The Hotel Belvedere is a high priced rather snooty place. Lovely setting, nice facility, great views. We felt "nickled and dimed": e15. for 24 hr. interenet (w.20 per minute), e2.00 for pool towels!, e2.00 for a bucket of ice!. The restaurant and room service is outrageously expensive which simply motivated us to eat downtown at the many fine and more resasonably priced places. The included breakfast was excellent, the staff was for the most part quite nice. Our room was nice but dirty. Hair in the bed, dirty glasses, dirty floor. Next time we will stay downtown and closer to the many interesting shops and restaurants.

We have just returned from a 3 week trip to Croatia/Italy. We stayed 3 nights after a delightful 7-day trip up the coast of Croatia on a sailboat cruise. Our cruise ended in Venice so we rented a car in Venice & drove to Bellagio through Bergamo (we toured the Alta Citte in Bergamo & had lunch--great stop). We had GPS in our car & we really needed it to get to the hotel.

We were traveling with our 2 teenage children. Our room was a lovely, updated 2 bedroom suite with several balconies that overlooked the most beautiful lake views. The front desk staff was so helpful & friendly. We took a tour that was arranged through the hotel to Villa Balbuino on a private boat & toured Villa Carlotta by ourselves using the ferry. Also, don't miss Vill Melzi in Bellagio. Bellagio is such a delightful place to visit. We loved the Belvedere because we could walk into town when we wanted to but the hotel is away from the crowds so is such a delightful, peaceful retreat. It is a 10 minute uphill walk back to the hotel from town. It is also fun to walk to Pescallo at the base of the hill that the hotel is on & see the local setting.

The breakfast at the hotel is wonderful with delightful views of the lake. We ate dinner & lunch in town. We loved eating at La Punta which is an outdoor cafe on the point. Really great setting & food. The pool at the hotel is so nice for relaxing after a day of touring. All around, a great & beautiful place to stay. Would return in a moments notice!!

We decided to book a lake view room for the stay at The Belvedere, and had a high room with great views over the Lecco branch of Como. This is the side where the ferries don't run and is very unspoilt and quiet, so our view took in the roofs of the houses in the little fishing hamlet of Pescallo, the small harbour, and the lake with its small villages and the mountains behind. This view also takes in the hotel gardens and the pool area, however the pool is finished with at 8pm, and there was no noise problem.

The location of The Belvedere is not so good for people with mobility problems as you have to either climb steps or go round by the road to gain access; it is quite a bit above Bellagio town. However, if you can manage a steady walk up this is definitely the best place to be. There is a shortcut down through the park, which is much easier to handle than the stairs further along which take you directly onto the main street.

The hotel is officially 3 star, but the quality of the accommodation and amenities surely means that it will be given a 4th star very soon. The only downside we could find with our very well sized bedroom was the attached narrow bathroom, with only a hand shower on the bath. This meant that bending over the bath put us at risk of moving the net curtains at the window and flashing rather more than the other guests would have wanted to see! Plus we are rather large people (height-wise) so it was not the best for us - however, we only used it a couple of times a day, and the sight of my 6ft 4ins husband in the (apparently) tiny bath did give me a chuckle.

The indoor public areas are more than good enough, but do not have the space to expand unless this is taken from the excellent dining room, which would be a shame. The lift seems to have a mind of its own sometimes, but you get used to it and it gets you where you want to go.

The outside areas are very good. The dining terrace overlooks the garden and pool areas. The jacuzzi is brilliant to sit in and just gaze over the lake. There are several separate sitting areas rather than everything being crammed in around the pool. You can go into the garden areas, the sun terrace, the shaded area at the end of the pool, or the open area at the other end; loungers and brollies are provided. The pool is a decent size and is supervised. The gardens are very well tended and surprisingly extensive.

The food is more than adequate - breakfast could take hours if you had a bit of everything. The only thing missing was something like mushrooms to go with the hot food. Cereals, fruit, and yoghurts, breads, pots of real jam, croissants, meats and cheeses, scrambled egg and bacon, juices, coffees, teas, and then the sweet bits. All good quality and very well presented. As we had booked for half-board, we had the basic evening menu so only had 3 choices! and also, as a vegetarian, I had a specific menu with further choices. The portions were nicely balanced and we were never left feeling bloated or hungry. The food was very well cooked and extremely tasty. There was, however, one big problem with the evening meals - the sweets. These were consistently fantastic and nearly worth a star in themselves. Unfortunately, they disappeared far too quickly no matter how hard we tried to savour them slowly.

The staff were very efficient and, as the week went on, became more friendly. I do wish they had smiled more though. However, they were very attentive and helpful. The cleaning staff certainly perform to high standards, and the pool and garden areas are also exceptionally clean and tidy.

Would we go back? Definitely. In fact we have the travel and route planned so that we can book independently next time, rather than through a company as we did on this occasion. Can't say better than that.

This hotel is in a stunning location, with friendly staff. However, be aware that it does not take credit cards if you have previously booked through an agent or package. It also charges for towels by the pool. If you are in a villa, you are in a lovely room but it is at the bottom of quite a steep path away from the hotel: not ideal if it is raining or if you are a slow walker. That said, the food is varied and wonderful, the service excellent and friendly.
One other thing, it is in a quiet location above the town - the drawback being the uphill walk from the town or ferry. I want to sound more positive than the impression given above as I rate it a very good hotel overall.

Caught train from Milan to Como. Walked to ferry terminal from station. This is a mistake! Take a taxi from station if you have luggage with you. Fast ferry to Bellagio which was wonderful. It is a difficult walk to Hotel Belvedere but we rang them and had a coffee while we waited for their electric car to pick us and our luggage up. The hotel is a ten minute walk from ferry but all up a steep hill or via steps which would be impossible with wheeled luggage. Can't believe the hotel is only three star. We stayed there for six nights and gave it a min. of four stars. Wonderful room below pool. Excellent breakfast . Friendly staff, particularly at reception. It's an easy 10 min. walk from hotel to main piazza but one has to be fit for the walk back to the hotel. Would not stay at this hotel if you had difficulty walking up steep stairs in thestreets. Set in a peaceful setting and very quiet. We had a wonderful experience at Hotel Belvedere and just loved Bellagio.
