“Disappointing Sunday lunch during the first day in Italy”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Esacped the rainy weather in the Old Town to this restaurant which looked to be good and busy with the locals. Most of them were eating pizza, and we did discover later on why that might have been the reason. However, found Risotto Milanese and fresh asparagus on the menu. Risotto was good, but asparagus served with fried eggs and a big chung of pollenta was a great disappointment, qualitywise more like one would expect in a greasy lorry drivers' cafe.
Luckily we did not pay an erath for it, and it was fun to watch the locals.

“The Alta Citta of Bergamo is just a little closer to heaven and so is the food at Da Franco”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

Da Franco, an unobtrusive ristorante and pizzeria en route to the funicolare down to the main city of Bergamo was a find worth writing about! I had their bresaola and then their casoncelli, the pasta typical for the region of Lombardia. The bresaola was outstanding but the casoncelli was totally unanticipated! Superb! Superb! Superb! I tried the house red wine but the waiter insited that I try the Valcalepio wine - also part of the Lombardy experience. This was excellent wine with a tremendous nose! Save room for dessert! Polenta e osei is a is a specialty of Bergamo, consisting of sweet polenta covered with marzipan and decorated with birds of yellow chocolate or marzipan. This basically made our afternoon in Bergamo, alta citta.

“includes vegetarian and cheese main course dishes”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

We visited at lunchtime. This is a popular restaurant with a busy lunchtime trade so go early to get a table. I watched the plates of food going to other tables and all looked appetising. There is a good range of food on offer and of particular interest to me it includes vegetarian main course dishes which made a change from my usual choice of pasta or pizza. The waiters were very friendly. It must be good as this is the first time I have written a review on tripadvisor.

“Great choice of pizzas!”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

A busy little place, all the tables were filled on a Sunday evening. The menu has a selection of pastas, 'main courses' and pizzas. I had the Gorgonzola, nut, ham and rocket pizza which was heavenly.

“The best Ossobucco I ever had”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

It was enough cold below zero and Da Franco was already packed with customers last Thursday's early night hours. The burbon we had before leaving our hotel was starting to fade away in our veins as we walked in Da Franco with nice smells iritating our nostrils.
It is perhaps commonly known but all Italian people are so friendly and this place is a perfect proof for my statement.
We were served in no time starting with bruschiette topped with fresh tomato and olive oil, a superb beef carpaccio and top class salami with ham as entrees.
The main course was a devine ossobucco accompanied with exquisite polenta. Please not that normally I hate polenta as it usually smells strong corn. This latter preparation was adorable though.
For wine we chose a perfect Barbera red! Not a wine to forget!!
The dinner was closed with a lemon ice cream and a cafe dopio (double espresso).
What was also a nice surprise was the price for this dinner that hardly reached a medium priced Milano restaurant.
