Hubby and I are just back from a six day stay in Italy - we started in Venice for two nights, then Verona for one night and finally two nights at the Eden Hotel in Sirmione - and what a perfect way to end a busy short break! We booked a balcony room and were situated in room 207 which overlooked the Lake and provided us with stunning views from the moment we woke up. The hotel is situated in a busy and popular part of Sirmione but is an oasis away from the crowds. The gardens are beautifully laid out and peaceful and the decking area perfect for a lazy sunny afternoon people watching as the boats arrive throughout the day and early evening but surprisingly are not intrusive or annoying in any way. The hotel is 70s art deco designed and our room was light and airy and the bathroom well laid out. The breakfast room is at the back of the hotel and overlooks the lake and is again beautifully decorated and light and sunny. Breakfast is a selection of pastries, bread and toast, fresh fruit and yogurts, boiled and scrambled eggs and bacon and small smoked sausages. There is a selection of juices, jams and honey and fresh coffee and a selection of teas and fruit teas. The staff are extremely helpful and nothing is too much bother for them. We drove to the hotel and negotiating the streets in Sirmione to the hotel can be hair raising to say the least but we were lucky and had a Fiat 500 - we followed an Audi A6 into the town and it was an extremely tight squeeze! We were able to park in one of the three parking spaces outside the hotel but they also have a garage in which you can park at a cost of 10 Euros per night. Sirmione is beautiful and I can recommend a private boat trip around the island which cost 50 Euros for a 30 minute trip but is well worth it as you see the island from another view and get to see the thermal waters which are fed to three of the hotels in Sirmione and also to go under the bridges of the castle. The shower was hot immediately and I must admit the complimentary soaps etc were some of the nicest smelling I have come across and free slippers is not to be sniffed at! The only criticism I could make is the air conditioning which was a bit weak and when we were there (14th to 16th April 2013) the temperature was around 27 degrees, which made sitting in the room without the balcony door being open uncomfortable - could see this being a problem in the height of summer. Gorgeous shops, great choice of restaurants offering a variety of meals at prices to suit all pockets, great ice cream, lovely walks and "beach areas" - Sirmione is a real gem.
