“Great find in Baveno with delicious food and friendly service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2012

With a few restaurants in Baveno shut (being early March, we've visited a little pre-season!), tonight we stumbled across this delightful place on the main road through Baveno. We were initially the only guests in the restaurant but after about 8pm it literally filled up with locals (OK, maybe not local as such but Italian nonetheless so far more local than we were!).

We had a fillet steak and a pasta dish, both of which were perfectly cooked, full of taste and exquisitely presented. The pasta dish was also a very generous helping! The wine choice was also good as was the Sorbet I had for dessert which is the best I've ad to date and the bill was a steal at just over €50 for two main courses, one dessert, a bottle of wine and a bottle of water.

The decor is fabulous with really bold colours and design and the service from the lone waitress was friendly, prompt and really genuine. She spoke good English and made up for our total lack of Italian comprehension!

All in all, we're so glad we visited this lovely restaurant and can recommend it for it's ambience, service and above all, the taste and quality of its food.

“Very Good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2011

We tried this after consulting trip advisor. We have been living in the Lago Maggiore/ Stresa/Lesa/Arona area for 4 months and decided not to listen to the locals anymore. This restaurant was charming if not a bit eclectic in design. Hubby had a homemade tagliatele with black truffles - EXCELLENT- and I had s chicken dish which was delicious and had the most beautiful presentation I have seen in a long time. We had vegetables which were not on the menu - most of the restaurants do - you just have to ask. We had fresh spinach drenched in butter (kind of took the healthy part out of the green - but what the heck), grilled zuchinni and insalata di pomodoro. The service was OK, typical of Italy in that the servers ignore you for awhile until your eyes start giving them the evil eye!. But other than that, we will return without reservation.

Food well presented and delicious.
Good value for money.
Decor stunning only in Italy do you find this use of bold colours.

“Uncomfortable outside seating but food was good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2011

We only visited once and, I have to admit, it was one of those occasions where 'first impressions' have stuck with me.
We sat outside in the courtyard area. There's no view to speak of and the thing I didn't like was that to squeeze more people in the seating was arranged so virtually everyone was facing the same way. Instead of sitting opposite your partner you'll find yourself sitting next to them (at 90 degrees) and either be looking at the backs of the people on the table in front, or feel the stare from the people behind. It didn't help that a table next to us had two women seemingly racing each other to an early grave by smoking cigarettes at a rate that might be considered a fire risk!
Anyway, that will be my overriding memory of this restaurant, that it wasn't a comfortable place to be. But, on the plus side, the food was very good (if a little fussy) and seemed to be freshly prepared. No problem with the service either.
My only criticism on the culinary side was that the house wine was one of the more disappointing we tried.
