“GRAND EXPERIENCE IN A GRAND HOTEL”
Reviewed September 14, 2010

Beautiful hotel, beautiful setting on the edge of Lake Maggiore, and great staff. We stayed at the hotel for 1 week of a 2 week tour of the Italian Lake region during the last week of June. We would rate the hotel and the hotel restaurant as 5 star. The hotel staff always went the extra distance to be helpful. The hotel restaurant food and restaurant staff were outstanding. The only downside was the restaurant food was too good and made it very difficult to stay on a reasonable diet. Such a challenge to face each day. The grounds invite you to put aside cell phones and computers and relax and enjoy the scenery. The grounds include an indoor and outdoor pool. Another difficult decision. The risk of making such a glowing recommendation is that the hotel will become so popular that we won't be able to find a room when we want to return.

Globus Tours upgraded the group to the Grand Hotel Dino, which is 5 stars in my book! Beautifully decorated throughout--the rooms, the lobby, the spa area!! The best hotel during our 2-week tour of Italy. What a treat!!

It is a really nice 4* star Grand Hotel, recently refurbished. Staff is very friendly. The hotel is on the lake and has its own park with a swimming pool. An excellent place to relax 3-5 days. enjoy it!

my wife and i recently did a relaxed tour with cosmos starting and ending in this fab hotel, when we saw the hotel and it's setting we just wanted to stay there, the view over the lake was amazing and the hotels amenities were fantastic. if i have a complaint it is the choice of food but as we were on a cosmos tour we were bundled together on three tables in a corner of the restaurant which is the norm for tours but this is a minor gripe. if you are thinking of going to lake magiore try this hotel you will be amazed.

The Dino is fantastically located in beautiful Baveno on Lago Maggiore. Baveno itself is not as grand as its big sister Stresa down the road. But venture up into the Centro Storico, eat at the Nazionale and wander round the old church and you'll be charmed. There is a lovely little market in Oltrefiume behind Baveno on a Monday morning. Continue your walk up into the village and you'll find a typical little Italian village complete with a hidden away ristorante. As for the Dino - well the Zacchera family still run it to exacting standards with prices for food and drink to match. Having full size outdoor and indoor pools is a bonus when the weather turns ugly and there's even a little private beach to the lake in which you can enjoy a refreshing lake swim. Lake?Isole Borromeo view rooms are great - we had a corner suite and it was wonderful. But would it really hurt to have the ability to make a cup of coffee in the room....

The location is very convenient for walking along the lake and to the numerous eating places. Around the corner is a tiny pizza place where you can buy "to go" pizza. They have the best pizza in town! You won't go wrong with whichever you choose from their extensive menu. Two shops down is a gelato place, also with plenty of choices. Take your pizza and a drink to one of the benches along the lake; then go back for the gelato.

The hotel has an impressive facade and lobby, and the rooms are clean and spacious. I have had better breakfasts elsewhere though. The people at reception are unpleasant; they make you feel you are imposing on them. You should already have made up your mind which items to buy from their gift display windows before asking them to unlock these for you, otherwise they make you feel you are taking much of their time. They can use more smiles at this hotel.

Internet access is the most expensive I have encountered. You pay premium to connect your laptop, or they charge by the minute to use their "courtesy" desktop computer, which comes with a "Italian keyboard" very frustrating to figure out (even their staff were not knowledgeable).

While I liked their clean and spacious rooms, I do not relish staying at this hotel again. Their people can certainly put a damper on your day!

Stayed here late July/early August for one week with teenage children. Having read reviews, we opted for superior rooms which were available at a good rate including breakfast on the hotel's website. Most other hotels in the area werent offering a B&B rate and its worthwhile if you can get it. The breakfast was amazing with so much variety and there was never a problem with items not getting replaced. Breakfast could be eaten outside overlooking the lake which was delightful, apart from the people around us smoking which (as non smokers) we felt ruined our breakfast so we ate indoors most days. The hotel is very large in size, which might be a problem if you have walking difficulties. The two swimming pools were huge, the outdoor pool was pretty cold but lovely once you got used to it and the indoor pool was heated and neither pools were that busy so we could really swim. The garden area was tranquil, with plenty of sun loungers and a delightful view over the lake (which we swam in also). I thought the hotel reception staff were not over friendly but were efficient as were the dining room staff. We didnt eat at night in the hotel, instead choosing each night one of the local restaurants and we would highly recommend Restaurant Posta. Baveno is a nice town and was pleasant to stroll through in the evenings. Nearby Stresa is bigger and prettier with more to offer but the location of Hotel Dino is the selling point. There are lots of places to visit (Isola Bella etc) so days can be full if required or taken easy by the hotel pool. Would like to return one day to see more of the surrounding area.
