Stayed here with my brother for an overnight. Checked in late without a reservation, but this was not a problem. The front desk personnel were very nice. The room was very spacious and clean as well as the bathroom. Our room was across from the train tracks, but this did not bother us. We had a balcony that faced a courtyard, but were not able to enjoy it as it was pouring rain! Breakfast was wonderful with a great variety, but we especially loved the Italian breakfast of croissants with nutella! Very delicious!

San Giorgio is a typical small hotel in a medium sized city. Everything works, even if it is a bit dated. Clean rooms, friendly staff and good wifi.

In the booking we asked for 3 twin rooms, and got 3 doubles, and it wasn't possible to change them. But the staff did their best to make our stay pleasant. Breakfast - as usual in Italy - is rubbish, but the location - on a roof terrace - is very nice.

Room Tip: Aks for a room to the side of the hotel - not at the front (road) or at the back (railway) if you li...

Looking for a reasonably priced Hotel for a 5 day Stay in Bergamo, I chose the San Giorgio, which was very central. It was about a 20 minute walk to Bergamo Alto we also took the train to Lake Como, and again the train to Milan. Very glad we decided to stay in Bergamo and not Milan. Feel it was rather expensive for what it was, although breakfast was very good and the Staff very helpful. Once Ryanair Fly to a destination, think the prices of Hotel Rooms do go up. Spent very little time at the Hotel as there is so much to see and do in this area.

This hotel is comfortable, clean and friendly, and walking distance of the Railway Station. I thought it was good value. Bergamo is a lovely town full of interest and good food. Stop here rather than Milan! Lake Como is 20 miles or so, fabulous. You can ski not far north of here too, With Ryanair I did 4 nights so it's a lot cheaper and more flexible than a package. I went midweek and the slopes were empty.

Having been let down by the accommodation we booked in Bergamo, the gentleman at this hotel who we (4 ladies) nicknamed Romeo, let us book in at a very late hour on a very wet night and then organised for us to go to a restaurant so we could eat as we had been travelling all day. He was so helpful and even impressed us by speaking a phrase in Irish!! Even though it is a two star hotel in need of a little TLC, it was spotless and had very comfy pillows. Five star service in a two star hotel. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel is well accessible for travelers by train or Ryanair low-cost airlanes arriving to Orio al Serio airport. Good hub for making short 1-day trips to Milano, Brescia, Verona, etc. Our family used the triple room in the ground floor. I must now confirm that some critical opinions written here previously are true, BUT ... We spent in this small hotel 5 nights without any problems, since there is almost no railway traffic during the night. The described lack of daily light is obviously not a problem for those who want to sleep there ;-) The staff was not brillant in English, but always willing to understand and help. The breakfast was good, although we missed some fruits. Shall we warn you of something in Bergamo, then surely you should avoid the attempt to buy a railway tickets in its railway station, otherwise be prepared for hourly queues, closed ticket desks and only two automated machines. Instead of it use the opportunity to buy tickets in some large stations like Milano-Centrale.

This hotel is way past its sell by daye and urgently needs a makeover.

I certainly wouldn't describe the building as historic and neither was it "near" the railway station. It is located on a very busy and very noisy juntion of two busy roads. If you like to have your windows open be prpared not to get much sleep.

The rooms themselves are very dark and depressing and not helped by the dismal decor. The actual facilities are functional and basic and the bathrooms are certainly not up to expected international standards for a city centre hotel. The Tv was positioned so high up that the only way you could watch it comfortably was by lying fully down on the bed.

The breakfast terrace on the roof is poorly covered and I wouldn't want to eat there in winter, not that it was that tempting any time of the year. The breakfast buffet was very poor and consisted mainly of cake/buscuit type confectiony and the bread was some of the worst paper thin white pap I have ever seen. Considering we went to Italy for the food this was a very bad advert. The elevator (which is the only way to reach the terrace) must be the slowest I have ever come across, and during busy periods made things very difficult, especially as it only held 3 people.

All in all a major disappointment and not a place to be recommended.
