Bergamo alta, despite its location in the Milan region, is one the best preserved italian gems. The cathedral is fantastic. The feeling of the city is unique, both mediterranean, venetian and mitteleuropean. Go drink a beer in one of the historical and enchanting pubs of the city, here there's an old tradition for beer. Go visit the Unesco site of Crespi d'Adda in the surroundings of the city, a magical little town for workers built up in the late XIX century with great liberty and industrial neo-gothic architecture, great location and stunning vegetation. Also the lower town of Bergamo, despite the sub-urbs are not so nice, deserves a visit for its pretty historical center and the trendy bars and shops.
