“Jolly good”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

We stayed at the NH Bergamo for two nights, with our daughter, partner and twins aged 10 months. The receptionist was excellent and quickly resolved a problem that had arisen over the cots. The rooms are a good size and everything looks new, and are extremely well furnished and very clean. The bathroom was excellent. Breakfast offered a massive choice, and the waitress was very helpful. Fresh coffee would be nice rather than a machine, but overall it was superb. Very well situated for buses, trains and restaurants and shops. Buy a 3 giorno pass from the airport or railway station, even if you are there for only a day or two, as it gets you on all the buses and funiculars in Bergamo.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are a bit larger, e.g. 212 or 312

Cannot fault this hotel. We stayed in NH Bergamo for 3 nights in May. It is clean comfortable and service is fantastic. Breakfast was great setting us up for the day. The hotel is well located for easy access to train station, bus route etc. I fully recommend this hotel.

I stayed at the NH Bergamo for 3 nights from 26th to the 29th of April and really enjoyed it.
The room was very clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a very short walk from the station (5-10 mins) straight down the main road and a turn left on Via Paleocapa brings you there. The breakfast was fine(american breakast) croissants, cheese, ham
bacon, scrambled egg.I would definitely use this hotel again.
Bergamo is a lovely place and often missed by most budget travellers getting on the coach for Milan instead - the Citta Alta is a fabulous place to see with some excellent restaurants but equally from Bergamo you can visit Lake Como (Varenna) by train which is a beautiful place.I went to Lake Iseo too which you can take the bus from Bergamo to Sarnico then another bus to Iseo if you have time.

We stayed at the NH Bergamo for 5 nights from 31st March to 4th April this year. I chose this hotel from reviews on Trip Advisor and was not disappointed. I travelled with my husband and our two neighbours. The hotel is literally a two minute walk from the train station. When you get to Bergamo airport you jump on the Number 1 bus from stand A (get a ticket from the kiosk) and it takes literally 10 minutes to get to Bergamo train station. Walk straight up from the train station - past the Mercure Hotel and it is on your next left.

The hotel was clean and the beds were exceedingly comfy. The staff were exceedingly polite and friendly and couldn't do enough to help us out. The breakfast was a typical continental style buffet, but there was plenty of choice and you could easily fill up and not need to eat again until dinner time.

There is a handy spa shop next door so you can grab bottles of water etc.

it was brilliantly located as our plan was to do day trips. We went to Lake Como, Lake Garda, Milan and Verona during our stay. Top tip would be that if you do want train tickets get them the night before as sometimes the queues are ridiculous and you could miss your train.

There didn't seem to be many restaurants in the lower city but we did find one called the Ancora on via Quarenghi 12 - it was fantastic I would thoroughly recommend the swordfish with zucchini -it was to die for.

Restaurants however in the Cite Alta (Top Town) are plentiful and we ate in several. It’s about a 20 minute walk from the hotel to the Funicular or you can jump on a bus to Cite Alta also.

Tip for your return to the airport - make sure you get on a No 1 Airport bus - not just a plain number 1.

Stayed at the NH Bergamo for 2 days. The location is very good. Its very close to the train station for a day trip to Milan as well as the bus stop for airport tranfer. Its a very nice walk to the rail service to the Upper city. Early breakfast should be a bit richer, bearing in mind that for the same price you will most likely have better somewhere else.

If you stay in this hotel, you MUST go to the VOX bar/bistrot, its about 50 meters from the hotel on the main road. It offers a free snack buffet to go with your drink. If you fancy a meal, then the set meat menu is a must. Its of great quality.

Stayed in the NH Bergamo last weekend. Fab hotel very nice rooms and bathroom. Have stayed in a few hotels now in Bergamo would rate this one my second favourite after Capello d oro. Receptionists ok not that friendly but that's a minor point. Breakfasts were very nice and plenty of choice. Very reasonably priced too.

My Wife and I have just got back from spending New Year in Bergamo.

I must say it really has been a great little holiday. Due to the efficiency of bus from the airport and a little preplanning, we were drinking a carafe of wine in Ristorante La Ciotola and ordering our dinner inside 50 minutes of landing, having already deposited our bags in the hotel.

The NH Bergamo was really excellent and the staff could not have done more for us really. They have lots of photocopied maps freely available at the front desk and will point out restaurants, attractions etc. They really couldn’t do enough so don’t be afraid to ask them questions. Free Wifi was also available in the lobby

Breakfast was a buffet system and fairly substantial. No complaints here at all.

There is a Spar supermarket next door for bottles of drinks, snacks etc.

If I was going to be super picky and point out one thing that I would like to see improved is the number of English language channels in the room – but then again who on earth goes to somewhere like Bergamo to watch the TV?

On the first day we wandered around the new town and then took the cog railway up to the old town (approx 2 euros pp for a day ticket). We then took the second cog railway up to the very top. There is a restaurant at the top with what seemed like the most stunning views and the prices didn’t seem too expensive either. If only we had been hungry at this time I think it could have been the highlight of our trip. If anyone goes, let me know, I would love to know what it was like.

We also took a day trip to Milan from the train station (10 euros return pp) and enjoyed that as it is only about 45 minutes away. We then jumped on the metro and were at the Duomo in minutes. The city is a lovely place for a walk around and can easily be done from Bergamo.

Take the number 1 (usually marked Airport bus) ATB bus from outside the Airport and it will take you to Bergamo Rail Station in about 10 minutes – 2 euros per person. From here it is only about 3 or 4 minute walk to the hotel. You can use google street view to establish exactly where you need to go, but it only involves taking one real turning. On the way back to the Airport make sure you get the number 1 bus and not the 1C, because this will take you into the old town first of all.

We knew about Bergamo years ago and should have gone sooner. Hope you have as good a time as we did – you wont regret it.
