Description: The restaurant has an elegant and spacious décors overlooking Piazza Volta, one of the most picturesque squares in the city. Thanks to its unique location and its style of furniture provides a great backdrop for banquets, receptions and dinners. The international cuisine offers fresh seafood, fine meats and a wide selection of pasta strictly home-made, oven wood and room for imagination. Wide range of wines with many labels selected from the best Italian and foreign productions. Harmony of flavours and aromas where the pleasure of tradition, together with the desire to experiment, creates a real exaltation of the senses that give pleasant emotions and memories that will accompany you.

This restaurant is nicely located in the piazza and if you are lucky there may be some live music playing across the way. The staff are courteous and efficient and we had no problem with the service. The tricolori gnocchi was really nice, good flavours and texture so I was very happy with that. However the lasagne was possibly the worst we've had in a long time - dry and tough like it had been standing for days, and served with a single lettuce leaf and one (yes one, I counted) round slide of raw carrot. So take care - the food quality is very variable.

We had lunch at this restaurant, on an one trip to Como. Nice restaurant with outside sitting although inside is more beautiful. The food was great, my ravioli was fresh and delicious and the pizza was marvelous as well. Staff very friendly and fast with a smile on their face. Well done!

After a long day in Como's airless heat last week we decided to head for Piazza Allessandro Volta for our evening meal. We struggled to find restaurants in Como with decent meat dish selections which was necessary due to a gluten intolerant member of our party. On finding Il Caicco, the menu looked good and a nice outside location on the edge of the square sold it to us.

The initial approach by the waiter was very clipped and stuffy. We always speak in Italian rather than English as best we can and although we spoke in Italian then, the waiter replied in English and was very terse and didn't look at us at all. On asking questions about menu options we were abruptly told "No it's not possible, no!" in a very condescending fashion. Our meals came out without the customary bread and olive oil. The bread arrived later but no olive oil and repeated attempts to attract their attention resulted in being ignored all round despite definite eye contact. Great value for the cover charge!
The food itself was OK, nothing special, well cooked average Italian fare. When you look at the price of the food it's very poor value for money and the portions were on the small side.
On finishing our food, the moment the fork touched the plate it was whisked away and the bill presented immediately making us feel about as welcome as...well, choose a suitable simile!

The location is fantastic otherwise the food is overpriced and average, served with the charm of a military coup and all the customer service skills of your average house brick. It's not a three star Michelin restaurant guys, it's a tourist trap bog-standard Italian restaurant so there is no excuse for the attitude. In hindsight we should have tightened our belts for the 20 minute drive up the coast to Hotel Aurora in Lezzeno where the service and surroundings are perfect, the food is better and the value twice as good....avoid Il Caicco unless you're starving!

We were looking for somewhere to get some good pizza and eat outside on a nice day. We came upon this place and decided to give it a try. We were very pleasantly surprised. Not only was the location great (one of the biggest piazzas in Como), but the food was fantastic. The boys had pizza, which was great, and we had the daily special: pasta with lobster! It was great, and very reasonably priced. The waiter was funny and friendly. He did seem to always be in a hurry, but was never rude. Be advised you will pay a "cover charge" for each person that eats here, although for us, it was minimal (we had drinks, an appetizer, the main course, dessert, and coffee -- but the people sitting next to us who had only pizza were not pleased). Overall, a great dining experience, especially on a nice day.
