“Excellent location in a beautiful town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2009

You cannot beat the location of this hotel, it is right in the middle of things - it is on the water, the ferry terminal is right across from the hotel. There are many hotels on this strip - the Florence is steps away, next to that is the Serbollini, there are many hotel options.

Our check-in went smoothly, and we were satisifed with our room, however the decor could definitely use a boost, it is a bit tired for this class of hotel. Our friends who we were travelling with were not happy with their original room, there was a smell (like a sewage type of smell) coming into their room and they had quite a to-do before they were settled in to a room that had no problems(ended up being right next door to ours). It is really unfortunate to have to go through something like that. I think the hotel really needs to think about room renovation. Until they do this, I would hesitate to book again.

Having said that, we still had a good time. Our room had a balcony on the side, but we still had a nice view of the mountains and the lake. It was great to relax on that balcony with a drink, and feed the little bird that we got to know! We had a room on the top floor, we were above the noise of the street, and had a great view from the large terrace just down the hallway. A beautiful place to relax.

The dining was very nice - the dining room has windows facing the lake, and again, one can enjoy the view. We ate out a lot, but we did have a dinner and breakfasts at the hotel. All very good.

The hotel had a pool which is not on site, but can be accessed by a shuttle. Travelling with an 8 year old, I thought we would have used it at least once, but we were so busy travelling around the lovely Lake Como region that this did happen. It is a bit inconvenient to have to organize oneself to get there and back, when there are so many things to do.

Bellagio is a beautiful town, it is wonderful to stroll, and discover the terrific restaurants and shops. Spend some time on the ferries, and stop by the many towns around the lake. We had a wonderful visit in this area, the views are stunning, and there are lots of things to discover.

Stayed here the first 2 nights. We told them we would be arriving around 11pm and that we would probably need something to eat if they could recommend us where. On arrival at just before 11 we were told everywhere was closed for food. We would have appreciated being told when we enquired by email and we could have had something on the way. We eventually found a piazza shop near the marina. We dropped our bags at reception as we were instructed to by staff and went searching for food. On return, around midnight, we met concierge outside hotel where he instructed us where to find our key, needless to say we had to bring up our bags ourselves!
Bad start, but I have to say our room was fabulous. Very clean, spacious and breezy with amazing views. Breakfast was the usual continental, a bit uninspiring to be honest.
Bellagio was a nice town. Our first time going to the lakes. I'm afraid the lakes are not for us. We stayed also in Argegno for a week. Had a hire car and spent too much time driving looking for somewhere to bathe. Moreorless no beaches on lake, ended up going to public swimming pools.
I have to say also that we did not find locals to be very friendly/genuine. It seemed to us that if you were italian you got a much different experience. In the last couple of years, we went to Positano and Capri and there is a world of difference in the welcome.

Friends recommended this hotel to us and everthing they said about was true and then some. It is right on the lake a few steps from the ferry terminal. We had a lovely room overlooking lake Como with the snow covered alps in the background, The hotel has an old fashioned charm and style about it and the staff go out of their way to maintain this. The breakfasts were outstanding and the one dinner we had was excelent and we wished we had eaten all our meals there. By booking early and prepaying we got a great deal. We hope to return one day.

Hotel Du Lac because of its location could easily rest on their laurels......but they don't. The reception staff welcomes you to the hotel and immediately build a rapport with their clients. After they meet you once they always know which key is yours. The hotel and resturant are very clean. they keep everything in great conditon. The location cannot be beat right on the water with the ferry stop right in front of the hotel. We were on the fourth floor facing the ferry and we never heard them come and go. Once you shut your windows the soundproofing is very good. We had the suite small living area and a separate bedroom. If you are going to splurge on a room on your trip this is the place to do it. We enjoyed having the both the side view to the lake and the front view. The bathroom was nicely arranged. the breakfast was a full buffet and in good weather you could sit on the outdoor patio, othervise you enjoyed the view from the inside. We did not see many Italians here but the word has been out on this hotel for so long you will meet the world at your footstep. The views are beautiful and one can easily relax.

Great staff, they are really really friendly. Check in was smooth , helpful and polite. The manager at breakfast was really on top of it, great breakfast, great service.
Only let down is rooms are a bit tired and could do with renovation.
Location is best in town.

The hotel overlooks the lake and the ferry terminal. Staff very very helpful, particularly at Reception. Offered us half board rate for dinner - excellent 3 course meal for Eu20 - which we took up for our first night. After that we ate at different restaurants every night. Staff at the hotel dinner were slightly too attentive, because there were so few diners, but they meant well. Breakfast is a superb and varied buffet. On the ground floor there is a good pavement cafe well frequented.
The room overlooked the lake, so stunning views and worth paying extra for. The room size was adequate with a good size bathroom. Massive comfortable bed. Good size wardbrobes. Furniture is good quality teak fashionable in the sixties. Only two minor niggles: the shower was a bit heath robinson, and one bedside light didn't work. But this is part of the Italian experience, made us laugh, and we would chose this hotel for our next stay without hesitation. (We are mature world travellers).
There is a shuttle to a fitness centre and swimming pool, but we were too busy exploring the lake by public boat over 5 days to get to the centre.
