This is a lovely family run hotel in Sirmione. All guests receive a warm welcome here and the atmosphere is homely and friendly - we loved it!

Rooms - there are 32 rooms in the hotel in 2 builings side by side. Our room had a lovely large comfortable bed, plenty of drawer and wardrobe space for all of your things, nice bathroom and all in good decorative order. Free safe (a rarety nowadays) and also free WiFi, and the quietest aircon that I have ever come accross. Our towels were changed everyday - yes they are like giant tea towels but this is commonplace all over Italy and not just this hotel - and they work just as well as our more familier terry towels! The maids do a fantastic job and the rooms are spotless. All of the poeple that we spoke with were very happy with their rooms too.

Food - Absolutely fantastic! Continental type breakfast buffet with cerials, fruit, yoghurt, bread cheeses and meats, fantastic pastries and cakes - you can also have scrambled or fried eggs to order. Lovely coffee too which sets you up for the day. Evening meal is 4 courses which you choose at breakfast time - generally a salad, then pasta dish, then meat or fish dish and finally a desert, the latter you choose on the night. Everything is homemade as far as possible and is delicious! My husband must have gluten free food and they made special bread and cakes for him - the hotel owner is also coeliac and appreciated his needs and catered accordingly. If anyone staying at the hotel had any special diet requests (vegetarian, dairy free etc), they can offer you dishes to suit - maybe warn them in advance of your arrival if you can.

Pool and beach - a lovely pool at the side of the hotel, well maintained and very inviting and refreshing. The private beach area has many sun loungers, chairs and parasols. For those seeking a relaxing time this is idyllic as it's generally peaceful and quiet - no blaring music - bliss! There is a pool bar serving drinks and cakes / pastries in the afternoon. The dining area is also open at lunch time for pasta and salads.

The staff - what makes this hotel stand out is the service that you receive from the staff. Each and every person is pleasant, friendly, helpful and treat you with the utmost respect. As this is a smaller family run business, the personal touch shines through. You are treated like royalty and nothing is too much trouble.

Who would I recommend this to - anyone seeking a relaxing holiday in the Lake Garda region, couples of all ages, groups of friends, families with older children (not much for the younger ones to do), singles wishing to get away from it all.

Nor suitable for- anyone wanting an 18-30 type experience.

We travelled with Inghams ( for the first time) and they were great, our rep was Heather and she was wonderful, a mine of information and looked after us well. There were also independant travellers and many guests had driven their own vehicles. Ample parking for your own or hire car.

Room Tip: If you have special requests - ie. bath rather than shower, or twin beds rather than double thencont...

I will state straight away that this is not somewhere for anyone looking to have a wild party holiday, that said my husband and I are both 32 and loved both this hotel and Sirmione.
We were looking for relaxing holiday to enjoy chilling out and having some good food and drink, this did not disappoint.

I am Vegetarian and my husband doesn't eat cheese so a lot of the menu at the hotel was tricky. On the first day I explained to the staff and was told that I could order anything I liked for dinner and they would be happy to make it for me. After the first day or 2 all the staff remembered not to include cheese on my husbands meals and I was very impressed with the food.
The hotel is very clean and tidy and you get free Wifi in your room which is nice.
The staff here really couldn't do enough for us and were all very friendly, even the wee cleaning lady gave us a cheery hello every morning.
There were beautiful views of the lake and a private little beach which goes right down to the lake along with a separate swimming pool which was fabulous.
We were even invited down to the beach bar for complimentary drinks and snacks on one of the evenings while we were there, lots of free prosecco :D
I really can't stress enough how clean the hotel was and how amazing the staff were, didn't really want to come home after our stay there.

This is a real gem of an Italian hotel.
The staff all work very hard together to make your visit as memorable and pleasurable as possible.
The Sunday evening BBQ is a magical event not to be missed, the main course is a good carnivorous BBQ. The extensive hand made deserts were a real joy to behold. The hours of effort put in to produce such a truly amazing spread was astounding. I particularly enjoyed the bananas dipped in chocolate.
The air conditioning is time limited from 14:00 in the afternoon to 09:00 the next morning. Having a chilled bedroom to sleep in really helps when the daytime temperatures were hitting 36C and above.
The swimming pool is clean and a pleasure to swim in. Some people swam in the lake, I preferred the pool.
Walking in to town takes about 15 mins. The hotel offers free bike hire, which cuts the journey time to less than 5 mins.
The hotel offers free Wifi, at times it was rather slow but I suspect that it was just being heavily used by other guests. It works fine for light web surfing but don't try downloading any big apps or streaming movies.
We stayed half board, we went to Venice for a very long day and missed our evening meal so the hotel kindly allowed us to have lunch the next day instead.
Sirmione is a mature resort, it has a lovely castle and an impressive extensive Roman Ruin. The Hotel is well suited to more mature tourist. Teenage guests looking to party all night will be disappointed.
At the end of our stay we were supremly delighted and satisfied with this hotel and found NOTHING to complain about. We have nothing but praise for this excellent hotel and their outstanding staff!

