Hotel Splendide is in a perfect location! Our room was not great! It was small and the beds were old and could use updated linens. The bathroom did provide a hair dryer, but not enough towels and a tiny tiny bar of soap. However, the view from our room was great! The staff was very nice and helpful where they could be except for the staff in the restaurant. Skip the breakfast and restaurant. It is gross! Even the coffee was bad and they were playing American rap music. Go somewhere else for breakfast. The staff should update their knowledge of the boat rides to the surrounding cities. They did not know anything and we were on our own to figure out where to purchase the boat tickets and where to catch it. The lobby is beautiful but it was full of flies, weird! The garden and pool were very pretty and well kept. They also don’t clean the rooms very fast. We came back to the room at 2pm to take a nap and it had not been cleaned yet, so I had to go ask for new towels and we just told them to forget it so we could nap. Here is good advice if you use a GPS to get there. Map the hotel. Right in front of the hotel, next to their beautiful outside bar, is free parking with white lines. Try to get one of these spots. Next to that there is paid parking. Because the road turns into a 1 way street right in front of the hotel, the GPS will take you down a gated street through town and right through the shoppers. Do not go that way! Once you get close to the hotel, turn the GPS off and use your map. You can pull in right in front of the hotel from the main road and park without following the 1 way street.

My wife and i had a fine stay at this hotel in late May. I had emailed to the hotel that due to our train schedule we would be arriving early in the morning before check-in time and wondered if we might leave our luggage while we went sightseeing. I got a nice email back promptly from a nice young lady who subsequently proved very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. She not only kept our luggage but within an hour we were in our room at 9 AM in the morning! It was like having a free day! We enjoyed the pool (behind the hotel) and grassy terraced area around it later that afternoon. We had a room on the second floor with a two-person balcony with a view out over the lake and mountains--lovely! The balcony also looked out over a couple of lakeside outdoor restaurants that had live music which we enjoyed--(One had a keyboard/singer soloist and the other had a guitar/singer soloist.) If you like to go to sleep at 9 PM, best to ask for a room in the rear. Bellagio itself is lovely, though touristed, and the hotel is within a few minutes of everything. My only criticism of this hotel is that the breakfast selection, as has been noted elsewhere, does not inspire. We have eaten hotel buffet breakfasts in eight different European countries and four other Italian cities and this is the only one i can recall that not only did not provide a selection of rolls and breads to choose from but instead provided one (very boring white) roll per person in a basket at your table. There was also no selection of cold-cut meats and cheeses but merely one variety of each, also uninspired. There was muesli, cornflakes and hard-boiled eggs so all in all, you aren't in any danger of starving. But I confess I do not understand the economic logic of skimping on an aspect of hotel hospitality that is so widely discussed on Tripadvisor and other sites and which reveals an almost embarrassing frugality. I want to repeat that we had a fine stay at this hotel with friendly service, good facilities etc. and we would stay there again. But I can't help thinking would be a lot more clever of this hotelier to charge five or ten euros more per room if necessary and serve a wonderful Italian breakfast buffet that would compel me and the other whiners on this thread to shut up about it! :-)

I stayed here with 3 other adults in early May. It could not have been more conveniently located. If you take the bus, it drops you off right down the street. The ferry station is right across the street.

The room was spacious and comfortable. We had 4 single beds, which is unusual but perfect for our group. It was a very economical price. We had a lakeview as well. There is a pool up on the hill behind the hotel, but it wasn't open yet.

Breakfast was included. Typical European continental breakfast with lots to choose from. The coffee machine will make you almost anything that you want. I had a cafe mocha.

We were very happy we stayed here. It was perfect for us!

Try the Princess Bar about a 10 minute walk from the hotel, it's new and alot of fun!

We have recently returned from a three day stay at Splendide in Bellagio and cannot fault the place! After reading some reviews on Tripadvisor, like others, I was a bit dubious on booking the hotel but being March there are very few places open and after travelling all this way from New Zealand decided I definitely wanted a view of the lake. We were not disappointed. On arrival we were offered a room on the first floor but I asked if there was a room higher up - the Manager and reception staff were fantastic - and we were offered the choice of two rooms. We chose Room 51 - a corner room on the fourth (attic) floor with a little balcony with views to die for. The room was spacious, comfortable and very clean.

The staff remained incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. As far as the breakfast went - we found it was on a par if not a bit better than other breakfasts we had in Italy. For a continental breakfast it was fresh and plentiful. My husband is very fussy with his coffees but he found the much maligned (in other reviews) coffee from the machine absolutely fine.

I'm at a loss to understand why this hotel is not ranked more highly, we would not hesitate to stay there again.

A well situated hotel on the Bellagio lakefront within a couple minutes walk of the ferry terminal. This hotel has seen grander days and the decor in the guest rooms is quite dated. However, whilst it was basic, the rooms were cleaned daily and the bathroom was spacious and the water hot! The bed was also comfortable. The weak point of the stay was the breakfast which was plentiful but basic and repetitive. Typically consisted of a continental breakfast (croissant, rolls, meats, cheese, jam) with limited choice of cereals. Disappointingly for an italian hotel the coffee came from a vending style machine. Fruit juices were reconstituted and fresh fruits and yoghurts were offered occasionally rather than daily. The hotel was within easy walking distance of all Bellagio's amenities. For the price and location it was excellent value, and on a budget it would be recommended for a stay in this beautiful location.

This hotel truly is the tired 'gentile old lady' and of 'jaded spendour' referred to by a previous reviews. Certainly a convenient beautiful lakeside spot with plenty of traditional Italian character, especially the spiralling marble staircase and ceiling fresco on the top floor, but unfortunately needs to have the breath of life pumped in to it! This would certainly not take much doing and with the exception of what felt like low camp beds, in our room at least, the cost would be minimal. The staff did not have any joy in their job which was particularly noticeable at breakfast and the tables were set out like school dinners. Don't get us going on the coffee and the ham!!!! There was a tranquil garden with a small swimming pool and with the exception of one other family we thought we had stumbled on a secret garden that could look so much more attractive with just a little effort in the style Italians are famous for. On booking in we were told there was a problem with the plumbing in our room and it was not ready so we were being sent to another hotel - big sigh..... However it was the Metropole a few steps away! We were greeted with a warm welcome and a very brief check in and given a 3rd floor corner room. There was a small balcony overlooking the lake, a further window overlooking the over side of Bellagio and the bathroom had balcony doors that opened to reveal another beautiful aspect as this magnificantly charming place!! What a treat to find a roof top sun terrace with what must be rated as one of the top most perfectly breathtaking views in the world!! The lakeside restaurant below was inviting with good food had the view that you would never tire of and was heated overhead as a slight October evening chill drew in. The head waiter and all the staff were jovial and happy and helpful with that wonderful Italian style. Unfortunately after our one day very pleasant and comfortable experience we had to move a few steps up the road back to the Splendide for our last 2 days. However we did return to the Metropole in the evenings to eat and a sneak back up to 'our' roof top sun terrace with panaromic views. There is no reason, that we can see anyway, that the Splendide could not reach this same standard of happiness that is contagious in a place like this. We would perhaps choose this hotel again as a base but only if the price was extremely good.
