We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Mario Lupo in July 2011. Our family of 4 stayed here, including our two children (ages 5 and 6 at the time). Gianmauro was friendly and extremely helpful, from helping us figure out the funicular schedule to providing a clothes iron. Our apartment was a great value-- extremely spacious and we were able to cook for ourselves in the compact but sufficient kitchen. We did not purchase the breakfast offered. The location was very close to the funicular between the Old and "new" Bergamo and right off of the main street of shops. We loved staying in the "Old" city and would love to come back (and would definitely stay here again if we do!).

Room Tip: There are lots of stairs (no elevator). Also, rooms on the higher floors open out onto a balcony (with a railing), so keep that in mind if you have very small kids.

Went to Bergamo for the weekend to catch the Historic Grand Prix (which was worth a page of praise on its own!) with my son and his girlfriend and booked Casa Mario Lupo
direct with the owner for two nights.
Could not be better situated being in the centre of Citta Alta and we had the spotlessly clean top floor apartment in this beautiful building.
Gianmuro could not have been a better host from the initial booking to all his recommendations and the use of his computer and he put on a good breakfast by Italian standards.
To my mind it is certainly a better choice than a hotel for a short break; the only comment is that if you are staying longer and catering for yourselves the kitchen could be slightly better equipped (bigger mugs for us British tea drinkers please Gianmauro!)
Loved it and would certainly return and the same goes for Bergamo but note that many of the attractions and museums are shut on Mondays

We chose this B&B based on Booking.com & Tripadvisor reviews. Located in Bergamo's old town (aka citta alta), a few steps from the tourist office and 50 meters from Piazza Vecchia. The building is an old palace dating back to the XVI century. There were only a handful of rooms which added to the charm. Our mini-apartment was big, including a kitchen and living room. Bed was comfortable. We had access to an indoor patio and rooftop garden. It felt more like staying in someone's apartment rather than a traditional hotel. Our host Gianmauro was very helpful and friendly.

Regarding parking, the hotel provides a resident parking permit, to be used at designated spots throughout the old town, however, spaces are limited. Otherwise there is a paying parking nearby (€2/hr). I recommend unloading your bags then looking for parking.

Breakfast was ok, including toast, cereal, yogurt, and pastries.

Overall very/quality ratio, especially in the citta alta. Highly recommended!

Stayed with my wife for a week in mid March 2012 after having this accommodation recommended by work colleagues who spent a week in December 2011. At less than half the price of an equivalent Citta Alta hotel this is an absolute bargain. Well worthy of the many excellent reviews already posted. Gianmauro is a wonderful host.
Cheap RyanAir flights to Bergamo and absolutely excellent public transport systems (Bus and Rail), there is no need for car hire. For three or four nights, just do Bergamo....there's lots to see and do. Longer stays you can travel to Milan, Venice, The Italian Lakes, up into the mountains. all on public transport.
Marvelous restaurants within a few yards, bars, piazzas,... the lot, a wonderful experience.
