I stayed at this hotel for two nights and I was pleased with it. The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from Giovanni station and a few minutes' walk from the lake and the main square.

The room is on the small size and the bathroom was large considering the size of the room. In order for the air conditioning to work, one must close the windows entirely. The continental breakfasts they serve are decent.

Stayed here for one night in March 2009. Located half way between San Giovanni railway station and main square - about 500 metres each direction. Boutique style hotel with friendly staff. Rooms are small but comfortable with tasteful good quality decor and fittings. Breakfast included in rate and it is usual continental style served in small breakfast room. Internet available but wasn't working night we were there.
Would recommed to anyone looking for modest centrally located hotel in Como.

We stayed at Plinius at the end of our 18 day trip around Italy. We were there for 4 nights. The hotel is in a good location, it is clean, the staff seemed friendly and helpful. However, the rooms are quite small and the air conditioning in our room was not working properly. We asked about it several times and it was never fixed. It was nice and cool in the hallway, but our room was much, much warmer and was quite frustrating trying to sleep at night when its warm in the room.

Another problem is that you could hear everything in the rooms from outside. This wasn't really a problem on the nights during the week because there were not too many people out and about, but Saturday night was definitely a lot louder outside well into the late night because it was a lot busier and lot of young kids around. Made it a bit harder to sleep, but I wouldn't say it was awful.

The breakfast in the morning was good, had a decent selection. I'm not a big breakfast person, but my husband was down there almost every morning enjoying the breakfast.

I think if the rooms were comfortable as far as having some air conditioning and/or fresh air (we couldn't open the windows), it would have been a much better stay.

The hotel has an excellent location. the roooms are abit on the small side. the hotel web site is ait misleading as some of the pictures are not of the hotel but in the surrounding area. We stayed for 1 night and it was adequate. We had not been to Como before, so if we return we would book other hotels, but The Pllinius suited our needs for this trip. The breakfast was not good though.

Como Lake (Lago di Como) was our (me & my wife) third step of our trip in Italy, after Rome and Florence. Hotel Plinius where we spent 5 nights, is one of the small, clean and well placed hotels in Como. The stuff is young and very helpfull. But kowledge of foreign language is a common problem in Italy i thik. Because we could find nobody who can talk french with us. We was starting in french, going on in english and ending in italian!! If i come in Como again, i may prefer to stay in Hotel Plinius for the second time. By the way Bellagio and Lecco are main places to see first around the lake i guess.

I have just back from a leisure holiday with my wife on the wonderful Como lake. We decided to choose Como as starting point of a three full days trip on the Como lake with a short visit to Lugano. The hotel is perfectly situated in the town center, at easy walking distance from the lake, the shopping area, the wonderful Cathedral, restaurants and post office. Hotel is very clean with lift we got a nice double room on 2nd floor, modern bathroom with shower, good breakfast (for an Italian), friendly and young staff.
Drawbacks: you could hear all noises coming from the street despite Como is a very quiet town and there are no discos or pubs around the hotel. Our room was hot, we thought it might depend on the heating. The reception told us that some rooms are hot, some are cold, depending on the central sysyem. They know that customers complain about it but no solution at the moment. Last drawback is that the hotel has no parking. If you arrive by car you have to pay €1.00 per hour in the blue stripes (from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. except Sundays and holidays) or looking for a cheaper parking (€0.50 per hour).