I felt it necessary to write a review on this hotel as we stayed here due to the fantastic reviews and really our review is more about Sirmione than the hotel itself.

Positive - The hotel was very clean and well cared for. The private beach is nice, the free bikes were great and the women of the family are very friendly and helpful.

Negatives - THIS IS NOT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE! We arrived at about 3pm after a difficult drive with a lot of traffic, I could not wait to get to the pool and have a drink and a sandwich... although no food is served at the pool apart from cake at tea time! There is no music or atmosphere and the average age is about 65. We were told to walk to the nearest shop which was almost a kilometer away with a like it or lump it attitude, why they couldn't pop into the kitchen and fix us a sandwich I do not know. We were greeted with the same attitude when we asked why there was only 1 english channel on the sattelite TV ( although this is an Italian thing ). So I thought we would watch a film on our i-pad in the room, nope. You cannot get internet in the room and when we asked about the owner shrugged his shoulders at us and turned his back, you can only get WiFi in the lobby. They are also very strict on times for dinner and breakfast ( there is no lunch ) and for a hotel that caters for vegetarians we appreciated the tin of tuna at breakfast but as far as they are concerned you get what you are given at dinner... 2 meat courses... and again the same attitude. Not a hint of " I am sure chef can knock up a vegetarian option "

We did not enjoy our stay here. There is no feel of Italy in Sirmione, it is more like a giant retirement village in Florida. If you want to sit and play bridge and go to bed early then it will be perfect, if you like good food and any kind of atmosphere at night do not stay here or anywhere in Sirmione! We did not even have a light on our balcony so we could sit there in the evenings, probably because of the lake flies but also so we do not keep the other residents up after dark.

We are not massive party people, our days like that are behind us, but we are thirty somethings on holiday and neither Hotel Du Lac offered anything entertaining or of value.

Room Tip: The rooms without lake view are just as nice as lake view ones and they all have balconies where you...

We have just returned from one of our best holidays. Not ones for sunshine holidays we thought this year we would like to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary doing something different. we asked some friends to come with us . The Hotel Du Lac certainly lived up to expectations , the rooms are cool clean and very comfy, the staff are all very friendly efficient and helpful. looked forward to every meal and on our anniversary there was a greeting and some bubbly. all in all a great hotel which deserves a 4 star rating and we will be returning. our friends will be coming also.

Room Tip: ask for lake view or side lake view

We were on a driving trip through Europe and stopped at the lake for one night. We chose this hotel because it was close to the water, had an elevator (my parents were with us and they have trouble climbing stairs), and had a/c. The parking was incredibly convenient - right by the hotel; the breakfast is served outside with a view of the lake - I don't remember how good breakfast was or wasn't because I was so enthralled with the view; and service was excellent. The woman at the desk when we checked in was friendly and welcoming and sent someone to help with the luggage. The same man who helped us get the luggage to the room saw me wheeling my suitcase down the hall the next morning and insisted on taking my luggage for me (really - I tried to do it myself and he was insistent, as he was ten minutes later when he saw me wheeling my parents' luggage through the hall and insisted on taking it!). One flaw - the a/c in our room was not working and they could not get it to work while we were there. They were highly apologetic and they did bring us a fan which helped, especially because we could not keep the windows open in the evening because of the tiny bugs that will come in the room.

The rooms are not the most up to date nor are the bathrooms but they were clean and comfortable. Our room had a view of the lake and a tub with shower in it. My parents' room did not have a view and had a stand-up shower. The towels are indeed odd - made of tea towel material, not terry cloth (which I would prefer). It is not a luxurious room but it was comfortable. When we left the hotel the next morning my father thought he had lost his ring and I went back in to the hotel to ask them to look for it in his room. I watched as the maid and bellman tore the room apart looking for it- they left no stone unturned. I also saw that the room was also clean under the bed and furniture! Fortunately he found his ring in the car but I appreciate their efforts to locate it.

I'd stay here again if I were visiting. The staff was wonderful and the price reasonable.
