picnics.

The hotel cannot be faulted. It truely is a gem of a hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the few rooms on the ground floor by the conference rooms.

All that has been said about this place is true. Every member of staff is friendly and helpful. If you want something just ask. Good position except it's not on the Lakeside but 2 minutes walk away. Room very clean, quiet and comfortable. Go half board without any doubts - food is just about as good as it can get (bring loose fitting clothes as you won't want to leave anything) Other guests friendly too so good atmosphere. Pool great with plenty of sunbeds. Great view of the lake, islands and mountains.
Drinks, including water, very expensive. Go to supermarket across the road for that (0.22cents for 2ltrs as opposed to 3 euros for tiny bottle). Lovely bar down the road by the ferry terminal owned by friendly Italian lady called Vanda (who used to have a place in Fleet Street).

Room Tip: Lakeside view was nice.
