We, are group of 6 mums, had 3 nights in this resort. It's situated up a mountain with absolutely nothing around apart from one restaurant but superb views. In fact the views were the best thing.

We arrived in a taxi from Varenna, called for us by an extremely helpful shopkeeper, Marco was the driver and was punctual and a really nice guy, he even gave us a list of ferry times.

We arrived and were greeted by a young girl from America who had been working there since May. We were very impressed by the gardens and as said before views over Lake Como. However, it all started to go down hill from there as we were in 2 separate houses, which we knew, but they had allocated one house on the resort and one in the village. Now we realise that we had chosen these houses at time of booking but we were unaware that the houses were in separate areas as this was not shown anywhere on the booking. To be honest I would have expected an e-mail from the resort checking if this would be ok as it was one booking. When we asked if we could be put nearer to each other we were informed that there was no availability, so ok our mistake.

We then found out that although the resort is advertised with 3 swimming pools only one can be used for the majority of the guests as the other 2 are for individual houses. We only saw 1 of the other pools used 1 time while we were there. We had to go and ask for pool towels which should have been given to us on arrival.

When we went to use the pool and have a relaxing day we realised that there were only 10 sunloungers available with 7 in use which left 3 sunloungers for 6 people! goodness only knows what would have happened if more guests had wanted to use the pool at the same time. Again we went to the office to be told that the girl would check in the garage but didn't know when as she was on her own. To cut a long story short we asked if there were any cushions that go on the sunloungers that we could use and just put on the floor. She was not very pleased in going to check but came back with 3 that we had to carry ourselves to the pool, which we weren't impressed with as literally 2 minutes later she went passed us in a golf buggy that could have taken the cushions on.

There was free wi-fi in the resort which worked fairly well but none in the village house and also no phone in the village house to be able to get in touch with the reception if needed. Also there was no outside sitting area in the village house only in the resort.

The houses themselves were lovely, clean and spacious. There was no maid service, making beds etc which we did ourselves, not that big a deal just to let you know really.

Varenna itself is lovely but apart from restaurants and a tiny grocers nothing there, if you want more life and shops stay in Bellagio. The walk down the mountain is said to take 15 minutes when in reality it takes 35, and were are all fairly fit, we definitely did not try and climb back up!

We all got bitten, a lot, so make sure you take repellent.

Use Marco for taxis, he's punctual and friendly.

We booked a 3 bed villa and a 2 bed apartment for our guests at our wedding in varenna this august. We booked loads of other accomodation too. Last weekend we checked out all our accomodation for our guests. The 3 bed villa is not in the complex it was on a very narrow street outside the complex which leads to a rather empty isolated with little or no facilities. The apartment was the same. We rang to complain our guests wanted access to the pool as we are only there for a weekend. We were told its a 30 second walk to the pool. As the crow flys and down a narrow street. We emailed for photos and are disgusted and shocked at the villas we paid so costly for. When we rang to say these are not the photos you put up on your website we were told oh we have loads of different accomodation but the crockery in yours is lovely. Crockery???? There is no shops nearby to buy supplies to even make use of them. Both the accomodations are bland and bunk beds in one which we had couples in. The contact number would not answer when we rang numerous times and my hubbie to be had to private message her to get her mobile number. Her name was Manuella i think. Id recommend checking carefully. Its not a ten minute walk to varenna. Downhill which is extremely steep and not for the faint hearted takes over 15/20minutes and up probably half an hr to 45 minutes. Min €15 in a taxi to get down the hill to Varenna town. My advice is ask the name of the villa you book and google. Shortly after you book you may be messaged advising you, you are been allocated somewhere else. Tread carefully. We are currently in contact with the booking agent who is investigating the pictures displayed on website.

Agriturismo is a great spot to unwind after adventures in Milan. We stayed one night in Varenna then moved to the hilltop at Agriturismo. I was a perfect end to a perfect vacation. We enjoyed spectacular sunsets from the small detached patio at the edge of the bluff and nearly exclusive use of the bluff side pool during the start of the off season. Access to Varenna is via taxi (about 15EU one way) or by rigorous footpath (uphill at least) so plan your visit accordingly. Vezio is small but charming and we frequented the one restaurant in town 3 times. Met some great people there and enjoyed the local cuisine.

Room tip: Stayed in main building spacious suite bottom floor with patio off the great lawn. Larger groups should consider renting one of many villas.

The real charm about this place is the location high above the lake with large outdoor areas overseeing the lake. Plenty of space for all guests. Houses are well spaced to allow full privacy, and they are beautifully and modern equipped to make fully functional holiday houses. Only small complaint is that the bed was rather hard, a top mattress would have been nice.
