“Beautiful garden”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

We arrived to Varrena from Milan (1 day trip to Lake Como) in March. We were really lucky with the wheather it was almost summer-time with 19 C degree. You need to visit the garden of Villa Monastero when you have nice wheather (the entrance is from the "main" street, just opposite to a parking house (we missed it firstly). The entry fee is 5 EUR to the garden. It is huge, with lot kind of plants (orange tree with fruits in March :-) , statues, fountains and you can take amazing photos from the coast. I really recommend it.

“My Favorite: Villa Monastero”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

There are many reasons to visit Lake Como. High on my list is Villa Monastero, which I have visited three times over the years. I am a photographer, and it is one of my favorite places to capture beautiful images. And it is very inexpensive to visit. Take your time, take pictures, and walk all the way to end, where you will keep discovering more aspects of its charm.

“A magical garden”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

This is a former church property that now is open to the public. The grounds, which border Lake Como, are just stunning. Giant magnolia trees. Huge agave plants. A dozen different types of citrus trees. It's a wonderful place for a quiet walk, a place to contemplate the beauty of the lake and the wonders of the natural world.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

Villa Monastero is beautiful, to say the least. The extent of the gardens is fantastic, and they are extremely well kept. There is also a small coffee shop in the gardens for a drink while you walk. There are statues and many amazing sculptures. It is easy to spend hours in the shade of the trees, taking in the view of the lake. Definitely worth a visit.

“Most Beautiful Spot in Varenna”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

We walked to the Villa and bought a ticket just for the gardens as others indicated the inside of the Villa was not worth the fee. We probably spent two hours walking the trails, taking photos and just sitting in the beautiful and well cared for gardens. There is a small coffee shop in the gardens but it was easy to pass up. If you like beautiful landscaping and sculptures be sure to add this to your itinerary.
