Writing this from my third floor balcony at the Belvedere as I look out at the stunning view of Lake Como and mountains beyond. This hotel is officially rated 3 star but in my opinion it deserves 4 stars. The probable reason is the rooms are a little cramped, but that is the only criticism I would make. My wife and I are here for 4 days and have loved every moment. The hotel and bedrooms are pristine, the food is marvellous, (we are staying half board and would highly recommend.). Breakfasts are fantastic with choice to suit everyone and each night ther is a new A La Carte menu of the highest quality. All the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. Gardens and swimming pool are stunning and beautifully maintained. Peter Robinson. Belfast.

Room Tip: Definately get a lake view if you can

Recent trip or northern Italy with wife had us stay at wonderful hotels in Florence and Milan. But this hotel in Bellagio on Lake Como should be avoided at all costs. When we arrived we were led out of the main hotel and 50 meters down a hill to what looked like a storage facility converted to a couple extra rooms. Tile floors. Bare necessities. TV didn't work. Cleaning crew did incomplete job. Spent 30 minutes killing spiders. All for 295 Euros per night. We asked to move; they did not accommodate. Neither did they care. We arrived around 8 pm. By the time we got settled and looked for the restaurant we were told it closed at 9 pm (on a Friday night? In Italy? Really?).

Room Tip: Choose a room in a different hotel . . .

I stayed at the Belvedere for three nights as part of a small tour group. My room was in a separate building from the main hotel, which was a little inconvenient, but the room and bath size was much larger than the main hotel rooms. The room was comfortable, but not "luxurious." It had a king-sized bed plus a sleep sofa. It would be great for a couple with a child. The door to the room opens to a patio with a table and chairs and a lovely view of Lake Como. The included breakfast buffet was quite good with many choices.

Room Tip: Rooms in the building closest to the Lake are large enough for three and have large baths. However, because the only door to the room opens to the outside patio, it seems a bit less secure than a room in the main hotel. But it was very quiet and I had no problem with security while there.

We just got back from a two week anniversary trip to Italy which included 5 nights at the Belvedere. We stayed in room 214, which was spacious and had a wonderful view of the lake facing east, south east. The room, with cushy king bed, was nicely decorated, and the bathroom was very large by euro standards with a modern shower inside a jacuzzi tub, and a nice touch, towel heaters. The wrought iron patio was a perfect spot to have a glass of wine at the end of the day. I would highly recommend any room in the "tower" section at our floor level or above. (214, 314, 424 (penthouse) are the numbers I think, but verify) We peeked into other rooms and ours felt a bit bigger because we had an anti chamber that held a nice armoire for clothes and led to the bath and another door that led to the bedroom.
We chose the breakfast option and I recommend it. Its a huge buffet and the food is wonderful. The dining room is sunny and has a great view. We did not eat there for the rest of the stay other than breakfast because the menu was a bit pricey for us at 15 E appetizers and up from there. There are tons of less expensive options down in Bellagio.
We spent time by the pool a couple of days after touring the area and it is nice to have that option, something few other hotels in the area have. The jacuzzi overlooks the lake and is pretty darned perfect.
We liked the location because its close enough to the town center to make the 2 or more x daily walk a nice stroll, and also out of the fray so that its quiet. Fitness alert re Bellagio in general>> get on that Stair machine to get ready for the stairs there! 121 steps on the main stair down to the lake. Have babies? Good luck with that stroller! :) The good news is that shops line the way and the distraction helps on the way up!
The Belvedere has free parking right next to the hotel and it was alot easier to drive to than we were told to be prepared for. If you have done any driving in Europe before, this drive is no big deal, and gorgeous!
There is a reading library, a nice little gym overlooking the lake, and a spa with sauna and treatments, none of which we used but looked appealing.
Last but not least, the staff is fantastic. So friendly, accommodating and seemed genuinely happy to be there and of service. All of them spoke English very well. And that would be my only criticism! HA! I wanted to practice my Italian!

We travelled with Thomson, and were worried that the description in the travel brochure said we would have to carry our own luggage from the ferry, this was not so. Our coach took us across on the ferry & to our Hotel. On our departure a taxi picked us up, took us across on the ferry to our coach.
The hotel was spotlessly clean, bed linen & towels were changed daily, toiletries replaced daily. Staff were both friendly & helpful. It is well worth paying the extra for a lake view - it is stunning.
Although we do like to try new locations, this is one I hope to return to.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a lake view, it is well worth it.
