We had four days in this hotel at the beginning of October 2012. The hotel was brilliant, we had a beautiful, very clean room with a great view of the lake. The staff (all locals thankfully) could not have been nicer and nothing was too much trouble. The outdoor swimming pool was excellent and included a small area for drinks/sandwiches with a spa next to the pool area. The spa included scented showers and a great Turkish bath / steam room. Very relaxing.

We ate in the restaurant every evening. The food was good with excellent service. This was the best hotel we've stayed in for a very long time and we are very fussy.

Room Tip: Always ask for a lake view with a veranda.

My wife and I stayed for 5 days at the end of September and found the Belvedere to live up to its generally good reviews. We had a lake view room with a small balcony which was just what we wanted (NB the part of the lake you see from the room is the south eastern Lecco arm). The room was nicely furnished with a decent bathroom. We dined in the hotel one evening and had the fixed price menu (around 45 Euros), reasonable value for money and good food attractively presented. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful throughout.

The hotel is high above Bellagio, which means quite a climb from the lake shore. Useful tip:
if you ring the hotel with your time of arrival by ferry they will send a courtesy car to pick you up (also available on departure).

Restaurants in Bellagio are not cheap, which probably explains why San Giovanni at the top of the steps of Salita Serbelloni is so popular - good value pasta dishes for example; get there in time for their opening at 7 pm to avoid disappointment! Just down from there is Ristorante Bilacus, more expensive but highly recommended - we sat on the terrace on a balmy Mediterranean evening with a glass of prosecco before our meal - wonderful!
A very good little pizza place is La Grotta on Salita Cernaia just up from the centre.

Bellagio is well placed for visiting other places mid-lake. The highlight for us was Villa Carlotta - the gardens are beautifully kept and the house is very impressive. We vowed to come back in the early summer for the azaleas and rhododendrons. Villa Balbianello is also worth visiting - take the tour of the house for interesting background to its various owners and their collections.
Varenna, just across the lake from Bellagio, is also worth a half day visit for the nice walk along the lakeside into the town, a visit to the little chapel of S. Giorgio and perhaps a visit to the extended gardens of Villa Monastero.

Como town can be reached by fast hydrofoil (under 1 hour) but this is quite expensive - the normal ferry takes nearly two hours. When we left we caught the C30 bus from the lake promenade, which is only around three Euros. It takes just over an hour and as the road hugs the lake shore you get wonderful views along the way. The bus terminates at San Giovanni station, handy if you are catching the train to Milan Central Station or an Intercity to Switzerland.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view room with balcony in the main hotel - the higher the floor the better the view.

We booked a standard room with lake view on the hotel website. Based on the photos we expected a classic room with a balcony and up to date amenities. When we arrived we were taken down to the gym level, then out into the garden - at this stage we got worried as it was pouring down- down a path to an annex. Well we thought we were going to the annex, at the end of the first path we turned left to go down a bit further to a granny flat!! The furnishings were from the 80s if not the 70s. The tiles on the floor definitely from the 70s as was the bathroom. The lake view was just access to the garden. When I mentioned that was nothing like what they advertised I was told that they only show their best rooms on their website! No wonder. I wouldn't rent that room for 100 euros let alone 240 euros/night.
I asked for a different room and was then shown a larger room with partial views, still stuck in the 70s but at least within the main building and with decent furniture and a newer too but with a view of the garden (on the opposite side of a fairly busy road). We opted but granny's partial lake view room but couldn't help feeling cheated but unscrupulous hotel management.

The hotel has some nice rooms and nice shared areas but be careful when booking a standard room you could end up in granny's flat!!

Room Tip: Don't trust their website and ask to be in the main building

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Belvedere in Bellagio Italy for six nights in May this year and couldn't believe how lovely the place was. The views were terrific and the service excellent. The rooms were lovely. They couldn't do enough for us which included installing a shower attachment to our bath because I had initially requested a shower. What an unbelievable surprise? The half board package was great as the meals were very nice and the restaurant had a terrific ambience. The 10 minute walk into town was easy and enjoyable. Car parking was included. I heard reports from local people that it was one of the better hotels in the area and I could only agree. We are from Australia and will be back again for May 2013 touring with friends and we know that we will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We stayed in a corner suite and the view was terrific

We booked three nights at the Belvedere based to a great extent on the favorable reviews we had read on this site. It exceeded our expectations! Our three days and nights were just wonderful. The decor is classic yet modern and the entire ambience is wonderfully relaxing. The staff is very pleasant, uniformly nice to foreign guests, and extraordinarily helpful with suggestions and directions. The location is great --- just a few minutes walk to the streets leading down to the lake and ferries. Our view from the balcony off our room was spectacular! While the hotel is not inexpensive, it is indeed a resort in a prestigious location, and we would gladly book there again, and shall!
