The location of this hotel warrants the price they charge. So the real value is in their service and friendliness. The rooms are somewhat tight, but that can be expected in an older hotel adding a king bed. Great value. We will definitely go back.

From the moment we arrived at the airport we were made to feel welcome by the hotels friendly driver Marco. He spoke very good English and pointed out the sights to see.
On arrival at the hotel the receptionist Marcello also spoke very good English and made us feel very welcome suggesting places to eat for various specialities (very helpful).
The room was a bit dated and only 1 channel of English TV but this shouldn't be a problem as we were on honeymoon and there to escape all that. The hotel knew it was our honeymoon prior to arrival and we had a personal letter from Robert, the manager, along with a bottle of champagne and complimentary breakfast in our room. That was a nice touch.
We ate in the Garden Bar and restaurant which is part of the hotel a couple of times and Antonio was very attentive and service was great.
The hotel was lovely and all staff were very friendly and helpful. It was situated on Lake Como providing an excellent view of the lake and snow capped mountains. I would recommend it to friends.
Thank you to all at the Palace

" In the midst of these magnificent hills, gently descending into the lake with bizzare slopes. I can delude myself of being in the places described by the Italian poets Tasso and Ariosto. Here all is noble and gracious, everything talks of love". STENDHAL

This is how the famous author described the town of Como in 1817.

Just 1 hr drive from Milan, Como is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, historical villas with picturesque gardens which have inspired great men who lived here like Stendhal, Manzoni etc and featured Como countless times in their work.( Probably this is the reason why Hollywood star George Clooney has bought one of those villas and resides nearby the recent years!! )

Located just in the centre of Como, the PALACE is an old, charming 4 stars hotel. It is close to all the attractions in Como and it is an easy access to the waterfront, the shopping area and restaurants( lovely Italian taverns called " Crotti" ). Only about 100 m from the ferry-terminal so you can easily visit the other towns of the lake.
The ROOM was spacious and airy, with elegant fabrics, comfortable with a balcony and a lake-view and really very clean. The STAFF was excellent, extremely helpful and friendly.
The buffet-BREAKFAST was very good served in the splendid MAGNA Hall with its antique splendour. For the ice-cream lovers the BAR also serves delicious ice-creams,pizzas and pancakes. The RESTAURANT serves tasteful traditional Italian dishes.

Como is the home of silk in Italy : excellent ties, scarves etc so pay a visit to all those boutiques in the centre but before any decision please visit " La Tessitura" ( or the designer outlet " Fox Town" in the nearby Swiss city of Mendrisio) it is worth it.

You have 2 possibilities to admire the stunning scenery of Como :
- Take the funicular up to BRUNATE. It will give you an impressive view from above.
- Take a boat-trip on the lake .

The PALACE HOTEL is highly recommended and a great value ( 150 Euros p/p in a deluxe room) as well as Como for a quiet, romantic weekend. Every time I visit it I find it different but always familiar!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a lake-view or a deluxe room in the 3rd floor.

We were stunned at the beauty of this lovely old building, and were so lucky to arrive on a beautiful hot summer day and the short walk from the station to arrive at this hotel and be greeted by friendly, helpful and charming staff was a delight.

Our two rooms were amazing, both with a small balcony over the front of the building and with the most incredible views over Lake Como and up to the mountains.

The restaurant was able to accommodate our request for an outside table, and the gardens were lit up with small lights and the food was excellent. The staff were helpful with a menu choice for a fussy 5 year old and the wine was excellent and not over-priced.

Although more expensive, I would suggest if your budget allows you book 'a room with a view', and do have breakfast as it is served buffet style in a stunning banqueting hall which is like stepping back in time - but in a good way!

Stunning hotel, amazing rooms, excellent food and great staff. We were given maps with highlighted areas of places to visit and even given a top tip about ensuring we had swimming hats before going to the lido (no hat = no swim!). Personally, I felt the hotel was too large for a long holiday, but for a few nights stay it is ideal.

Would just love to go back ....

Room Tip: Spend more, ask for a lake view and ideally a balcony to sit outside with a room service tea/coffee...

My friend and I stayed at this hotel in April 2012. We found the location ideal as it was easy to visit the town and equally easy to take a ferry to other parts of the lake. The breakfast room was lovely and the breakfast buffet was the usual spread and a good selection-but the coffee was awful!
The staff were helpful and friendly. We were provided with brollies for the rain.
In the evening the bar was dead so we went for a short walk to some of the cafes which were excellent.
I would stay at this hotel again and might even pay extra for a view. In April Como was lovely. It was just before Easter and we were amused to see two live baby rabbits in a wide cage on top of a table in a corridor just outside the dining room for children to see. It said not to touch , but everyone picked them up.

Room Tip: We were given a room with no view apart from a wall. The room was huge but too dull for our taste.We...

My husband and I stayed at the Palace Hotel for 2 nights in mid October 2012. The hotel looked beautiful and grand from the outside. The room itself was large, and it had an amazing view of the lake which was a dream to wake up to. However I do agree with other reviews about the rooms being a bit dated. We didn't find it a problem though and it did not have a negative impact on our stay. The breakfast provided was great - and very busy each morning of our stay.
The location is perfect, an easy walk around the town and to the lake.
But most of all, the service we received from the staff was the best of any of the hotels we stayed at on our month long trip through Italy. They were extremely informative, spoke multiple languages, answered all of our questions, and went out of their way to help us and provide us with information we required.
Overall the only negatives of this hotel was no complimentary wifi included in the rooms, a lack of variety of channels to watch on the TV (not to much of a big deal as we weren't staying there to watch the TV), and the fact that it could use some updating. But the amazing service we received from the staff made it very easy to overlook those small negatives and we will definitely stay there again when we return to Como.
