Our side view window was really a great view and all that we needed since we traveled much of the day during our stay. Our welcome was friendly and sincere. We arrived from Como by hydrofoil and the walk was minimal from the ferry to the hotel entrance. The room was clean and the bath was large. We had a tub / shower combination however, sitting in the tub is not very comfortable. Hot water. The room was nicer than we anticipated. Seemed to have been recently updated. We visited Villa Balbianello and Villa Carlotta in one day. Loved them both. Had lunch on the lakeside in Lenno. We took the little motorboat (when you exit the ferry you walk to the left and the other side of the lake to get to the small boat) to the entrance of Balbianello for 6E which included the return ride. Then reboarded the ferry to Tremezzo to visit Villa Carlotta. Although the ferry dropped us at a convenient spot the return ferry was directly across from the Carlotta. We had dinner at the Grotto just up the hill from the entrance to the Hotel Metropole. Very nice people and good food. The travel agency up the hill from the ferry landing helped us with our train tickets for the remainder of our trip. The breakfast buffet was more than enough and the view on the lake in the breakfast room was a plus! The morning we left the porter allowed us to enter the breakfast room a little early so that we could have something to eat before they opened. We took the car ferry from Bellagio to Varenna to take the train to Milan. The walk up the hill was not difficult for us even with our luggage(carry on suitcase and tote). If it were raining it might have been unpleasant but we had a beautiful sunny morning. I researched TripAdvisor all last winter for our trip and all the advice I found truly helped to make our trip so much easier. Our only regret was that we did not allow more time in this beautiful location. Our visit was really a great welcome to Italy for us.

Friends advised me to stay at other hotels in Bellagio, but I could not get a waterfront room at either place. I could get that at the Metropole and booked it. We had room 449 top floor corner with small balcony over the water. We could not wait to throw open the doors each morning and be greeted with that view. Breathtaking, a major part of what we enjoyed.

The room is not luxurious but completely functional, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Bed and linens comfortable. We loved the ceiling fan and air conditioning. Minibar prices were reasonable. Shower is small and it was a tight squeeze for 6'4" hubby, but really hot water and great water pressure compensated and it was OK. Great hair dryer. English sports channel made hubby happy. Hubby is the worlds lightest sleeper and I was worried about noise keeping him awake all night. There was karoke at the outdoor restaurant next door on the weekends, but it stopped at 11:00pm and that was fine with us. Hubby slept fine.

We liked the breakfast and it included the wonderful water view. There were several types of protein, fresh fruit and lots of breads, cereals and pastries. Cold bottled water was included for us non-coffee drinkers! The Italian bacon look disgustingly undercooked but tasted wonderful, be sure to try it. We arrived in Bellagio about 3:00 in the afternoon starving. We had wine, pasta and a sandwich at the terrace restaurant, it was just OK and expensive for what it was, but then there is that view.... We got glasses of ice each day to take back to the room and enjoy our balcony view with a cold drink, it doesn't get better than that...

I liked that there was a roof top terrace at this hotel. Truth be told, we never used it. Preferred our little balcony. Note: if you can not afford the extra money for the waterfront room, the roof top terrace was lovely way to get the same benefit and view.

Yes, we would stay there again, happily. I gave it only 4 stars because it is not as luxurious as I may have liked, but then again, I'd have to pay more per night if it was fancier and I'm not sure I wanted that either. This was just right cost wise and I felt like I got value for what we paid.

We were 2 couples travelling together and had front balcony rooms beside each other on the 4th floor. We stayed here for 4 nights after travelling thru France for 2 weeks. We found the Metropole very comfortable, extremely clean and the staff very friendly. The rooms have been recently renovated & seem a little old fashioned, but beds are comfy, bathroom is new & spotless & we found the breakfast fine. We ate at the restaurant several times and had nice meals, 10% discount for house guests. The position is perfect, right in the middle of everything. We loved Bellagio and will definitely be back, and would be happy to stay at the Metropole again.

My partner and I stayed at the metropole for 2 nts in september 09.
We had reserved a side room view of the lake and our room was very spacious - in fact we had a double room and a single room like a mini apt. The location was great-a stone's throw from the ferry terminal and there was one girl in particular working front office who was exceptionally helpful and her english was near perfect.

We weren't overally excited with the bed - it was sagging in the middle of the matress causing us both backache the next day & the shower was quite poky and the water pressure wasnt fantastic. The location was great that we could see the lake, although it was relatively noisy considering we also faced one of the main thoroughfares of Bellagio. We loved the ceiling fan in the room, the wifi internet was not too bad & there were English tv channels.

Our one great tip for Bellagio is to try Restaurant San Giacomo -- but get there early at around 6:45pm otherwise good luck getting a table!

4th floor balcony room - awesome view from a spotless room in an awesome place. If you want marble foyers and bellhops - go somewhere else. Hotel Metropole delivers on the great location in a great place concept. One in the end does get what one pays for and it holds true for this place. Room is smallish, shower space is small - but on the whole not much different to a major hotel chain but without the fluff. We chose this as the place to start our Italian sojourn after a busy, busy year and a long flight from Australia and its working out just great.

First time to Lake Como and loved this hotel. We were (upgraded?) and given a suite which was a fantastic surprise. Room decor, bathroom etc. all really clean and tasteful. Weather only warm for one day but nice to be able to sunbathe on the hotel balcony. Friendly staff. Breakfast ok, coffee and juice not good though.

This hotel is in a great location right on the lake just steps from the ferry. The rooms are nice & the bathroom is good although don't drop the soap in the shower as it is so small there is no chance of picking it up. we stayed in a room with a side lake view which was beautiful as well as looking down on the main corso area. The reception rooms are decent although they feel a little like a retirement home. the roof top terrace has a stunning view. the restaurant needs updateing & the breakfast did not entice us to try the restaurant for dinner! Although for a European 3 star hotel it is very good value
