This a beautiful place to walk and see the native plants. It's quiet, the villa itself is very fun to wander around, friendly people everywhere.

It was very hot when I travelled to Varenna and I found these gardens had lots of cool shady areas to while away the hours by the lake. The house is fascinating - definitely worth a look round. There is a cafe in the gardens which is reasonable and does good Italian food. I could spend the day there just relaxing.

We were staying in Varenna and Villa Monastero was a highlight of our time at Lake Como. We visited first thing in the morning, and had the gardens to ourselves - the views were stunning and the gardens were lovely. We particularly enjoyed visiting the house (used the audio guide), and preferred it to Villa Carlotta as it was furnished in the original style and so it was easier to imagine it as a home. Highly recommended!

We stumbled across this place on the tourist Map from the information centre, having walked along the beautiful lovers walk we continued along to the villa not sure what to expect. Now i love looking at nice gardens but im not an obsessive plants person. The gardens are spectacular more because of the views than planting. The gardens hug the lake and are narrow but make the most of the spectacular views. My husband is not a gardener or garden visitor but loved these gardens a they truly make the most of their setting. We didn't visit the house at all but spent about an hour in the garden. For me the setting was more lovely than Carlotta or meltzi although babinello has to outrank as the package of house, gardens and setting are so lovely. This however comes in a charming second.

Excellent destination in Varenna on a hot day. Lots of shady spots to sit and take in the garden and views. Very cool old statues and water features. We did garden only, 5 Euro. Villa looked interesting tho.
