“Loved hotel, though not perfect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

We loved our stay in the Hotel Metropole during our trip to Lake Como. The hotel is right on the waterfront, near the ferries, and centrally located. Perfect location. Our room, rm 217, was big, with a sitting room and a balcony overlooking the lake. The bed was king size and very comfortable. The room and the bathroom was very clean. The desk staff was outstanding. They went out of their way each time we had questions. I couldn't say enough how much they helped us out. The only reason I wouldn't give a "perfect" rating is because of the food at the hotel restaurant. We ate lunch on the waterfront patio one day. The view was fantastic but the food was only OK. It wasn't bad. It wasn't great. Saying it was OK is the best description. Also, the glass of house wine we ordered wasn't good. The glass was too small and the flavor was sub-par. This in a region with great wine everywhere you turn. We were disappointed. And the buffet breakfast we had each morning, I would rate it as "good". Not great. I don't mean to be picky about the food. Just trying to be accurate in describing the hotel instead of being a "gushy" and saying everything was great.

Room Tip: We stayed at Rm 217. It's very large, would sleep 3 people, having an extra bed in the sitting r...

Great memories from our stay at this hotel. We arrived by ferry to see our friends waving from their balcony. The hotel was just steps from the ferry dock. Our room faced the lake with spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The hotel staff were most welcoming and friendly. We really appreciated their help when, at the last minute, we had to move our check-in date to one day later. They understood our unfortunate dilemma and worked to fill the room saving us from paying for the night. Breakfast included many choices and we enjoyed dinner and lunch with a view of the lake. The hotel is in a great location for ferry travel, shopping and dining. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel. The only negative was WiFi in our room was non-existent and we had to go to the lobby for it to work.

Room Tip: Definitely book a room facing the lake, the view is so worth it.

Get a room with a terrace. The view is fabulous. The service is first rate. Ivan, the very personable maître d' and excellent food make eating at this hotel a pleasure.
The property is centrally located. Easy access to the ferries and shopping.

Room Tip: You should ask for a room with a lake view. We stayed in Room 111. It appeared to be the best in the...

Wonderful hotel right on water. Close to ferries and shops in town. Good value for expensive tourist area. Weather was cloudy and cool in early Oct. but views would be great on a clear day. Spotty WiFi in room. Nice bathroom amenities except towel warmer was not turned on yet. Staff very nice and helpful.

Breakfast was great but the same over 5 days.

Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Room 454 has lakeside and street views from small terrace. Ask for senior discount (over age 65) fo...

I have visited Lake Como 4 times . Twice to Bellagio. I made a late booking at the Metropole and enjoyed every inute of my 5 day holiday. My companion is of Italian roots as her mother came from south of Rome. My companion Kisa loved every day of good food, a great hotel staff and a room that offered a small view of the lake. The best part was stroll through Meltzy gardens and walking to every place was a pleasure ..Bellagio and the Metropole Hotel made our visit memorable.Back again next year

Room Tip: Book early as Bellagio is a much sought after holiday place If you want a lake view room.

This is true to hotel photos and description and a lovely place to stay. We arrived by ferry and the hotel is a minutes walk from there, right on Lake Como. We had a corner room which gives great views of both the lake and the town. Lovely bar outside on the waters edge for a cocktail to enjoy the wonderful views and people watching.

Stayed 5 nights at the Metropole and were pleased with our choice. Our intial impression was positive and a our whole experience equally positive. We had a lake view room with a tiny balcony. Our prior communication with the hotel indicated the rooms we booked were compact but they were bigger than we expected. Everything was very clean and in perfect condition. The staff were very extremely helpful. The breakfast was generous. I would stay again!
