This restaurant had been recommended to us by good friends and so when we were in Bellagio it was a "must go". When we arrived, we hadn't booked, we were told there were no vacant tables, but if we came back in twenty minutes, there was a chance that we may get a table. So, the advice is, book first!!!!
Luckily, on return, there was a table outside. Obviously this restaurant is extremely popular. One of its advantages is that is is situated well above the tourist area, although I would say that the vast majority of diners were tourists.
The service was great. Our waiter was very friendly, obviously experienced with dealing with non speaking Italian tourists and had an appreciated sense of humour.
The food was superb. Between the four of us we had red meat, fish, other seafood and pasta. Presentation was first-class and complimented the quality of the dishes.
We didn't feel that the menu offered was overly expensive. It was a very pleasant evening, in a town that is absolutely beautiful and in an area that is magnificent.
If in Bellagio, dine at Trattoria San Giacomo.

We had a lovely meal here on the last night of our holiday. The food is traditional home cooked Italian food, simple but full of flavour. The restaurant is very popular and doesn't accept bookings as they are always full so expect to queue. But not to worry; Aperitivo et al - the bar opposite - is owned by the same people. If you get bored of queuing you can leave your name and go for an aperitivo while you wait, they will come get you when your table is ready!

We visited Ballagio with friends in the fall of 2011, and our tour director had been here before, knew the family that has owned and run the restaurant for years, and promised a great meal. We were not dissapointed. The relatively small restaurant opens at 7 PM, and we arrived early to be sure of being seated. We were told this was important, and the place filled up qickly. Some of the family greeted us and made us feel at home. There were 17 in our group, but the wait staff handled it with ease, kept the wine and appetizers flowing while our meals were prepared. Part of the charm is the close seating arrangements, which allows you to chat with others from around the world.

In had a ricotta and spinach raviola, which was very good, and tasted several other fine dishes. I also had a sample of their tiramisu, which was delicious, and a chocolate

This is a classice italian tratoria and I would go back again in a heartbeat

This is 1 of the hottest places to eat in Bellagio because the food is very good, very large choice of wines, and it is owned & operated a long time by the same family. They serve only dinner, it is a very small establishment, they open at 7 pm, and you need to be in line outside by 6:55, or you might not get a table for the evening. The 1st time we wanted to eat here, we arrived at 7:10. Every table was already taken & the wait was over 90 minutes, so we ate elsewhere that night. The next night we were 1st in line at 6:35 pm, but arriving at 6:55 will get you near the end of the line & probably get 1st seating. Even tho we were 1st in line & 1st to be seated wherever we wanted (we took an outdoor table), we were the very LAST table to get waited on. This is something the servers really need to work on. Before they opened at 7, the entire staff was finishing their dinners and/or drinks and saw us waiting in front the entire time. We expected since we were the 1st to be seated, we would've been the 1st to get waited upon, but this did not happen. Everyone else who had been seated in the 5 minutes of rushing all guests to their respective tables already had their water & wines before our server even began to take our order. Was not very happy about this as well as having to ask for flatware to eat my primi piatti because they served the dish before setting the table properly. Menu is limited to a few items in each category (except for wines) because the kitchen is small & not many tables compared to other places in town, but the food is very good. If you really like to patronize trattorias (family-owned & family-run) vs. a ristorante, I would recommend this for the experience. This was our 4th extended trip to Italy in 10 yrs., and I can honestly say the service at this place was really the worst of all the trattorias we've experienced in that country. The next time we're in Bellagio, we won't return here because there were so many other places in town with food just as good or even superior to this place, and the service at every other place in town was far superior to what we experienced here.

This has to be one of the two best restaurants we visited in two weeks first occasion lunch I had a bowl of soup piping hot, fresh vegetables and a serving that would put many a U.K. Restaurant to shame followed by spaghetti with pork Ragu it was terrific only down side was there was a private party that evening so could not return. Next evening back with friends absolutely lovely great atmosphere , service outstanding and food was just how you would imagine in a locals home a really great restaurant and the cost is very reasonable. Don't miss this one it's a must in Bellagio.
Thanks again really enjoyed our meals.
