“An open air art museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

Bergamo alta, despite its location in the Milan region, is one the best preserved italian gems. The cathedral is fantastic. The feeling of the city is unique, both mediterranean, venetian and mitteleuropean. Go drink a beer in one of the historical and enchanting pubs of the city, here there's an old tradition for beer. Go visit the Unesco site of Crespi d'Adda in the surroundings of the city, a magical little town for workers built up in the late XIX century with great liberty and industrial neo-gothic architecture, great location and stunning vegetation. Also the lower town of Bergamo, despite the sub-urbs are not so nice, deserves a visit for its pretty historical center and the trendy bars and shops.

“Less touristy than most attractive towns of this kind”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

it is small and easy to walk around and although it does cater for tourists it still feels like a local town where people live and work in businesses other than serving tourists. Walk off the main drag and you will see what I mean. Visit it the castle which is almost deserted and see fantastic views across the surrounding valleys and plain.

Be sure to go hgiher and take thes econd funicular to san Virgilio. If you do it wihin an hour of purchase of your first funicular ticket it is free

Sit and relax in the town square and if you have to eat an icecream as you stroll

“wonderful just for a stroll, loved it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

Tranquil setting for a pleasant stroll you go by funicular to first upper level, walk through the pleasant streets stopping for a beer or ice cream, then catch another funicular to the top where there are a couple of nice restaurannts with beautiful views

“Enchanting Old Town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

Take the 1A bus from downtown or take walk and a funiculare (the cheap buss ticket will apply) to the beautiful piazzas and enchanting alleys. The walled La Citta Alta is a genuine medieval pearl!

“A must see.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

Dont miss the upper part of the city. To my opinion its the best place to visit while in Bergamo.Take the old funicular railway that goes up and down the hill. Wear walking shoes as you will have a lot of walking to do on a cobbled road . Its a medieval city with lovely squares full of cafes and restaurants. Try local wine and sweets at one of the many cosy places .
