Reservations were made by our B&B owners, and necessary looking at the fully booked restaurant on a Friday night. It starts with a charming ride on the funicolar cable to the top of the hill. Breathtaking views over lower Bergamo from the outside area of the restaurant. We both had the Menu di degustazione, 5-course menu, one had the sea (fish, shrimp) menu and othe other the land (meat) menu. Wine list reads like a short novel, but waiters are happy to help out. Raw tuna on a bed of ricotta and home made casoncelli were outstanding. Make sure you save some room for dessert, the home made tiramisu is heaven. If you are into cigars, then have a go at the excellent collection of Cuban and Dominican top brands.
Just over 100 euros for two 5-course meals, a bottle of very good Pinot Noir and coffee with complimentary fruit and sweets.Only minus, the speed of serving was a bit too fast, we had to indicate a short break after 3rd course to let the food 'sink in'.

Nice detail: free cable ride tickets back to Bergamo Citta Alta, handy when you have run out of cash for the vending machine. Last one leaves just before 1 AM so no need to rush home.

In Summer you can't fail to see this Baretto if you visit San Vigilio. It is the place with the tables outside and the happy people! Food and wine both excellent and, unusually in Italy, it is possible to leave a table here feeling virtuous! We ordered light Pasta dishes, skipped the bread and chose a wonderful fruit plate for dessert. It's possible to just pop in for a glass of wine, a beer or a coffee during off peak times.

At the top of the San Vigilio funicular this restaurant is well worth the effort.

We stopped for a beer while sight-seeing and were also served an array of nibbles including crisps, green and back olives, a variety of crisp bread and breadsticks and a mild cheese dip. So impressed we decided to return for dinner and were advised to reserve a table as they are usually full.

The evening meal was the best we had in Bergamo. Starting with a prosecco which was so good we had a bottle with dinner; served with crisp bread and breadsticks then a warm, light, home-made sausage roll followed by a small cup of chilled tomato soup with mozzarella and fresh basil. Starters of a shrimp, rocket and melon salad and very good Casoncelli. Main courses of sea bass with peaches and pork with porcini were excellent. Desserts of frozen amaretto with chocolate sauce and profiteroles were probably a step too far but we couldn't resist. Coffee was served with gorgeous fresh cherries, melon and small glasses of pistachio cream.

Total 120 euros. Excellent, friendly service.
