Went here purely as Baveno is fairly small & we were kind of out of season & some places shut on odd days & the reviews of the other restaurants were a little poor.
Despite a slow start (it appears most italians take their time anyway) it was all up hill from there. We decided to give the Chefs specials menu a go, which consisted of a bolognese pasta starter, escalope & potato main meal, pineapple cake dessert, with a bottle of water, after dinner coffee & a 1/4 of house wine.
All this was only 20 euros, so we presumed we'd only have a choice of water/coffee/wine, but that wasn't the case, we had them all. We also asked if we could exchange the dessert for another, as neither of us like pineapple & it was done without fuss or bother (as you sometimes get in uk restaurants)
We were equally surprised when we received a small welcome dish of spicy cocktail sausages wrapped in parma ham & covered with a warm honey sauce from the chef, completely free. The add ons didn't stop there, we also received a hot basket full of 5 different types of freshly made bread & before our coffee at the end of the meal, we were also given a plate of macaroons in 4 flavours, which were delicious, along with 4 chocolates to eat with our coffee.
The starter was quite large & absolutely delicious, the main course had 2 thin but deliciously moist escalopes, with seasoned roasted new potatoes & the tastier gravy ever & a decent amount of it too (i like my gravy!)
The puddings we halved, so we could try both, i had a nutella tiramisu, which sounds like an odd combo but it worked very well & the cream in it was lighter than air. My partner had a blood orange sorbet & it was just beyond amazing, so fruity, so refreshing & so delicious.
We couldn't fault the place at all, we left full, amazed & rating it as the best place we'd gone to in Baveno, we will certainly come back for more.
