Our room was on the 4th floor with an amazing view of the lake and mountains. The room was beautifully updated and very modern with slate bathroom floor, towel warmer, and nice little balcony with chairs. Great location. Didn't want to leave.

The hotel location is across from the lake and a short walking distance from the train station. The room was a little on the small size but very cheery, clean and has very pretty linens. We had a nice view of the mountains and city. The housekeepers are very polite and so is the hotel's restaurant's staff. However, the front desk staff is rude and grumpy. Check in was the most unwelcome check in I have ever received. At first I didn't care about the condescending tone as well as the look of "you are bothering me" when we checked in. However, after the second question in two days, (two different people I had spoken with) I quickly got tired of the consistency of rudeness. Every time I asked a question, they had responded as though I interrupted their moment of doing nothing. The restaurant they suggested was not any place I would go to again. The restaurant was Il Storico. The food was very expensive and not worth remembering. So don't go there if they suggest it. We went over to the Hotel Excelsior (which is next door) to speak with their front desk for any questions we had. They were so helpful and happy. If it is your first time visiting Como, I would suggest not to stay here since you won't get any real "assistance" at the front desk. I won't be staying here again. I would try someplace else. Only because the staff was so unhappy and not helpful.

We stayed at this hotel in early Feb 2010 for 3 nights. Because it was winter, they had a special deal. We took the half -board deal and stayed in a front lake view room with balcony. Staff are very friendly, upon check in, a chilled bottle of Italian sparkling wine was delivered to the room. The wine was included in the package. The room was very tastefully decorated and a full balcony opened to the lake. The view is fantastic.

The dinner included in the package. The Restaurant Manager, Signore Paola Sandinonigi and his team were friendly and professional. Dinner consisted of 3 courses and you pay additional for wine and tea/coffee which were very reasonably priced. The food was delicious with generous servings.

On our last day the owner Signor Passini? was in the lobby and he explained his family's long association with this hotel to us. Overall, a very pleasant stay. We loved this hotel and were sad to leave. The hotel location is very good, on lake front and you can stroll to shops, the cable car station to the top of the mountain, a must do when you in Como. Right opposite is the ferry terminal and we took the ferry one day to visit the villages along the lakeshore.

When we arrived at the hotel, the staff was rather uninterested and not very friendly. The man basically just commanded us to show our passports. Not the nicest start. Later on, they couldn't provide much information about sightseeing and how to get to the airport.

The room was okay. Generally nice room.

The food at the breakfast was ok, but the coffee was really bad (machine coffee).

If you're looking for a standard experience, Hotel Metropole Suisse is fine.. But if you're looking for something extra, I recommend going somewhere else. It's not a very charming hotel, but it's very practical, and I could imagine that it would be nice for more business-minded travellers.

We spent one night at the Metropole Suisse Hotel and we had a very nice stay. We asked for a lakeside room and the view of from the balcony was fantastic. The rooms are very spacious, with a nice decor. The bathroom was huge, with a very big shower and it looked like it was just remodeled. Breakfast was Ok; it came with the room but we wouldn't pay extra for it. All-in-all, we had a very pleasant stay and we'd recommend this hotel to a friend.

We arrived a day after school started again in Italy so everything was still going but the crowds had gone. Thank goodness, as we had a car and would have had trouble parking otherwise.

The hotel is fantastically located on the main square on the lake (complete with a temporary ice skating rink and a cute market). There are a heap of shopping streets and restaurants in 3 directions and the lake beyond. The staff were friendly, and the rooms (we had 2 Superior rooms) were fine with a small balcony each and a window. It's a typical old hotel so each room was very different which will probably explain the mixed reviews. The bathrooms were new and the showers hot so no complaints from us. This hotel is worth it for the location.
