In the shopping district and away from the lake. Very clean and modern place. The breakfast is decent but not great. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. We walked from the train station and it might make sense to grab a cab back, especially if it a hot day, as the walk back from the hotel is all uphill.

A short walk from Como’s main station and from the lake, tucked away in a small square in the semi-pedestrian central area of Como, the Avenue hotel is a surprise.
Like the retrofitted panoramic lift.
The hotel is a great hotel, our room was impeccably clean, well furnished, spacious, and well equipped in every aspect, up to a nespresso espresso machine in the room! The staff was friendly, professional and very helpful.
Free wifi and a nice buffet breakfast complete the picture.
However the hotel does have some really weird aspects which could put off some more conservative travellers.
How about a bath tub INSIDE the room ? And not in some kind of squalid, derelict way; it is clearly hi spec tub and the child of some mad local expensive interior designer, or perhaps of the owners (this is not a chain hotel, it is privately owned probably by local people).
But it’s still a bathtub in the room. Weird.
And what about a glass (non opaque) door between the spacious bathroom (with large shower) and the rest of the room? What I mean is that from inside the room you could see inside the bathroom, and vice versa. Now.. this might work fine for certain situations, like old time couples, or families with younger children; but it might not work so well in other situations, like for example the first romantic weekend with your new lover: do you really want to see them taking a dump in the bathroom? Wouldn’t that spoil the romanticism of the Como mini-break? I guess it would.. Again, this faux pas is executed in expensive, high spec materials, and one wonders what kind of madness got into the interior designer or whoever came up with these ideas.
The WC and bidet are expensive pieces but the are.. squared.
Who designed a square john? Someone from Mars? Don’t they try their own designs?

Other weird stuff was specific to our under-the-roof family room: certain areas having a low ceiling (although it was only slightly below 2 mt), were not supposed to be accessible, which mean that part of the room had been fenced off with either furniture or a metal fence, again an expensive chromed metal fence, something very weird looking, but not an issue since the room was anyway very big (bigger than my apartment in London, anyway).

Last but not least weird aspect is the choice of flooring, A rough large and elongated granite tile which normally you expect to see on the streets in town and not in a room.
They are certainly more hygienic than carpet and certainly more resistant than wood, but they are cold (actually cold to walk on bare feet) and they gave me the strange feeling of being asleep on the streets.

Despite these weird aspects, it’s a great hotel, the experience was extremely positive and I would go back any time.

We got a special rate which was very good, but normally it’s a rather expensive hotel. WHich is the norm in Italy, where even expensive hotel can be crap: at least this one is a good one.

Set in the centre of the beautiful alpine town of Como, location is great but the hotel itself could have more to offer.
Each room has a different colour and plastic seems to be the preference.
Problems finding a parking space nearby. Breakfast included but a bit poor quality.

The location of this hotel is excellent, but be warned, difficult for cabs to find. It is easy to walk anywhere from this quaint location. There are great shops nearby and cute coffee shops for a welcome espresso on a cold Winter's evening. The hotel is tiny. The rooms are small but it was adequate for my stay. My room overlooked the Piazzolo. The bedroom and bathroom was very clean. There are no coffee or tea making facilities in the room but it did have a well -stocked mini bar. Breakfast was fine - excellent variety and very continental. The big win for this hotel are the staff - they are welcoming, helpful and very friendly. This stood out for me compared to my experiences in other Italian Hotel.

Room Tip: Any room overlooking the Piazzolo Terragani

Having visited Como and stayed in a number of different hotels, we chose the Avenue this time based on location and the reviews. We stayed for 4 nights at the end of August. We used their car park, which turned out to be a space in a courtyard opposite the hotel. Given some of the other hotel car parking spaces we have encountered in Como, the space was massive and about the going rate. We had printed out a map showing the one way system in the old part of Como and after working out how to cross the train tracks, we had no difficulty finding the hotel. It was a great location, near restaurants and shops.

The rooms in the hotel weren't the largest but were nicely decorated and the modern design was a change from the normal Italian style of room. I was slightly concerned about the glass bathroom door from the reviews but our room was glass with frosted stripes so it was fine. Breakfast was ok by Italian standards with fruit, bread and hot options if you wanted them.

We were told when we checked in that Sky wasn't working but would be fixed the next day. We asked a different receptionist about this the next day but she just looked confused and told s that it was working. Needless to say, it didn't work the whole time we were there. For the price, I would have liked some English tv stations.

We really enjoyed our two night stay at Avenue Hotel. We stayed in room 204 which is a slightly bigger room (which I think we paid a little more for). This was towards the end of our trip so we enjoyed having a bit more space in comparison to the other rooms we had stayed in. The room was modern, clean, refreshing and comfortable.

The staff were friendly and always willing to help. They provided us with Internet wi-fi passwords for multiple devices free of charge. The Internet was quick also.

Breakfast was a lovely buffet and included fresh fruit amongst a range of other things. The staff also offered to cook you eggs which was nice. The location of the hotel was great, we walked both to and from the train station and were a short walk from the lake and all the stores. Unfortunately being winter there wasn't all that much to do so 2 nights was enough to stay.

Overall, I think it was a tad expensive (€145 a night) but we really enjoyed the stay. The staff told us on departure they offer discounts if you return,, so I think we will take advantage of that some time in the future!!!!
