“Fabulous location in Bergamo Alta”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

This Hotel is in just the best situation in Bergamo Alta. It is minutes away from the funiculare, and therefore all public transport, and in the other direction, minutes away from the Piazza Vecchia. The rooms were immaculate, spacious, for 3 of us, and the shower in a well fitted-out bathroom, was just lovely and warm, with a huge shower-head. Slippers and dressing gown were a nice touch too.
The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the breakfast very tasty with good quality ham and cheeses, and wonderful breads, croissants, and cakes.

GombitHotel is a nice design hotel in the center of Bergamo Alta. Cappella Colleoni and other major attractions are just a few steps from the hotel. Be aware the also the major bell towers are a few meters from the hotel, and here they do like to play their bells... anyway on Sunday morning they considerately started at 7.30 am.
We had a room on the first floor, not large, but adequate for two persons, with a nice view of an ancient square behind the hotel. Bathroom also small, but functional.
The breakfast buffet had a limited choice, no hot foods and, strangely enough, no muessli. Also lacking was a touch of local foods. However what was there was very good, including pastries from an excellent pasticceria of Piazza Vecchia and tasty hams.
Price very reasonable for Italian standards (Bergamo is outside the circuit of expensive locations like Florence, Rome or venice).

This is a great renovation of a lovely building in a superb little town. The hotel was stylish. Our room was large light filled & comfortable. The house keeping is very good. The location is perfect. Staff were pleasant.

We would have given 5 points except for 2 things - the loo was so high that my feet couldn't touch the floor - weird & the sound proofing between the rooms was not as good as you'd want.

But we would go back & we recommend it highly.

We have spent two night at the Gombit Hotel in Bergamo. The hotel is located in a magnificient building in the heart of the citta alta, extremely convenient for all amenities. Parking is not trivial but that would be expected, less expected is that on Sunday there was no one available to give a hand with the luggage. Our room was on the second floor, distributed over two areas connected by a small corridor where the bathroom is located. The bedroom area is not great, you face the door from the bed which is not exactly cozy. The small sitting room is much nicer. Bathroom is compact and includes a huge basin providing an example of bad design. More a baptism pile than a basin, the water splashes all over including the user and the mirror. Brandless, refillable toiletteries are not a nice touch. A single cotton pad is provided, which I guess is handy is you have a single eye. The towels, however, are excellent. Our shower had a small leak that was reported twice and ignored on both occasions. No small details like a chocolate on the pillow or some welcome delicacy. No information package about the hotel is provided. There is not an iron for guests to borrow, we were kindly offered the laundry services, which is rather odd nowadays.

Overnight the hotel was very noisy. We were woken up on two occasions, including people leaving at 4.30 am amidst the most inconsiderate display of all sort of noise and loud talk. At 7 am sharp we were woken up again by the cleaning service, who happened to have the storage room in front of ours. From 7 am onwards, noise persisted all the time. The lift opens its doors with a beeeep that is heard full power in the night.
Breakfast is good and the breakfast room is a pleasant space. It finishes sharp at 10 am.

Overall, we were not impressed. It is a cold hotel trying to hard to look and feel cool and missing all the little things that make the transition from ordinary to special. The personell we all as cold and soulless as the establishment. Overall, a (noisy) disappointment.

We had high expectations for this hotel and all were all exceeded!
Beautifully renovated hotel & rooms - modern updates yet still keeps the old-Europe feel. We felt like we were immersed in old-world Europe while comfortably enjoying clean modern amenities. We stayed in the 2-story apt with loft, highly recommended!
The location could not be better hidden just around the corner of the town center.
We stayed in Bergamo to go to the F1 race in Monza & avoid the chaos in Milan, and it worked out perfectly. Train station is near by, and by the time we got back to our hotel each night there was plenty to do right at our doorstep.
The breakfast each morning was one of the best hotel-provided breakfasts I've had in Europe. Lots of options, many of them healthy.
Given the opportunity, would come back here in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: The loft room on the 4th/top floor was beautiful. Could be a great option for family of 4.

I arrived to discover that my booking for a 2-night stay was for a week later due to my own mistake and my wife and I were lucky that the hotel had rooms available, and they kindly upgraded us to a better room. The staff were most helpful and attentive, and were also kind enough to make arrangements to forward to us in England several pairs of shoes that we had left behind on departure. The interiors of this hotel are rather more than you would expect from a normal Boutique hotel, they are truly outstanding, in terms of materials, use of space, and artworks. I later discovered that this hotel belongs to the Design Hotels group, and had a similarly excellent experience at their Il Teatro hotel in Porto, Portugal. The City of Bergamo is a delight, both old and new, and the hotel is perfectly located in the old city and it is easy to go to both new and the higher level castle area with the two funicular railways.

I originally booked the Gombit Hotel for 4 nights when my plans changed during my trip, and I decided to visit Bergamo before meeting friends. I ended up staying 5 nights, which is a little long to be in Bergamo Alta, but I loved the hotel and felt I deserved a little luxury before moving on. Having stayed in a different "art hotel" I knew this would be similar, and it was. I was upgraded to a luxury room and enjoyed every minute of it. I did not have any trouble with the a/c, and I thought the breakfasts had more than enough food. It was also very top quality. The bed was very comfortable and the huge bathroom was wonderful with all modern conveniences. I slept very quietly and never heard any noise from other rooms. The one improvement could be to have info in the room to tell about how to work the a/c and tv. There were no English speaking tv channels unless you paid extra for them which I chose not to do. I read and toured and that kept me busy. Great hotel, and I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: I think every room is good.
