This hotel is in a fantastic location right on Lake Como and within walking distance from the train station. Our room was clean and comfy (I had a fantasic nights sleep) and had an amazing view of the lake and mountains that you could see every day and never cease to be amazed by. The dinner was wonderful and our hostess very friendly.
So we are finding it very hard to put our finger on why we didnt love this hotel. There is just something in the little details that didnt make us really excited about the place. As a previous revewier said we didnt get that warm and fuzzy feeling.
Little things included when the electric went in our room and we were told where the fuseboard was so we could fix it rather than the staff doing this. Or not being told where things were in the hotel (we never found out if there were any areas we could go in other than the restaurant) or what time for dinner/breakfast. Also the restaurant only had a few people in when we were there but there is no music so we were aware that we could hear other people's conversations/they could hear us. Various other things like this.
We do think that this is a good hotel but we feel we have stayed in better for less money. A little more attention to detail and it could be fantastic.

I saw the hotel from the street above coming from Varenna... I thought: THERE. That is the place. Me and my wife where searching for a little dream... we want to wake up in the morning with a stunning view on the lake. That was. AMAZING. Miss Laura were super kindly and the breakfast really good. It was a really cold and windy night but we can imagine, and we want to come back, what that place is in spring, in late afternoons with a smelly air and a pastisse with ice under that beautiful veranda with flowers and magic lake. Thank you.

We have been looking to purchase a property around Lake Como. This time of year there is very limited availability of rooms but Olivedo proved to be a perfect place to explore the lake. Our room was very comfortable with a modern bathroom/shower. We had dinner one night which was excellent. We are already booked in again as we continue our search.

Room Tip: Rooms 12 and 15 are large and have views over the lake

The Hotel Olivedo has been family owned for generations, and it shows. The hostess, Laura, was born and raised in the town, and she knows thoroughly knows both the area and the profession of hotel manager. She is attentive without being intrusive. She gently guided us against ordering a "local speciality" on the menu that she implied was really not that good.

The hotel itself is quirky. The elevator is very small, too small for two people & lots of luggage. The top floor, where we stayed, had small windows very close to the ceiling. Not ideal for lounging on a bed and looking at the window, but that wasn't on our agenda.

The hotel is conveniently located right next to the ferry dock. This was quite nice, allowing us flexibility in planning trips around the lake. On a more negative note, the hotel is located very close to a little public park, where loud bands of questionable musicianship performed for a couple of nights running. This was a bit unpleasant, but it was no reflection on the hotel. Laura didn't like it either.

In short, I can recommend this hotel unreservedly.

Room Tip: Don't get a room on the top floor unless you are OK tackling several flights of stairs. The elevator is slow & small.

Stayed here just one night and was surprisingly impressed. The hotel is beautifully renovated with reproduction and antique pieces and the village is charming and interesting, also with just the right mix of modernity and history. Hard to be critical but if I had to I could smell some smoke when I walked in and the bathroom fan was hard-wired which was irritating. Soup for dinner and coffee with breakfast was perfect and particularly economical.
