Just a bit of background info: before we came across Bar Umberto I, i hadn't been able to eat or drink for 36 hours, so initially we just wanted to test my condition having a glass of nice red local wine.
The bar is just across the railway "station", actually just one track and a single train. As is the "bus station", just three or four buses going around the beautiful lake Como. First we decided to have just a drink on their nice terrace but went inside because of the smoking and the weather being quite chilly.
Ok, so the wine was very decent and the clientele was just locals, so we decided to sample the gentlest of pasta options for someone who hadn't had a bite for a day and a half. Oh my dear, the tortellini with cream and ham was absolutely out of this world :) Fresh and just perfectly cooked, tasty and creamy.
My husband had the lasagna, equally fresh and the ragu was delicious.
For two drinks and two pastas the bill was barely 30€. And I must stress the fact that on busy lunch time we were the only tourists in the bar. The locals clearly know where to go for a good meal.
We would gladly return, if only for a day trip :)
